...for kicks, where would you rank Grey Fox if he made a contest at
this point? He was well-liked in MGS1, exposed to the SSBB-community as
an Assist Trophy, and I think
he'll be in MGS4 too (confirm or reject this HM!). I think it was
therealmnm who was preaching he would have decent strength years ago,

Nah. Fox isn't in MGS4 -- spoilers spoilers he died at the end of MGS1
spoilers spoilers -- but he's no doubt a popular character. I don't
think he could take Liquid or Ocelot, but he should be able to beat any
other 'bosses' from the series. I know I'd take him over the others. As for the Assist Trophy status, I'm not sure how much that would actually help him, but I guess it can't hurt. And although it may not be a direct result of Brawl, I have noticed that there's been an influx of new people playing the Metal Gear games, especially around here. Mantis/Wolf/ocelot/Boss/Vamp are the ones I'd pick ahead of Gray Fox,but Imagine the original Fox in full MGS4 style graphics. So far the most we've seen is Null/Ninja,he needs a real boost i say. --- For some reason I never know what to put here. |

Personally I'd take the all the numbers with a pinch of salt. I reckon
people that play PS1 & 2 games on their PS2 are voting PS3 because
it's the closest option. People that emulate are being thrown into that
number as well. That's probably only a major part of the DS and PS3 numbers though. Emulation of GC and Xbox isn't exactly big yet. PC probably has a few votes because of non-DOS games as well. I can't believe 10% of GFAQs plays DOS games on a regular basis. Then of course throw in the "I don't play Xbox games but I like my 360" votes. Obviously the same will apply to the other formats as well. --- So no. Not really. |

I'd take Grey Fox over two Vamps, personally...if that was possible or mattered. I don't dislike Vamp like lots of people, but come on -- that's Grey Fox's match. MGS1 > MGS2, GF > Vamp in both coolness and importance to the story-line, and SSBB can only help GF if it does anything at all to him. Grey Fox should be the third most popular character in the series after

Other than the Snakes and Ocelot, I can't imagine anyone else in the
series being stronger than Gray Fox, as long as he gets the ninja

Well, we know that SB is bringing back Ask GameFAQs with his next
update and he mentions some other new features will come...perhaps they
are contest-related, though that's speculation at this point and who

| Mega Man has no reason to be on the rise, other
than an odd demographic change (which COULD happen. It's
unpredictable). The only thing he can really hope for is to remain
static. After watching Squall hang in there with Sonic in the contest last year and watching Vincent knock out Crono, I'd like to see Vinny or Squall take on the Blue Bomber. It'd be close. --- "I'm no hero...Never was. I'm just an old killer...hired to do some wet work." |

I'm sure next Contest we see both Crono and MM lose to non-NNers's if
they're given the chance. They just aren't got holding strength and
will probably slip to high Midcarders if the contests last long enough. --- Sad but true. |

I haven't been around for the last 9 months. I honestly don't care
about stats or the Noble Nine or whatever at the moment. I just don't
deem it legitimate until Crono or Mega Man loses a one on one battle.
It's like saying we would consider Clinkeroth broken because Snake beat
Sephy during the Battle Royale. That's ridiculous because we know Snake
doesn't stand a chance one on one. Sure, there don't seem to be any
problems with Vinny beating Crono like Snake beating Sephy with Cloud
involved has, but you never know. (Yes, I know Clinkeroth was broken before it ever became official because of Cloud/Mario, but bear with me). --- "I'm no hero...Never was. I'm just an old killer...hired to do some wet work." |

It doesn't matter what would happen. The
fact is, nobody from the noble nine has been beaten by someone outside
it in a 1v1 match yet. With your logic, you could argue the noble nine

On the topic of the Noble Nine, does anyone else sense a significant
Samus boost from Brawl? I mean, Samus did beat Sonic back in 2k2 on
basically Melee and Super Metroid, and Brawl hype
turned Snake from the clear bottom of the barrel Noble Nine into at

Maybe I'm forgetting them, but the only excuse I remember hearing over and over again was "4-way battles don't count" and sometimes "4-way battles don't count if the person in first is still a Noble Nine member". IIRC this was brought up long before Vincent outranked Crono so it wasn't just an excuse people made up after Crono failed to take second. Snake is going to be a ****ing beast next character contest. Not only

I don't know, I don't really see how Brawl can boost him anymore than
it already has boosted him. He already had the hype, and he's
definitely still going to be a powerhouse considering how big MGS4 is,
but I'd still take Samus over him. I don't see how he can boost any

Honestly, I think Ike will get quite a boost from Brawl. Whenever I
play Free for All Brawls on Wi-Fi, Ike is easily the most used

Noble Nine/Ulti: it's not broken because they haven't lost what they
became famous for. As someone else who predicted Vincent > Crono and
would probably take Vincent > Crono and Mega Man for one-on-one
matches this year, neither Crono nor Mega Man lost the same kind of
match the Noble Nine was known to win. Save going crazy about how it's
broken until probably afew months from now...THEN brag about it. Squall: for some reason, I'm oddly excited to see him in a one-on-one match again. He would REALLY have me interested if he didn't lose to Sonic after Sora dropped from the poll, but hey...what-evs. Still a fun prospect. I'd still take Vincent over him, but a Crono/Squall match would be great. PS3/MGS4: the PS3's stock will rise a lot, and MGS4 will be owned by most of them here eventually...but I'm curious to see how soon and if it's enough. Assuming MGS4 is well-received, I think I'd have to give Solid the edge against Samus now, but I still don't care for the idea that Solid > Mario this year (despite its truth). Ike: Ike, off of purely website-hype and FE:PoR, lost to both Duke Nukem and Gordon Freeman while they were in the same poll last year (and, to exaggerate it a bit more, still had another PC-character in as well). That said, given how often people use him in SSBB and FE:RD, I would take Ike to beat Duke or Gordon with 55% or more. Well, if you put Ike in the same fourpack this year, I'd take him to
win it with ease now. As far as one-on-one matches go...That's a bit
tough. I haven't looked at the stats in a while. Well, the measuring stick around here seems to always be whether the guy can beat Ness or Kefka, and I say Ike can. --- "I'm no hero...Never was. I'm just an old killer...hired to do some wet work." |

And before I take Snake over Samus, I want to see how well MGS4 sells.
And even if every single person who said they are going to buy a PS3
for MGS4 does so before the contest, that's still only around a third
of the site who can play the game. Snake's role in Brawl is one of the

Snake over Samus isn't even a match that I need to think about. She
beat him with 53% two years ago. Just by being as good as he is in
Brawl can swing that deficit and then some by itself. No need to even

Well, I'm still hesitant because everything
in the 2006 contest pointed to Snake beating Samus, and he still lost
fairly easily. I mean, the match is his for the taking, but...I'm just
cautious. I'd love to see the rematch and like to see him take on

The way I see it anything he might have lost to Samus back then by only
being in a trailer would be remedied now thanks to people getting
hands-on time with him. It doesn't hurt that when you hear discussions
about who the best Brawl character is Snake's name pops up. I dunno,
it's hard for me to see Snake losing to Samus. Mario's a bit different...there's a lot to argue for him winning there. That's where MGS4 would have to come into play. --- 6.12.2008 -- Sneak Out |
