It's going to have to destroy Bioshock and Mass Effect tomorrow to make me feel like it's in the game for the final-GotY. I think it's a safe assumption that it won't, but I don't think it needs to in order to compete with SMG in the final GotY poll. Bioshock and Mass Effect appeal to entirely different crowds -- maybe not so much Bioshock, but it's not exactly like Halo in any way, save for being a FPS -- and because of that Halo shouldn't be SFFing everything like Mario does against everything Nintendo. Halo 3 should do well tomorrow, but I'd doubt it gets 50% if only because there's actual competition in the 360 poll. --- "Wake me when you need me." -- 117 |

Bioshock is closer to Halo than Metroid Prime is to Galaxy. the only
difference is that company umbrella that all Nintendo fans seem to live

It is closer than Metroid to Mario, but like you mentioned, the whole company thing messes that up. But just to clarify, Bioshock and Halo are similar in that they're First Person Shooters, but the appeal of each is rather different. They're not as comparable as, say, Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3. You know, I'm not entirely convinced that Halo 3 murders its
competition like people are expecting. The game has been almost
universally underwhelming, both to critics and gamers alike. Sure it's
popular as hell, but I see nobody talking about it like its their
unquestioned favorite game of the year this year. Sure it probably will
win its poll, but I don't think Halo 3 will get the full support in the

| I agree. Bioshock (assuming it's even in the 360
poll versus the multiplatform one), despite sharing the FPS genre, has
secured a niche that Halo won't be able to take complete advantage of,
and Mass Effect is a different type of game altogether. I think that when people haven't played any of the games in a poll enough to make an informed decision, they'll obviously often go for the big name, but they may also go for the option that's garnered the most praise. I think it's more to do with there being good competition for Halo as opposed to it being underwhelming (it is my unquestioned game of the year, anyway -- by a good bit too). Of course, I would still expect Halo 3 to handily win the 360 poll, and if it doesn't beat Mario Galaxy, which honestly wouldn't be that surprising all things considered, it'll get close enough. yeah, 2001 doesn't count. Halo wasn't even a franchise yet, nothing like it is now. I'd pick Mario Galaxy over any of those 2004 titles with ease. remember how Mario just walked all over Warcraft in that series contest? That multipoll might be an absolute mess if it gets Bioshock along with Call of Duty 4 and The Orange Box (and
Guitar Hero III, jeeze). Halo would definitely go relatively unscathed

| I think the more options you add to a poll, the
better that Halo will end up doing. Anticipation polls might be a bit
different, but it's gone up against some pretty beastly competition and
beat them all when it was there. If you split everything up across all
those options, I'd figure it'd be bound to get the top spot. Maybe not,

So Bioshock's on the multiplatform poll after all. Along with AC, GHIII, Orange Box, CoD4, RB... yeah, it's gonna be fun. Eh, 50-32 isn't nearly as much a "beating" as I would expect. Mass
Effect is doing a lot better than I thought it would given how much
newer and how much less fanfare it received upon its release
(Assassin's Creed completely took the spotlight upon their releases).
Also, Crackdown is failing horribly. On a side note, I wonder if The Darkness will make the multipoll. The poll will already be stacked with The Orange Box, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, and Guitar Hero III, but it deserves to be in there too. | Mass Effect's got the right mix to do well here --
it's well received, sold really well and is something the GameFAQs
demographic should enjoy. But I'd expect Halo to do a lot better during
the day than it is right now; it should jump a bit by the end. That multiplatform poll will be good to see. GH3 probably squeaks by Bioshock if I had to guess. --- "Wake me when you need me." -- 117 |

Hey, look what not having Bioshock does. Both Halo 3 and Mass Effect
look pretty good. Maybe Bomberman in 3rd place will make him feel
better after losing to Phoenix Wright. The multiplatform poll is going to be ridiculously stacked now. We've never had a multiplatform game make the final vote (KotOR counted as an XBox game and San Andreas came out on the XBox a year late). I guess it depends on if there's 3 or 4 games in the final poll this year - Halo 3 and Galaxy are obviously locks, and God of War II is a good bet, but I'd be surprised if the multi poll winner lost to Phantom Hourglass. --- Mustache...and green... www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/Brawl.jpg |

Holy macaroni...Halo 3, come on! Bioshock's not even in the poll... ...and speaking of which, oh man, that multi-platform poll is going to be as strong as we've ever seen it. I think I'll take Bioshock just over GH3 -- I have felt like from most angles that BS had ME's number, but now ME is making Halo 3 look bad...and I wouldn't take GH3 to beat Halo 3 (nor BS).
