Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. oh, and for the record, I'm going to be out of the country towards the
end of the contest. I'll try getting my writeups in, but if there's
some matches where I can't see the winners a couple days in advance, I

For some reason I just can't help but want to put L-Block going the
distance again. But it seems like 80% of you believe the joke is over
and he's going straight to proverbial contest hell. I'm quite

GTAIV has faded from the public eye much faster than VC or SA did. Carl Johnson already bombed once before, and Vercetti had one
decent contest performance in a year where some bracket makers put him
in the finals. I expect nothing more than last place from Niko. The

I really want to see how the rest of the internet responds to the

Remember when people were saying "LOL Brawl's presence is overrated it
won't amount to jack" and now nearly a fourth of the bracket is in

well now that i look at the old match, 10% against someone that would
SFF you and two big leagues is pretty tough. I doubt Nana would have

By the way, that particular match is already shaping up to be one of my
favorites of round one. There's tons to debate, the characters are
legit, and we don't have to worry about basing our predictions on the
number of voters whom we think will have a 12-year-old's sense of humor

360 is on the rise isn't it? Doesn't that mean anything? no, because PS2 'was the thing' when VC came out. i dont think the consoles matter in this situation. I feel a lot safer about Nana now don't forget that Link and Mario were also in that match. it is an impressive performance indeed. it's a shame we didnt see how Tifa would hold up last year. it just depends on how much you think Sephiroth and Tifa would split..... and if Tifa is another 'female' that will fall like Aeris and Zelda (which i doubt). --- *is Dranze* Explicit Contest is my lord. |

I feel a lot safer about Nana now Considering that Vincent was also up against the likes of Link and Mario while Tifa has to deal with Ratchet and an Ice Climber, Tifa should take second convincingly. --- Kept you waiting, huh? |

Tifa will look awful, but she should still make it through. I'd be more
worried about Ratchet sneaking away with it than Nana. Ratchet didn't

It's best to look at the match proportionally. Seph roughly tripled
Vincent in that poll with Mario and Link in it. Even assuming a
