We get crap like Nightmare again, Companion Cube, the dog from Duck Hunt, 30 Brawl characters, more stupid useless ****ing POS Fails characters and whoever the hell Hogger is. What hivemind? There were like two dozen different joke rallies, and
about half of them happened to work. Many of these joke characters
aren't even Board 8 creations. I didn't hear a thing about The Dog,

Protoman wouldn't be strong, but I'd take him over all the guys I
listed, and at least half of the current bracket. Why do we get to see
Raiden flop again instead of Proto Man kicking ass? Why do we need 10 joke characters nominated by people with no sense of humour and assburgers syndrome? The joke has been done. Am I the first to say Sandbag might have a chance at winning the whole
thing? Heck, I think it could deal with L-Block quite easily. The only
worry is that Sandbag has to face both TWO mighty opponents the second:
Sonic and Auron. That would mess up its momentum. Oh, and I find it amusing that L-Block is going to have joke-vote competition in The Dog. Come on, Meta Knight! Pull through! ...though I doubt that'll happen. It would be hilarious if L-Block did manage to lose. It's probably more likely L-Blocks get first place, though (I've got Ryu > L-Block, though). Finally, can Nana pull through against Tifa? Remember that Sephiroth more than tripled Vincent. I'm totally pleased about: -THREE FF4 characters...they'll all bust, but who cares? -Ramza returns! -FINALLY a Xenogears character! -lots of new blood in general -Mega Man X...whoa. -Seifer not making it. Okay, just kidding, but I still wanted to point out it's funny that Seifer still hasn't made a contest. -Miles Edgeworth returns. >_> I've yet to really look deep into the bracket (heck, I haven't predicted the later rounds yet...). There's a ton of characters I haven't heard of here...I'd imagine most are bad fodder. Who will be decent, though? NIko and Altair probably...anyone else of note? Oh, yeah, and Zak. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Because the Cube is crap. Portal was a great game, but do we really
need to see the Cube get its ass kicked because people don't understand

I can't believe the number of people who have L going out first round.
It's like begging to be burned again. I mean honestly, even if you
think Meta has a better chance than L, wouldn't you go with L for the
long term pointage anyway? It's gonna be tough deciding where L goes out, and I don't think it'll be as strong as last year, but I don't see how it goes from beating Link to losing to the likes of Meta Knight. --- can you dig it? |

DIVISION 2 - Liquid Snake vs. Luigi vs. Roxas vs. Sho Once again, we have a lone Nintendo dog in the pack, and this time, he's well tested, well proven, and strong. Luigi will easily take first place. Roxas could possibly scare Liquid for the second spot, but there's an old contest mantra that reads "When in doubt, go with Metal Gear." and that's what I plan to do. Plus, that entire series seems to be riding high right now. My pick: Luigi > Liquid Snake - Bowser vs. Deckard Cain vs. Geno vs. Phoenix Wright While Bowser clearly is not at home in 4way matches, it'll be awfully hard for him to **** this up. Deckard is an unknown, Geno is weak, and Phoenix is niche. Here's to hoping our boy Mr. Wright looks good again (I'm such a bandwagoner). My pick: Bowser > Phoenix - Fei Wong Fong vs. Knuckles vs. Mario vs. Zelda Zack and Altair make the second round while Zelda or Knuckles don't. No one said these brackets are kind and fair, but man, this one stings. I question just how much SFF exists between Mario and Zelda. We've never seen the plucky plumber take on either Zelda or Ganondorf; actually, we've rarely seen characters from the two storied series battle. Regardless, it will likely be enough to let Knuckles slip through. Shame of a match that makes me regret all this fodder. My pick: Mario > Knuckles - Lloyd Irving vs. Mudkip vs. Tom Nook vs. Mega Man X Oh, look at this! Board 8's getting something we've been after for years! I hardly see it as a big deal (he'll be about as strong as Mega Man, maybe bit stronger), but more power to the guys who are excited about this. X will rip this match apart, and Mudkip will draw too much Pokemon and outside support for Lloyd to handle. If this match takes place in November, TOM ****ING NOOK kills all three. My pick: X > Mudkip My vote: TOM ****ING NOOK --- Yoblazer: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

How much of an advantage does the banner give FFVII characters? The
bracket making period is nearly a month, and the banner should attract

I've only looked closely at the first match so far, but from what I'm
reading in this topic and others, I think Cecil is being
underestimated. Zack will be fodder - he was in FFVII for five seconds

Crisis Core is FFVII and has sold over half a million in the US
according to VGChartz. That's enough for me, especially when we've all

DIVISION 3 - Crash Bandicoot vs. Nightmare vs. Raz vs. Samus Aran Nightmare proved himself emphatically last year, so he needs not worry about the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Other Guy. Samus kills and I smile and make fun of the people who dislike Samus. My pick: Samus > Nightmare - Frog vs. Ganondorf vs. KOS-MOS vs. Neku The top half of this bracket seems largely favorable to the big N, as yet another Nintendo character gets yet another match all to himself. This time, Ganondorf will have center stage and leave Frog and KOS-MOS to fight for scraps. I have no idea what the stats indicate, and for all I know, Kossy could make a run for it. However, recall that contest mantra I wrote about Metal Gear in Liquid's match. Multiply that by three and square the product. That's what you do for Frog. If Frog is within striking distance, he WILL win. If you have doubts, you go with Frog. The beautiful bastard has done it thrice before, and lord knows he'll do it again if given half the chance. Board 8 will make sure of that. However, I very much doubt he'd have to dip into his bag of tricks to get through this match. The next round... gweeheehee. My pick: Ganomdrof > Frog - Falco Lombardi vs. GlaDOS vs. Vincent Valentine vs. Wander Don't try me! My pick: Vincent > Falco - Balthier it's a Bonanza vs. Big Daddy vs. Scorpion vs. Gordon Freeman Before examining old results, the gut told me there'd be enough of a pseudo-fanbase overlap between Scorpion and Gordy to allow that failure, Balthier, to sneak in. However, after a hiccup against Duke, Gordon held on very well against Sub-Zero last year, so I'm expecting a similar performance. Plus, I'm never trusting Balthier again. My pick: Scorpion > Gordon Freeman --- Yoblazer: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Wow, this bracket is absolutely ridiculous. The first big issue that comes to mind is what will the split of Mega Man X and Mega Man do? I can't see any positive effects coming out of it. Is there any way both get to be as strong as each other? Wii_TuRtLe (#128) Even if we assume Cecil has not improved at all since '05 (and having a "new" game out last month ought to perk him up a bit), I'm not confident that Zack will be stronger. It's really a matter of which is crappier fodder, and I don't see any clear answer. I see why Zack is the safer pick; he has a better "best case" performance than Cecil (if FFVII does give him a good boost). Also, Zack could just as easily get a crappy FFVII picture of himself,
so don't bet on the pic factor - however, Zack definitely has more good

One missed opportunity was a match with both guys though, and a 4th man who could have slipped through. Think of the possibilities. Bracket finished. I went on a mini-Crono bandwagon and took Samus > Crono in the quarters and then Link > Crono in the semis (thanks, SFF). CTDS hype go! I want Crono's revenge so badly. >_> I also took Snake > Cloud in the semis, but Link > Cloud in the final. I wanted so much to make the final Link > Snake, but I'm not that insane. --- Attention, all yoctograms! (It's x2) DIE! |
