He only needs to gain about 16 votes per update to advance, lets hope that the dayvote will give him a few gain 100 votes updates.

Sonic isn't completely dead. an epic L-Block collapse isn't impossible here.

hiiiiiiiighly unlikely, though.

Crap,L-block you should enter a normal format.
to be honest the block's run is like big rigs in the game contest.
early on it's ok but now it's getting stupid.

looks like Squall will take third eventually
transience | Posted 11/1/2007 2:02:17 AM | message detail
I think L is holding up admirably here, all things considered. Snake is a night vote god (though Squall's doing just as well -- not bad, Squall). L is, for the most part, fairly static after those first few hours - he doesn't really fluctuate all that much. Snake, on the other hand, is clearly weaker when the sun is up. I could see L simply stalling this out once schooltime hits, or maybe even increasing on Snake. Snake's only managed to pull 300 votes off during his absolute best time - he can still pull this off of course, but I'm liking L's chances more and more with every update.

oh, and if you believe in the "L always gets 28%" mantra - Snake's at 28% right now, and will probably end up lower than he is right now.

Come on Epic L-Block collapse, Squall for 2nd!

Unfortunately, turning around 4000 votes is a lot easier down 2000 than down 4000. In the first case, improving a little begins the stalls. Then improving more starts the gains that can bring a character back and then put him up 2k. In the second case, improving a little just means losing less votes. Then improving more begins the stalls. They're identical trends, but one way it's a 4000 vote swing, the other way it's a vote loss. So the losers here need L-Block to collapse significantly worse than Crono. And that's not even getting into the lower total vote count between them.

This is to be taken with a grain of salt, but this could give us a good idea as to how much Cloud and Sephiroth split...

Day 3 of the BR:
Cloud - 23.70%
Link - 42.68%
Sephiroth - 16.79%
Snake - 16.83%

Cloud and Sephiroth = 40.49% of the vote. Let's put it in simpler terms:

Cloud/Seph - 40.49%
Link - 42.68%
Snake - 16.83%

X-stat:
Link = 50
Cloud/Sephiroth = 48.5
Snake = 25

Now, you could conclude that Link could beat Cloud and Sephiroth combined already (bar Link isn't being held back by LFF), but I'm not buying that for a second (and prolly not anyone else), as I think the BR was one big anomaly... however, I expect at least one thing to be somewhat reliable, and that is the fanbase split among characters (not to be confused with how characters are SFFed), especially when they're from the same game. To make matters better, Day 3 of the BR had four characters, just like how this contest is.

Day 4:
Cloud - 35.71%
Link - 44.65%
Solid Snake - 19.64%

X-stat:
Link = 50
Cloud = 43.75
Snake = 27.75

So, it looks like Cloud+Sephiroth may be in the ball park of 1.1* Cloud. That's a seemingly reasonable number especially given how much Riku recovered when Roxas was taken out.

It would be amazing if Sonic went from coming within 50 votes of Squall to taking second place, but it's probably not going to happen. But then again, L-Block's proof that you can never say never.

It's looking more and more like L-Block is actually going to win today...
Zaphod H | Posted 11/1/2007 4:19:34 AM | message detail
The early trend between Snake and L-Block seems to be the same as the division final: L-Block starts fast out of the gate (like 40% of the update), and slowly dwindles down to a relatively constant number (around 25-30% of each update). This seems to be the trend for the all of it's matches.

Snake with L-Block is the other way around, starts off slow out of the gate, increases to about a 10% higher, then drops off a bit. (i.e. 30% per update to 40% to constant 34%). It is interesting to note that Snake was pretty much constant for his entire first 2 round matches (steady at 55% or whatnot).

The only difference between the two matches is that Snake started some 5% lower (30% of updates in division final, 25% for this match), whereas L-Block's percentage of updates are exactly the same in both matches. Hence Snake is still down by some 1000 votes now versus leading by some 1000 votes at the same time in the division finals.

That seems to indicate that L-Block seems to retain the same voting fanbase regardless of competition, and that any LFF or SFF or vote leeching of sorts lies entirely between the other 3 characters. It's kind of like a "can these 3 characters get more than 38-40k votes to finish ahead of L-Block contest".

If the above statement holds true, and given some 100k "non L-Block" votes, the split for those 100k votes pretty much has to be something like at least 40/40/20 for L-Block to not advance in a match.

Very interesting to see what happens for the rest of this match and, presumably L-Block advances, in the Semi's.
