Even if that's true, we're not just talking about the FE fanbase -

All the more limiting to the pool! So basically we're talking about the
core fanbase of two B/C-list games here. Again, Ninty SFF is typically
brutal - either way it goes it's only going to pad the lead or stem the

By saying Ike's match was to be trusted stat/percentage wise is saying
that Duke would break 40% on Leon. That's never going to happen. Being the casual favorite in a poll of unrecognizable characters (Kind of...) is going to win you votes. That's the only reason Duke advanced and the EXACT reason why he bombed in round 2. I'd take Vincent over Samus in that situation. I do want to ask what makes the SSB series have such a
what-have-you-done-for-me-lately effect to think Marth's fans from SSBM
that also like SSBB will suddenly give up on Marth here. I don't think anyone's getting what I'm trying to say. I'm just trying to say that, once you get into the Smash fanbase, it's basically level footing, especially if you make it into Brawl. I don't see any inherent advantages for Marth being in Melee. What exactly about him being in both games gives him a boost? He's almost exactly the same in both games. I don't see anyone who didn't really care for him in Melee suddenly really liking him in Brawl. He hasn't changed much. Marth was in Melee. Ike was in Path of Radiance. Tell me which one means more. | More people have played Melee than Brawl. Despite that, Marth's performance last year >>>>>>>>>> Ike's performance last year. Ike was beaten soundly by Duke Nukem. Obviously his Fire Emblem games have done nothing for him, and his Smash strength is going to be sapped by a more popular character |

well. more importantly, people who have only played melee outnumber

Okay, let's do Marth/Lucario then. Why is Lucario considered an instant
win there, according to the BOP (and even to place first)? I should
think Marth would get most of the Brawl fanbase split, but maybe I'm
out of touch: is Lucario really that popular in Smash or did Pokemon

seemed like the latter to me. I was really surprised there, but when I
sat down and thought about it it made sense. well, it made sense that
he could top Marth -- he shouldn't take first place. that should go to

Well, the way I figured it, Marth's fanbase is pretty much only Smash,
while Lucario has Smash + Pokemon. And looking at what Pikachu did last
year, Pokefear leads me to believe that, while Marth is a more popular
Smash character than Lucario, a lot of Smash fans are also going to be
Pokemon fans, and I'm not really up on the more recent Pokemon games,
but I'm assuming there's a reason Lucario was the choice for the "new
Mewtwo" in Brawl in the first place. --- Attention, all yoctograms! (It's x2) DIE! |

I had a big topic a few days ago about this - apparently he's the
'face' of 4th-gen Pokemon (as in, all its advertising), the star of a
new movie, and the "cool" Pokemon a la Mewtwo. I don't know crap about
Pokemon, but isn't Mewtwo just an end-game Pokemon as well? --- xyzzy |

Yeah, in R/B Mewtwo only showed up right near the end, and I don't
remember the game very well but I think he might even have been
