the thing is would CjayC have ever accepted the L-block? --- *shakes fist at his own bracket* |
Tarrot | Posted 11/4/2007 1:22:30 AM | message detail |
CJay wouldn't have. He specifically addressed L in one of his posts on
"joke nominations", saying we got Cats already. Bacon eased up on the
rule when he took over, thus, L got in, in what has to be the perfect
time for him. I mean, everything this contest has been set up for L to
succeed. First round, he benefited from his competition being Laharl
and Nathan, and owned both of them. Second round, he benefited from
Kirby/DK SFF/LFF and was able to advance. By this time his innate
strength picked up, and the bandwagon really got rolling. With this
support, he beat Kratos and Riku, and this is when people I think first
seriously thought L had a chance to get to the finals, especially with
his consistency and how well he held up against Snake. The rest has
been history, as that early cushion allowed him to ride into the finals
with relative ease, and might just make him the man who redefines
Cinderella. Add onto all of this that this is his first contest, that
he managed to get into the contest where he would have his best chance
of advancing, (and for the record, I doubt he gets 40%, much less beats
any of the NN or upper tiers in a 1v1 match) and that he's got the
entire internet rallying for him to pull off this upset, right now it
is L's time to shine. Also, on a personal note, I find it interest just how close L, Cloud, and Link are. While L's been steadily increasing his lead, it seems like Cloud and Link are stuck in a quagmire about the 2000 vote barrier between them. L probably can get up to 7000 or 7500 before Link starts to take over, and then its a matter of can Cloud and Snake weight Link enough so that he fails to catch L today. |
YoAriel33 | Posted 11/4/2007 1:26:33 AM | message detail |
I'm assuming that this will be the first and last
contest for characters such as L-Block. It was fun, but I really don't
want to see three or four Tetris blocks (you just know at least one
more will have enough nominations to make it in) in a 64 character
tournament. --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... Explicit Content pwn me... in the Guru Contest! |

YoAriel33 | Posted 11/4/2007 1:56:01 AM | message detail |
L-Block has nearly the exact same percentage he had yesterday, and Link
has nearly the exact same percentage Snake had. Link obviously has the
better morning/day vote, but for the love of Betsy, Snake lost by over
13,000 votes. As long as Link finishes closer than we where he is now,
I'll consider it a success. As for L, I can't see him finishing at nearly 35% again. He might be getting an ever-increasing push, but there's just something about Link and Cloud (who both have great day votes) working together that's a bit scary. It almost makes him/it seem like the villain. --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... Explicit Content pwn me... in the Guru Contest! |

They've reached a stalemate in Link's bad hours. >__> From the looks of things Link's going to be spending the whole day cutting him and would you put 6000 votes beyond him if he's cutting for that long? --- I didn't think that a N9, even if he's Crono, would lose to Vincent... |

YoAriel33 | Posted 11/4/2007 2:09:10 AM | message detail |
Well, I still think L-Block's a bit too enigmatic to pin him down with
traditional trends, especially when he's up against our two strongest
guys. Heh, it feels weird just calling them that when looking at the
percentages. Heck, we may get our 1v1 match tomorrow, and I wouldn't
bat an eyelash if L-Block won again. At the very least, I'd envision
him/it giving Link a much tougher fight than most of the Noble Nine. --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... Explicit Content pwn me... in the Guru Contest! |

Speaking of which, let's just throw this out there: Assume we get our L-Block/Link 1v1 match, and L-Block actually wins it. Where do you then stand on the block's future? Should he be thrown in the next bracket (assuming he has the nominations, which we're all sure he will), isolate him to the post-bracket "bonus matches" like we've done with Link and Cloud, or keep him out all together? --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... The most sensible option is to keep L-Block out. It retires as a champion and will be recognised all round GameFAQs. A legacy that will be passed down. It would be horrible when the next contest rolls around, L-Block doesn't make it to the quarters. =/ |
transience | Posted 11/4/2007 2:24:44 AM | message detail |
I posted about this earlier. if we don't get a 1v1
match, keeping out L of a 1v1 contest would be a terrible mistake
because it'd be the most debatable character ever. if it goes and loses
to Link, same deal. who knows how much of that voting block is static. if it beats Link? well, I think you could still put it in. you're not going to recreate what is currently happening. that's why I think Starcraft will be a lot weaker should we see it again - you just can't duplicate 2004. I understand the argument of retiring it for our sanity, but it's not going to be able to do this again. this is a unique situation, I think. I mean, it lost to Kirby once upon a time. --- not even the great L-Block messing up the contest could stop Explicit Content, sexiest man of all time, from owning the Guru Contest. 'grats, brudda. |

I don't know what I want out of this. Link to make a match of this
would be great but if the block doesn't win that might be excuse enough
to include it next year. >_> --- I didn't think that a N9, even if he's Crono, would lose to Vincent... |

This is the EXACT same thing that's playing out as the Snake/Block
match from last round: Block gains a ridiculously large early lead,
Block begins to fail as the morning goes. Block finally then bleeds
heavy percentage, but still wins due to its sizable early gains. *sigh* --- Ogre Battle saga fanboy, and hopeless supporter of Lans Tartare for CB2K8! |
