I'm just saying that in this particular case, I think the FFVII fanbase
can sneak Zack into second place. There are a few key external factors
in his favor, a three-way fanbase split with the god of SFF being the

Well, of course. Not everyone is going to be like that, but there being
a sizable chunk of people who are like that wouldn't be surprising -
and given it's FFVII, it should probably be expected for there to be.
Zack won't get the majority of the fanbase behind him when up against
Link, or anyone really, but he'll always get a decent percentage in a
match with what he's got behind him. And when it comes to fighting for
percentage, I'd sooner trust the FFVII fanbase to pull through than I
would Sonic's in a format like this. --- Kept you waiting, huh? |

put it this way - if you're going on Crisis Core and FF12 alone,
Balthier beats Zack. that's not even a question. more copies sold,
better critical reception, more recognizable. Balthier's also pretty
popular within that fanbase. Zack's got the FF7 pedigree, though, which is a fairly big unknown. --- xyzzy |

Cloud > Edgey in Cloud/Edgeworth/Midna/Axel, IMO. I'd expect edgey
to be around as strong as Phoenix in the polls, as dedicated as the PW
fanbase is (last year's performance doesn't count, IMO: he got SFFed by
Agent J; quirky DS game SFF!). Add in Cloud getting like 65% of the
vote, I don't think it's too much to expect Edgey getting through on

Midgar Zolom also had a massive board rally... Fair enough, but he did ask for a FFVII character who did badly ;) Zack shows up in Advent Children, even if only for a few seconds. I would think many FFVII fans would have seen that. I've seen Advent Children three times and I don't remember this. This doesn't take away from the fact that the people who are voting for him will be the FFVII fanbase. They aren't going to come out in the same droves as they would for Cloud or Vincent, but separating Zack from FFVII is a mistake. When you put him in a division like this, up against characters that this really doesn't care about, the hardcore FFVII fans are going to give him their vote. Well duh, but the issue is that we don't know how much of that FFVII fanbase Zack will attract; the chance of him being remembered from FFVII by the average FFVII fan is, IMO, very low - unless he gets a very good Cloud-like pic, which is really the only reason he'd have a chance against an established character like Shadow, no matter how much Sonic characters suck in this format. --- Official Queen ***** of the Universe! Final thoughts on Zack for now: If you think the FFVII fanbase is
illiterate and colorblind, then Zack is on Cloud's level. Zack's
potential decreases depending on how intelligent you consider the FFVII
fanbase to be. I like to think that since the FAQs on this site require
reading ability, they will at least comprehend that Zack =/= Cloud.
They still might vote for Zack, but banking on them doing so without a
full understanding of who his is (i.e. not Cloud) is to pack them all

I'm browsing the contest site right now, and yeah, Zidane outranked
him but Cecil was 57th and Zidane was 52nd... there was a little more
than 1% separating them. I'm sure Cecil's made up at least 1% based off
the awesome remake. You have to remember that Dream division is overrated to all hell through Kirby/Bowser and Bowser/Snake. Notice how Bowser finished clearly above Vinny/Squall in the stats, and Kirby wasn't too far behind him? God it feels so dirty to be defending Zidane. As for Zack, he could beat Wario in the first round and get out of the division, or lose to Altair in the second round. He's a complete wildcard. I would probably put him at Ryu H or Scorpion levels, which is more than enough to take second in the division. The only question is whether or not he splits enough with Cecil to give Wario first in that match. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

Another interesting possibility I just saw is in Auron's fourpack. That match takes place on Oct. 15, about 25 days before GeoW2 comes out and probably right in the middle of the huge advertising blitz. Can Marcus take down Sub-Zero, who no longer has a new game on the day of his match to carry him over his opponents? If so, how much impact will Marcus have in the second round which will be 5 days before the release? Fenix barely beat Kefka and Revolver last year, so I'd rather not say
Gears 2 hype has him ousting Sub-Zero...especially since hype for MK VS

smitelf just brought up something very, very enightening. is there a reason Zack would be too far away from Balthier? he's in a bigger game, obviously.. on a bigger system.. and I'd honestly easily take Cecil > Balthier. I'm considering that now. I wouldn't think the three of them would be too far from each other,
but I assume Zack > Balthier > Cecil. At least Zack's got a movie
and two different games to his name, one of which is FF7 (no matter how
tiny a role). He's also got the newest release of the three, and we've
seen the other two flop big-time before. I'll give Zack the benefit of

Hey guys, remember when we thought Liquid Snake and Naked Snake (and
Solidus Snake if he ever made it into a contest) would be on par with
Solid Snake because they come from the same series and have Snake in
their names? Who remembers Big Boss nearly beating Mario in the second
round last year, since he's just Solid Snake with an eye-patch? How
about when we thought Shadow would equal Sonic because they're both
hedgehogs, but different colors? You should, because those are absolutely best case situations for Zack, and I RRREEEAAALLLLLLYYY don't think being as empty as he is that it'll allow him to be anywhere close. If Zack is above the fodder line it's most likely because he looks like
Cloud and has the Buster Sword. Crisis Core, while an FVII game, is
still only a PSP game, not exactly the most popular thing around these
parts. Which pretty much leaves Zack with FFVII, which is absolutely
worthless for him. Appearance to Cloud aside, Zack would have a lot of
ground to make up on people like even Elena and Hojo, who actually
*appear* in the game in more than a little flashback. Look at Shadow. While nothing more than a Black Sonic appearance wise, he still isn't anywhere close to Sonic's level anymore. Of course, Zack wouldn't have to be anywhere near Cloud's level to be fairly popular, but Shadow has much more going on for himself in his respective games. --- You need to meet someone at a garden, or a movie or something. Here's some fun: if Sonic:Amy (using 2k6) = Cloud:Zack (using
2k5)...that puts Zack just a little over Diablo-2k5. One should keep in
mind Sonic appeared stronger in 2k6 AND Solid seemingly under-performed
against Samus in 2k6, so let's bring down Zack a little -- say, Tommy
Vercetti-2k5... ...that would probably be enough to beat Wario, but not with Cecil in the poll. In the next round is when he'd be against Shadow. Do you think Sonic:Amy = Cloud:Zack is fair, or does Zack deserve more credit? I don't trust Vergil's popularity since we saw how well everybody
(barring Liquid) did against Sephiroth in the Villain Contest, and I
don't trust Nero's despite DMC4 being multi-platform and leading the
series because I heard it sold terribly. Nero might be stronger, but

Nero is a lock to get out of the first round. He looks just like Dante,

I think for the Cloud match, only midna and axel will compete for
second place. Axel is a bit of a wildcard imo. He might be total
fodder, or he might be a bit above the fodder line and beat out midna

I'm not sure that I trust Tidus to beat DK, though <_< There are so many jobbers in that division. I'm really shaky about Tidus being able to outlast DK as well. If it was someone like Auron, or even Yuna, I wouldn't worry.
