Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 551

Here are the females from the female bracket I would've taken Kerrigan over:

Jade
Alyx Vance

Anyone else, I'd have to think about it.

Argh, why are we even talking about Kerrigan?

This topic is now about Edgeworth.

Seriously, I was just looking at the 2007 contest earlier today, and I noticed that Edgeworth got around 10% against Link, and Phoenix Wright got around 11% against Mario. They were probably both SFF'd. I wonder if Edgey isn't as pathetic as I originally thought.

Considering they're Nintendo exclusive characters, it's not that far out there. It's the only reason I can figure why Phoenix bombed in round two.

that brings up something else i've always wondered: where could they both be in the stats? i never pictured edgeworth making a contest but.. perhaps he's not a complete joke after all.

Honestly....I'd take both over like...Lloyd. They're at best just above the fodder line.

Additionally, Edgeworth is one of the few characters to ever be in a contest I would safely take Phoenix with 75% over.

Ehh, I don't think Phoenix would triple Edgey. I think it might be relatively close, but Nick would win.

phoenix vs Miles i would expect the percentages to be roughly the same as cloud vs sephiroth, with the votals being well maybe about the same as cloud's total.

The main character could be Vyse level, I suppose...but probably not, since he's not given a name in-game, so most people wouldn't have a clue who "Minato Arisato" is.

heh. maybe he is finally a mid-carder?

well if he's got a hardcore fanbase he should get a floor on his number of votes, the game seems pretty popular so a good pic and i would be a little unsure vs say Lloyd.
Also with FES coming to europe he might get an extra 500 votes.

I honestly think europe can be the deciding factor in some close matches, they can give the extra 1000 votes needed for a character to pull through.

I feel Phoenix is in the same boat as Guybrush. Both awesome characters if you play the games they are in but their fanbase is dedicated and not widepread. I would like to see a matchup between those two actually.

Look at this sig hard enough and you will find the combination to the lock.

Phoenix Wright and Guybrush have the same qualities but i think Phoenix being in a Nintendo system helps him out.

that and i could never see Guybrush being that close to Bomberman or even above Crash.

I would probably peg Phoenix at around 17.00 on BL. Right on the line between fodder and high end fodder. He didn't look that bad in 2006, but keep in mind that:

A) Gordon most likely overperformed by quite a bit on Sora due to finally winning a match.
B) If there was ever a case for rSFF I would suggest Gordon Vs. Phoenix. I imagine that a large amount of Gordon's traditional joke voters jumped ship to Phoenix instead.

Not to mention that the X-Stats for that year are based off of a Samus who's at 45 on BL.

Also, Phoenix made the second round this past year, but he was most likely greatly helped by the format more than anything.

The format was the only reason why I took Phoenix to beat Bomberman. One-on-one, there's little question that Bomberman wins.

Well then who's on first? Yes. I mean the guy's name. Who. The guy on 1st. Who. The 1st baseman. Who. Who is on first! That's his name. That's who's name? Yes.

Now that I'm in the right topic, I'll try this question-style again before I go to get headshots...but who is the best one-on-one opponent for each of the following?

Charizard -

L-Block -

Bowser -

Seifer -

Link -

Charizard -Mewtwo

L-Block - CATS(if one on one i genuinely think L-block won't have nearly enough momentum to beat the guy)

Bowser - Sora

Seifer - Lara Croft

Link - Remake Cloud

Charizard - Fox McCloud

L-Block - uh.. i have no idea where it'd be in a one on one format. say a solid mic-carder like.. Sub-Zero?

Bowser - Dante or Zelda

Seifer - Kefka

Link - Remake Cloud

Guybrush is pretty close to the most pathetic sack of crap we've ever seen in these contests. I honestly wouldn't take him to beat anybody, unless the poll gets 20,000 votes tops.

Charizard - Alucard would be great. Mewtwo would be fun, too, and Fox is plenty interesting.

L-Block - Link, first round.

Bowser - Yoshi in a rematch? If not, then Tifa might work.

Seifer - Ike.

Link - L-Block...or Tingle.

I'm not positive Guybrush would beat Tanner. I seriously don't think he can manage 20,000 votes against ANYONE.

Well, unless he's a bracket favorite or something.

Haha, talking about standing a chance, I actually thought Madden '09 would do well today given the "caliber" of its competition and GameFAQs seeming a bit more casual to me lately...but man, it is getting embarrassed by the likes of Mercenaries 2 and being worse than quadded by None of the above. At least it's not From The Abyss right now...holy hell.

MarioSuperstar | Posted 7/31/2008 5:50:06 PM | message detail
However, Sora has nothing of the sort he can benefit from. It would be a huge shock if he were to reach the Sweet Sixteen. Jill would have to have a HUGE dropoff and Hayabusa be barely strong enough to beat her, or he would've had to suffer MASSIVE SFF against Aeris last summer. Neither are very likely.

man i couldn't help but post this. just so hilarious.

Hmm. Just finished MGS4, and I have to say, Snake probably won't be gaining that big of a boost from it. He's far less cool than he was in any of the other MGS games, and he has hardly any dialogue. Of course, he'll still get some sort of boost, due to how popular the game is, but it could have been a lot bigger, and his role in Brawl really eclipses it..

On the other hand, I can see Ocelot and especially Raiden getting huge boosts from the game. Raiden's MGS4 role is absolutely incredible, so I think he'll get a bigger one, especially since Ocelot's already been in every MGS game so far and Raiden's only had one. And if Otacon ever gets into a contest, I can see him becoming the strongest NPC ever (take that Kairi!!). I don't think the game will do too much for Liquid though...at least, it didn't for me.

Snake's role in MGS4 is great. He's just as cool as he's always been - and he's the complete star of the show, with a couple of rare moments throughout the game.

Mac Arrowny | Posted 7/31/2008 8:11:39 PM | message detail
I don't know if he's really the star - he did have far less dialogue than the heroes of the previous three games. Most of the cutscenes just have other people talking and Snake occasionally grunting. At times I think that Otacon had more dialogue than Snake did.

And Harrich, traditionally there's been a distinction between NPCs and villains. Also, Ergheiz. :p

Snake is definitely the star of MGS4. Sure, there are plenty of scenes where Snake is mostly listening to someone reveal some major plot point to him, but he still has plenty of dialogue himself.

He has plenty of awesome moments, although most of which don't occur until Act 3 on, but they're awesome.

You make it sound like Snake rarely spoke, which just isn't true. Other characters may have been more chatty, but that doesn't make them any more important or cooler. Raiden should get a good boost for obvious reasons - he has a lot more ground to make up with people than Snake does - and Ocelot, too. But Snake's potential boost isn't going to be lessened because of 'lack of dialogue.'

he's been in pretty much 3 of the major MGS games, right? though i don't think he has that much appeal... i certainly wouldn't take him over kairi.

I like Otacon a lot more than most NPCs, and I don't relate to Otacon like a lot of Japanese-fans can. I'd rather see Colonel, but Otacon would be cool...

...that said, if post-MGS3 Ocelot and Raiden would have struggled with Kairi (and they likely would have if they were to even win), Otacon isn't going to break it.
