Well if you want to take people in L-Blocks path out of the equation in terms of hurting your bracket, I guess it'd have to go to Balthier.

Yeah, L-Block winning is great, I'm just annoyed at the scoring system costing me a prize.

It really was a terrible scoring system... I remember getting annoyed by it a few times in round 1, maybe round 2, where I felt like I definitely had made a better pick than those around me, yet they went up in the ranks, and I went down. If it happened to me at the end of the contest? probably be pissed.

The worst thing about L-Block's win is Tetris's loss back in 2k4. Seriously, why does L get so much more support when Tetris is so much more awesome? It saddens me that all the L loving kiddies weren't hardcore enough to go and give Tetris the push it needed to beat LoZ...

Rapid analysis, accurate judgment, and superb powers of concentration. That is all we need.
ZFS | Posted 11/3/2007 10:13:45 PM | message detail
Hmm.. alright, yeah. Still we've seen linking before, and while I know people have been against it, I don't think it's been anywhere close to this kind of scale, but I think everyone would agree with that. It doesn't seem the same, just because I would think Mario would have been the favorite back then since it's friggin' Mario! (darn you 2k5). Just seems like it's not the same, but i get your point.

The scale is different, for sure, but the end result being "tainted" by outside influence and whatnot is where they're the same. People around here seem to love citing Mario/Cloud as the most amazing result or whatever, but it's not a whole lot different from this in that it shouldn't have happened. Of course, the difference is that people around here generally don't like Cloud while they love Mario. In this case, it's an inanimate object beating Link, so it's all rotten and such.

Just kinda funny how that happens. I can understand being kinda upset if you were in contention to win the whole contest and lost because of it or something, but most people complaining about this match make no sense to me -- and Cloud and Snake are my two favorites in the poll!

The "internet" in general doesn't care about this contest.

Has anyone checked the results when they google "vote for L-Block"

Very few of these are referring to the character contest.

For comparison purposes, number of sites:
Vote for L-Block: 20,900
Vote for Samus: 169,000
Vote for Megaman: 903,000
Vote for Mario: 2,850,000
Vote for Link: 105,000,000

This is almost solely a gamefaqs phenomenon, with moderate help from a few sites. The rest of the world doesn't care.

I can't believe that I'm delighted that Link came within 120 votes of L-block that last update.

Eh, I'm not outraged at this or anything. If this is what makes people happy, good for them. I'm more upset at the fact, as smitelf said, that something like this makes all of our analysis and work (as big a labor of love as it may be) kinda useless. I said before that this is what a lifelong political analyst must feel like if Stephen Colbert won the presidency, and I stand by that. They wouldn't necessarily feel angry, just kinda useless.

BUT MARIO VS. CLOUD MAN, ARE YOU KIDDING ME. THAT WAS GREATNESS.

If you're talking to me, how was this contest any less "serious" than the other ones? They're all for pure fun entertainment value - as if that needs to be said :) This wasn't any less serious than any other in a way I can think of.

This contest will be ridiculed even more than the female one though (and that's saying a lot!)

I wouldn't mind an L-Block win nearly as much as if it was with a rally in an *exciting* match.

Maybe even if that with stuffing (as it would have to be)...I'm not sure.
