If we hadn't already had a games contest, I'd be right there with the
rest of you saying it's the bigger draw. But we have, so it becomes
debatable. I know I'd be more interested in a games contest, though. (Or a Tag Team! Tag Team Game Characters Contest! Eh? Eh??) |

Buddy, I'm going to take this horse**** as much in stride as I can. For
all I know you had a horrible day today and this isn't you, and I'm
going to assume the best. Again, the presence of "game" in the URL of the site doesn't change the fact that characters contest are the premium contests here, and games contests are mainly a change-of-pace (albeit a very exciting one). I really don't see how one argue this. absolutely no reason other than you being personally excited by it is
much better. All I'm saying is that there's no reason to say it'd be a better draw. I never once said that a games contest would definitely be better received, or a bigger draw. Basically I could only see us caring more, since we have no idea
how they'd go. Most people who come to this site probably don't give a
damn about 2/3rds of the characters such a contest would bring. The strongest few characters in such a contest would probably get beat by high midcarders like Kirby. The only fictional characters I could see having a shot at beating Kirby would be: Darth Vader, Wolverine, Spiderman, Batman, Jack Sparrow. Maybe some other Star Wars characters like Han Solo or Boba Fett. I guess I'll be left to wonder whether Link/Cloud/Snake/Sonic would've
put on a better show, or maybe even if Chief would've outlasted Sonic
in the semifinals (I doubt it but it who knows?) So yeah in the end if
you took out the leader board bracket bias that's my only regret on
this L-block rally/domination. --- Should I start running now? |

Look within yourself ;) Also really now, how can anyone think a games contest would be a bigger draw? Unlike characters, games get weaker with age. Ocarina of Time's strength, and thus drawing power, is not what it used to be, for instance. Characters are bigger draws for the simple and logical reason that they are bigger than just one game. While there's a chance I could be wrong, there's no real logical or evidence-based way to support the contrary stance. Most people who come to this site probably don't give a damn about 2/3rds of the characters such a contest would bring. Most don't give a damn about at 2/3 of the characters in this bracket. I'd estimate there's probably only about 40 characters we've seen so far that a majority of GameFAQs visitors truly care for. And we weren't talking about 64 non-game originating characters, that's clearly a very bad idea. 24-32 is reasonable. Seriously, lowest votals since the Villains Contest, I'd put money on it. If you're serious, I'd take you up for sure, and lay you 2:1 easy. But we both know this wouldn't materialize and I'm pretty sure you'd back out in a flash if/when such a contest was announced, as things would be more apparent to everyone by then. The only fictional characters I could see having a shot at beating Kirby would be: Darth Vader, Wolverine, Spiderman, Batman, Jack Sparrow. The only guy there Kirby would have a reasonable shot against is Jack Sparrow (I could see Sparrow flopping, too new). For games, FF7 would be the favorite again, as nothing really seems to have come along to change things up. How much faith would people have in Ocarina though? Zelda is stronger nowadays relative to FF, but is anyone else getting the sense that Ocarina hasn't aged as well as FF7? The Zelda fanbase has largely moved on, even though Ocarina would beat Twilight Princess. The great thing about games would be the massive unpredictability. So many newer generation games that would be strong. I'd love to see, for instance, SMB3 vs. some hot new game (Gears or War or something...though actually SMB3 probably wins that easy). For games, would FFVII weaken with age, or does the compilation help at
all? I think the compilation doesn`t do all that much to bolster VII`s

I think many people will be taking SSBB > FFVII I'd hope no one seriously considers that. As popular as Smash Bros. may be, that's asking to be Twilight Princess 2.0 -- and how many people entertain the idea of taking it over FF7? Series would be a bigger draw than games first time around, and IIRC it was a bigger draw relative to site traffic. But series would be fairly pointless to run again, as the change is not nearly as much - it's still the same old series. With games you have plenty of new games of note every year. Already posted my Oracle, but I take Link with just over 62% of the
vote site-wide. Under normal circumstances, say if the match was held
next Summer instead, I'd pick Link somewhere around 70. But with all
the hype and sites linking in right now, Blocky has peaked and would
