Speaking of polls, I know as well as anyone how unreliable those "what
I got/am getting for Xmas" results can be, BUT, let's all pick up a
grain of salt and consider what kind of new market share we'd be
looking at for the 3 consoles and 2 handhelds, assuming yesterday's
Xmas poll was worth anything. DS would be up to a 69.27% share (from 66.23) * pretty good gain, but still not quite in striking distance of the GBA, which peaked just under 75 Wii would be up to 58.34% (from 52.95) * excellent growth if that holds up, would move the Wii ahead of the DreamCast and put it very close to toppling the SNES to become Nintendo's all-time #4 360 would be up to 46.36% (from 40.85) * the most impressive growth of all, especially since this would vault the system well ahead of the original Xbox's high water mark (never made it to 44) PSP would be up to 31.74% (from 29.16) * eh, not much to write home about PS3 would be up to 21.74% (from 16.31) * oh, signs of live! if this number can be trusted (judging by today's poll it appears to have been at least somewhat reliable), the price cut and holiday games were enough to drive the console to the first really strong result of its life- clearly the PS3 is gaining traction, the problem is just that its competitors already have their traction and are still at full sprint PS - http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Got_Console in case anyone is seeing me post about this for the first time. --- Hot Content A'hoy: thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com PARENTAL ADVISORY - This signature contains Explicit Content. |

I forgot about GH3 being multi-platform...argh, and I had just played
it on the Wii Sunday night!!! Yeah, it'll be a good opportunity for it
to impress against the likes of Madden
and whatever else. GH2 did well enough against FF12 and KH2 last year
when it was just on the PS2, too...not spectacular, but still solid.
With GH3 being on every next-gen console and the PS2 (I think that's
right, somebody correct or concur please), I want to see how GH3 does
against both likely fodder and multiple big-name epics. --- Lobby Hero |

Bioshock sold better than Mass Effect, got better reviews, and has done
better in polls on GameFAQs. And it was on PC too. Both of them are
shooter/RPG mixes, too. CoD4 and Assassin's Creed should dominate the multiplatform polls. AC had crazy anticipation here, and CoD4's sales should be nearing Halo 3's by now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Halo 3 get third in the final GotY poll. --- All you love is a lie. |

Guitar Hero 3 should beat Assassin's Creed pretty hard, and I think
it'll edge out Call of Duty 4 as well. GH3 is on every console that
matters now (and I think I saw that it's on PC today, too...did I see
that right?!), GH2 did relatively well to FF12 and KH2 back when it was
just on the PS2 last year, and I think the CoD series lost some steam
that CoD2 built because of CoD3...I think that'll matter here for CoD4. CoD4'll do well though, and it might still be a toss-up. I'm just gonna side with GH3 on it. --- Lobby Hero |

Oh, and I'll sig-bet that Halo 3 does no worse than
runner-up/#2/whatever for GotY. SMG may beat it...and -- while some
other big games are out there -- Halo 3 has broken more records than
Halo 2 and is on a much more popular system than the Xbox...and Halo 2
did quite well for itself in 2004. I know you only said you wouldn't be
surprised if it happened...but I'd be flippin' shocked. --- Lobby Hero |

The Wii finished up at 56.90% yesterday,
a gain of 3.95% in the past month and a half. Very good, but it's a
little disappointing given that the What did you get for X-mas? poll
had it pegged for 58.34. HOWEVER, if we can take those "no, but I got
an IOU" results at face value, then 58.72% of the site has already paid
full price for the system, which would be enough to lift it ahead of
the DreamCast on the all-time shares. BSW, the PS3 ended up at 21.39% the day before, good for a 5.08% gain over the 45 day period. Long ways to go, as I've said, but it's at least making up ground now. And yeah, I'd have to side with HaR in predicting a GH3 > CoD4 > AC result in the multi poll- 3 has already outsold GH2 worldwide and has the added bonus of having the Wii audience behind it (which is no small change; the Wii version of the game alone is going to be passing the million seller mark within the next couple weeks here). --- Hot Content A'hoy: thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com PARENTAL ADVISORY - This signature contains Explicit Content. |

Well as of the start of December GHIII had sold 3.3 million in the US,
as compared to the 3.1 that GHII has managed so far. And I know that in
Nov alone, 967k of those sales happened on the PS2, compared to 426k
for the Wii and somewhere under 400k on the 360. So the breakdown must
be something like 1.75 mil on the PS2, 750k-800k on both the 360 and

Still no word back from SB, so he really did take off this entire
week+, which in turn means our GotY tourney is pretty much sunk, since
I'm sure he's going to start right in with Best Wii Game tomorrow and
then Best 360 Game the 2nd before he finally checks his tickets.
HOWEVER, we'd still be able to suggest that he use the winners of all
those polls as the nomination process to create the tourney seeding...
but yeah, not seeing that as too possible at this point. On a brighter note, here are the new Got Console results. 47.76% of the site now owns a 360 - wow, huge turnout here; the console has shot up an amazing 6.91% in only 5 months. yeah, Wii growth still trumps that, but by any other measuring stick it's been a great end of the year for Microsoft's console. speaking of which, this moves the 360 comfortably ahead of the Xbox which, as I said last post, never managed to break the 44 barrier on this site 63.87% of the site now owns a DS - which means its actually LOST 2% since the poll taken this Summer. kind of shocking given how worldwide sales have remained through the roof, but in retrospect we should have seen this coming... in the poll this Summer ownership went up over 7% in just two months, which should have made it pretty clear that we were seeing a number way over-inflated by PokemonFAQs. account for that, and yesterday's number makes ok sense again. 35.36% of the site now owns a PSP - solid, steady growth here; the handheld has gained 2.68% in the past 5 months. if it keeps the pace it should top the Atari and original Xbox in its lifetime, but will obviously never challenge Nintendo's handheld numbers from any generation. --- Hot Content A'hoy: thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com PARENTAL ADVISORY - This signature contains Explicit Content. |

Yup, just as I thought, we're rolling right into the Best of Console
polls. Ah well... on the plus side we're getting just the slugfest we
expected so far for Best DS title! Phantom Hourglass holds a slim 3
percent lead, but you'd have to expect Pokemon D/P to be one of the
biggest Day Vote beasts we'll ever see. Here's hoping it's able to make

Phantom Hourglass shot up to #1 when Christmas hit. I've been watching
it the last week - I think it's getting a bit of help there. GH also

also, I'd been waiting to see who would do better, because the winner
of these two is likely to end up in the final along with Galaxy and

The one that's done the best was Mario Kart DS, which I'd attribute to 2005 being a fairly lackluster year outside of RE4 and that it was Nintendo's biggest game that year. Furthermore, you can look at those polls and see how other LoZ-handheld games did. Granted, both LoZ:WW and LoZ:TP were GotY in 2003 and 2006 (respectively)...but Minish Cap was beaten handily by Mario Kart DS, the port of LttP was stomped by Metroid Prime as well as being outdone by Animal Crossing, and Oracle of Ages/Seasons was blown out by SSBM while getting beaten by Conker's Bad Fur Day and Golden Sun too. I'm assuming LoZ:PH has been the best-received LoZ-handheld game, but once you throw in SMG then consider Halo 3 will be in the running as well, that only leaves room for what'll probably be one other game. I think history's shown too often that LoZ:PH will be fighting an uphill battle just on those grounds...and with games like GoW2 and GH3 in the mix as games that aren't directly competing with SFF, I'm confident LoZ:PH won't be #3 in the overall-GotY poll. --- I have a beerpong table designed like a NES controller in my apartment. Huh. It appears as if Phantom Hourglass was taking the day vote away
from Pokemon. I guess Zelda has gotten much more mainstream, at least

Yeah, this has been a killer Day Vote for PH. After the way Pokemon
mounted that great comeback across the board a few months back I really
thought the series had turned the page and was going to have some legit
strength from here out, but I guess it's still got a ways to go, at
least when another big Nintendo title is involved. Now what do we have in an hour here... If he sticks to last year's schedule it will be Best PC game. Ugh! See this is what I wanted a tourney for, so we could skip wasting 24 hours on polls no one has an opinion on. Oh, nice, they're starting the GotY polls. Yeah, I'm kinda surprised Crysis is doing so well (and did so well on
Gamespot's GotY voting) considering how few people have probably played

| Ugh. Come on now SB... I'm all for maintaining
traditions, but when the game dominating a poll with nearly 50% of the
vote has been actually played by about 15 voters, that's probably a good sign that you should have cut your loses and skipped the question. He still hasn't checked my GotY tourney idea BTW. But what we should do is, after he idly dismisses it (which he's sure to do now that he's waited a week and a half and has 100 tickets to go through in a day), have HaR come back in a couple days here and suggest the 8-game tourney using the winners of every system, like he was talking about a few days back. Then we'd have, let's see here... DS - Phantom Hourglass PC - Crysis *shudder* PS2 - God of War II PS3 - Ratchet and Clank PSP - Something Truly Awful *shudders again* Wii - Galaxy 360 - Halo 3 Multiplatform - Guitar Hero III Is that salvagable as a bracket? Uncharted? The game that sold 112,000 copies, has 0 franchise voting,

Hey, I'm still waiting on a feedback ticket too! When it gets answered,
then I'll throw that idea in and see what happens. Honestly though, I
wouldn't be too mad to see Crysis and whatever PSP game make it into

Oh right, the FFT remake. Alright, you got me there, I'd forgotten
about that. It'll probably be the biggest case of franchise voting in
GotY history, but yeah, I guess the PSP representative should be able
to do well enough in a 1v1 environment after all. In that case I guess
the bracket should be more like... Galaxy Ratchet and Clank God of War II Final Fantasy Tactics Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Guitar Hero III Halo 3 Crysis --- That's much better. I think of franchise voting as voting for something because of the
name, not because of it being a port of a previous version. just about
nobody bought FF12:RW and even less liked it, but it still managed to

I don't think R&C is a definite win, it's not like Ratchet has
shown to be popular here, so to say he'll get franchise voting is
absurd. But Uncharted is probably the only thing that could stop
