And huh how is screwed having Wario > Zack, you only loose two points if you are wrong (not likely) Cuz most people who have wario > Zack would have Link > Shadow in round 2 since Shadow doubled wario, and if he doubled wario, how would zack stand a chance of advancing? The people have waited long enough… So I shall give them what they desire! So without further adieu, I give to you… Steve Illumina Speaks! Welcome all my friends and fans, readers of new, and readers of old, to this, the first of the 2008 Contest Satirical Analyses! It is great to be back and to be wanted by the hundreds of you who have IM’d and emailed and snail mailed and shouted from the rooftops for me to return once more. So here I am, and I brought the analyses with me. So lets get started then! Round 1, Division 1 “2 Palette Swaps vs An Unappreciated Hero vs A Girl No One Knows” Steve’s Pick: The Palette Swaps: Zack & Wario Newbie’s Pick: (Everyone’s Favorite!) Wario & Cecil Nobody’s Pick: Jade & Cecil Ceej gets things moving this year with a slightly tough to call first round bout between a group of wannabes in the form of Wario, Cecil, Zack and Jade. If only all of the first rounders were this slightly tough to call, we might have a challenge on our hands. But we would not want to show favoritism would we? Oh wait…there is favoritism in this bracket! More on that when the time comes! Anyways, this battle of the palette swaps would have been even better had Palom or Porom been in there instead of Cecil. “But wait Steve!”, says a young newbie fan, “Isn’t Cecil a palette swap because he goes from dark to light?” To which I reply…”why yes he is!” So we got 3 swaps. As for Jade, well, since she is a nobody from a nobody game that is taking a spot away from a real character with a proven following like Bayou Billy, we will say for the sake of appeasement that she has a swap named Sade. This one all comes down to what swap of the swap is most beloved. The ‘Theory of Swapability’ as I call it. Meaning very simply, the original character that is loved the most: so too shall his/her swap be adored in a 3/5 ratio! Layman’s terms you say? Well…every gamer everywhere knows full well that Zack is a Cloud clone, and we all know how much Cloud is worshipped by the Square Legions, so he gets the victory nod here. And Wario? Well, he is the swap of everyone’s favorite underachieving plumber Mario, the pride of the Nintendites. So he is an easy #2. Poor Cecil…no love for FF4 around here, is there? Well there should be. FF4 is the FF that really put FF on the map for the longtime hardcore gamers like myself. Forget FF7, its 4 that really shined the light first into the genius that is Square. You know it, I know it, and the spoony bard knows it too! Cecil deserves better than a quick elimination on the first day, but alas, it is not meant to be. *sob sob* And as for Jade. Who are you and why are you here? You, my dear sweetie, will be lucky to get 10% of the votes. Off to the loser’s bracket with ya! Well kiddies that’s all the time we have for today! Hogger is a recipe for disaster. My brother, who has devoted 2,000+
life-wasting hours to WoW, had no idea who Hogger was before I told him

I have several level 70s on both factions and had no idea who hogger was till I saw it discussed on this board. --- Conformity and rebellion...both ways are simple-minded--they are only for people who cannot cope with contradiction and ambiguity. |

it's random in the sense that one missed pick changes the next three
rounds. it's not like a one-on-one where each match is in a vacuum. then there's the joke characters where putting a stronger character in the poll can actually help their chances. Well, it just punishes early wrong picks more. No different than say,
having a 1v1 bracket where Cloud and Link face off in round 1 (well
okay it's different but it still costs you the same amount of points is
my point). Be sure about your early picks. Plus, honestly, I think the presence of SFF is being overrated in this bracket. overrated or not, Magus being there with Auron probably ruins his
chances of winning. Leon advancing past Riku probably gives Kirby an
easy win. Sora beating Yoshi probably gives Mewtwo a win despite him

Well, actually, never mind that I think I undershot that by quite a bit. But to me, at least, most of these SFF matches are pretty interesting to call. I like that the X-Stats are basically worthless and you pretty much just have to intuit how much entrants will hurt each other. It's not like a 1v1 bracket where it's like "Mario vs Bowser boring next" And at the same time, I wouldn't say it's all guesswork, either, calling those matches. --- Master Chief's quest to defeat Cloud: Round 1 - Raiden/Kain/Other Dude. watch it play out than it is to try and predict what the right path all

I also can't for the life of me figure out why so many have Dante and
Leon advancing. If you think Dante gets screwed by Leon being there
(and why wouldn't you) vs Kirby (Dante ~= Kirby) then he really

I'm still amazed that Vincent is a favourite to advance to the finals with Link according to the BOP. Maybe it's just me, but X is the only one that could possibly stop Mario.
