I now present an illogical, bizarre theory with absolutely no support
beyond speculation and random extrapolation. It is not meant to be
taken seriously, but it is kind of interesting, and if it were true, it
would all but guarantee Magus beats Sandbag. That theory is, Magus
suffered SSF last year due to the presence of... Phoenix Wright. Yes, that sounds like it makes no sense. However, I have noticed a trend in my time on GameFAQs since the whole Ace Attorney thing became a big cultish hit on this site. And that trend is that the people who love those games seem to be disproportionately supportive of Chrono Trigger. As for why that would be, my theory is that the AA fanbase is generally a little on the older side (more 18+ than the under 18 crowd), who are more likely to have grown up playing SNES games. In addition to a lot of Wright's followers being fond of CT, a lot are also very fond of Final Fantasy VI, and experience also tells me that fans of FFVI tend to also like CT, and vice versa. So, Magus' fanbase was split, because a chunk of it just loves Phoenix Wright too much to vote against him. And thus, even if you assume a three way, no PW poll would have Magus pick up only half of those votes, that puts him at a much, much more respectable showing against his fodderriffic foes. Again, this theory is completely unsupported. I don't doubt many who voted for Wright would have voted Magus otherwise, but I doubt it's a serious factor. Then again, what do I know? Snake. I don't know why I'm going to defend a theory I've just said is totally unsupported, but if your support is all SNES fans, Mario is more often than not going to eat you alive. Magus/Phoenix SFF is the second worst theory I've heard in this topic lately. Seriously, how do the 2 even compare? Chrono Trigger is as niche as any SNES Final Fantasy, meaning not niche at all. The only issue comes from the fact that newer generations aren't being exposed to it. Which is why since 2004, we've seen Mega Man, Crono and Sonic take a bit of a stumble in relation to Link, and the rest of the higher Nobles. They simply aren't getting (good) games at the same rate as the others. Which is why Mega Man 9 and CTDS I think are going to be huge for them. Sonic I think is beyond helping given the fact that Sega refuses to pull their collective heads out of their asses. But who knows, maybe that Bioware RPG will strike a chord. |

| Saying that for SFF to have effect the characters
have to have an obvious comparison is a little naive I think after
everything we have seen in these contests. I mean why did Leon and
Dante SFF so bad last year? We can't seriously think everyone knows
they are both Capcom characters and yet that was one of the worst cases
of the last contest. They are comparable though... I guess.. if you
reach, so how about Mega Man Mario, how do those two compare? -Mega goes toe to toe with Sonic -Mario throttles Sonic characters with SFF -Mario throttles Mega as well. --- Nominate Rydia for this years Character Battle! |

Hmm...I actually find the Magus/Phoenix SFF theory very interesting. I
wonder what happened in the second round though. Maybe Magus just has a
stronger base. In another matter, I've always suspected that Phoenix
rSFFd Gordon somewhat in their match. All of Gordon's board support

Man, that pic of Cecil is going to be completely unrecognizable to
anyone who didn't play FFIV DS. I guess he's going to be in that
situation no matter what, really. The last name "Harvey" might mess him

Eh, that's the best possible pic for Cecil, and I think it resembles
the original FF4 look well enough. I'd never played FF4 DS and I knew
who it was. Mind you, I first saw the picture in context of "FF4

Eh, that was kind of purposeful as I wanted it to go from darker at the
bottom to white at the top to represent Cecil's whole redemption thing.
If I want to I can change it in a few minutes (I have every step of

Well the Tuesday factor I imagine is still just as existent as ever,
but the contest will be delayed by a couple of days. SBAllen may have

Actually guys, you shouldn't be pinning your hopes on Tuesday factor in
any case. Even if SB doesn't push the start back by a day or two, WoW
servers no longer shut down in the US for Tuesday maintenance; instead
they use "rolling blackouts" so that when something has to go down it's
only a couple servers at a time, and it's done during off-peak hours
and spread out over the whole week. That being said, Arthas should have an excellent chance at advancing out of R1 regardless... Wrath of the Lich King is rumored to be hitting on November 4th, but there's going to be a pre-patch a couple weeks before that that will result in Arthas (in Lich King form) attacking some of the major WoW cities and causing some general havoc in order to increase the expansion's visibility. So any Warcraft player is going to very much have Arthas on their mind the week of his match.
