Oh hey, mock game brackets. I love these. Airplane Wing, Cleared for Takeoff (1)Final Fantasy VII (9)Street Fighter 2 --Tough, but I don't think GTAIII would stand the test of time as well. (5)Super Mario World --This is almost a good match. SMW's just a bit too much for HL2. Ness was a child-god in SSB and my back-up in SSBM. I never was crazy

Anyway, now that the contest is over and afew big games have come out,

Kinda surprised AC is so close to Galaxy in today's poll. Granted AC is

I felt completely apathetic towards Galaxy back then, even though I
knew I'd be getting it at launch, or very soon after (turns out very
soon after, since I don't have my Wii up at school with me), but with
all the amazing reviews, Galaxy is attempting to dethrone OoT for the
top spot on gamerankings, and even if it doesn't, the amazing reviews +
my SM64 fanboyism is making me fight off creaming my pants every time
Galaxy is mentioned. I would have thought more people were getting

| Galaxy was playing Robin to SSBB's Batman for months, but it now has the spotlight for three months (at the most important sales period of the year). That, coupled with the tremendous word-of-mouth that its been garnering, makes me think it will be a consistently strong seller for a good while. |

SSBB > SMG, but I can't wait to play either of them. SMG may not be blowing out AC, but don't forget that when SSBB isn't in the poll that SMG was hanging tough with Halo 3, FF13, MGS4, and GTA4 while MP3:C was in the poll. eh, I'm not that hyped up on SSBB, just because it's going to be more
of the same with some new characters, new items, and some new moves.
Sure, that's about all you can do in a fighting game, but I just don't
see it blowing past SSB games out of the water. I'm going to get it, no
doubt, and I'll enjoy it, but the only way it's going to really impress
me is if the single player story is really good, and I seriously doubt

Brawl probably won't have any more than one debatable match, if that.
Link to the Past, Melee, Mario 3, Chrono Trigger. Four games. It beats

I remember that poll tranny, but there was another poll that was asking
about the most hyped game being released this year but didn't have SSBB
in it...and SMG not only smoked MP3:C but was hanging tough with the
likes of Halo 3, FF13, MGS4, and GTA4. Take out SSBB in that Wii-poll,

Yeah, if one is going to argue that Zelda failed horribly, that
argument can easily be branched out to anything other than L-Block, the
Pokemon, and maybe Metal Gear Solid, although Snake did lose to the

Besides all that though, it's still going to be a battle between Halo 3
and Super Mario Galaxy for GotY this year. I imagine GoW2, GH3, AC,
MP3:C, and Bioshock will do well too (did I miss any?)...but by all
means, it's almost certainly a battle between those two for it this
year. This, at worst, puts Halo 3 as the favorite (perhaps solidifies
it as the favorite for some) when AC was already putting up good
numbers in the E3 poll. Not that GTA is the most respected series, but
AC is a game without a major series brand-name behind it and it still
beat GTA4 there. That's got to say something about either AC or GTA4,

I've had a counter on my desktop counting down the seconds to Mass Effect's release for six months now (yes, that's before the official release date was announced, but I was only a week off in my guess!), but I could not care less about Assassin's Creed. But obviously I am not "normal" in my devotion to ME <_< What GOTY is everyone referring to? The GameFAQs poll at the end of the year? You'd be surprised at how little hype GTA games get, Rockstar is very
secretive and doesn't hype their games up or release too much info. San
Andreas was revealed like 2 months before it came out and it still sold
like 15 million. I honestly think that SMG or Bioshock will win GOTY
over Halo 3. Halo 3 is amazing but more of the same while SMG and
Bioshock are more innovative. The only knock against them is that they
are both single player games and don't have anywhere near as much
replay value as Halo 3, which will be played for the next 5-10 years. --- Go Ducks Go! |

Has there ever been a handheld game in the final 3? Mario Kart DS. I think GoW2 would finish ahead of any handheld title though. If history repeats, we'll only see the winner of LoZ:PH and Pokemon D/P for DS-GotY in the first overall-GotY poll. From there, we will also see it be in competition with SMG (and are they still making GBA games?). I think GoW2 was still real big, even if Kratos wasn't particularly dominant this year, and it doesn't really have anything bigger picking at it for support.
