No nintendo doesnt advertise the games, at least not here...a majority
of the marketing budget goes into pushing the system itself - the Wii
brand, Wii Sports and the remote Non games get the shaft too...whoever handled the marketing for the Training games should be shot...the other regions make them look pathetic NoJ, and NoE are much better at marketing....however NoE also sucks at keeping release dates and getting a good supply, so you get screwed unless you live in Japan The also never advertise games before hand...they'd rather hit you when the game is actually availible --- Our shields cannot withstand wavedashing of this magnitude! Luigi hasn't been in a match with Pikachu yet. On the contrary, he beat
a Nintendo character that's clearly stronger in non-SFF situations,
which, picture or not, seems to hint that this format may favor him. I
still think Luigi has a chance, but only if two conditions (one of them
being very unlikely) are met: 1. He beats the hell out of Pikachu 2. Master Chief and Dante split votes relatively evenly --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |
Big Bob | Posted 10/29/2007 11:37:58 PM | message detail |
I'm supporting Master Chief > Pikachu for the next match, relying
completely on theories and relying on no evidence whatsoever, letting
my fanboyism decide the outcome. I think that no matter what way you look at it, Master Chief has first. He had zero fanbase split here, so he should comfortably come in first. That just leaves Dante, Luigi, and Pikachu fighting for second. Now, my theory is that, similar to Master Chief, Pikachu ALSO has a hardcore fanbase fighting for second. While a bit out there, is it really that hard to believe? Pokemon is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises; you all saw how well Diamond and Pearl sold. Mudkip did much better than anybody expected against Luigi and Ganondorf, and Pikachu's certainly a step up from him. Though even if Pikachu was stronger than Luigi in this format, Dante remains a problem. He's the sole Sony character in this poll, and he comes from a weaker, but still popular game series. However, if you recall Hayabusa, you'll see a problem. Ryu was absolutely stunning in his first match, but he up and folded against Snake, despite not even sharing a fanbase with him. The only link between the two is MGS2 being released on the Xbox long after the original game's hype had died down. Yet, Ryu crumbled against Snake. Could "badass" SFF really exist? Maybe. Regardless, this is all just speculation and fanboyism favoring a certain result. I'll eat my words quite honestly if I'm wrong. --- It was merely a simple greeting. using Pokemon sales as an argument for its characters is about as bad
of an idea as you can have. I would rely on the "nothing has SFFed
Pokemon yet -- why start now?" argument if I, for some reason, decided
to become a Pikachu fanboy. --- "i go by statisticss put them all in an arena sepphroth="why arent your hair and mustache the same color?!" BAM dead mario" -Rathalownage |

I think it will be MC > Pikachu. and I hope that's how it goes down really. I don't think most people are giving
Pikachu a realistic shot at beating Luigi, but for those who are, just
remember: Bowser beat Mewtwo easily, and I wouldn't argue that Pikachu
is stronger than Mewtwo. --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Uuuugh oh Chief why didn't I see the LIGHT?! :( If only I did then I'd be on that damn leaderboard *sigh*. But yeah, Chief>Dante in this one...orrrr Dante>Chief?! ...Nah, Chief>Dante easily. Pikachu and Luigi will just split too much (although you make a convincing case for the rat, Bob) (and yes, badass SFF "does" exist :D) _____________________________________ hopeless supporter of Lans Tartare for CB2K8! |
Big Bob | Posted 10/29/2007 11:45:42 PM | message detail |
Well, saying that Pokemon's sales don't represent its strength is
certainly a valid argument...in the past. After the series contest,
it's clear that Pokemon gained some momentum, and the explosion caused
by Diamond and Pearl seems to have rocketed the series back to the
popularity it had in the Red/Blue days (don't quote me on this).
Pikachu's always been the face of the series, so I can see why people
would support him. I considered bringing up the point about Tidus and Vivi having some kind of RPG fanbase overlap with Pikachu, but that would be inconsistent with my hardcore fanbase theory, so it wouldn't make sense for me to accept it. Regardless, we will all find out in 24 hours. Should be quite the interesting match. --- It was merely a simple greeting. A friendly tap on the shoulder... with my whip. |
transience | Posted 10/29/2007 11:46:33 PM | message detail |
it's not the sales that are changing, though. it's the audience. Pokemon sales have been huge for years, and that never mattered before. --- "i go by statisticss put them all in an arena sepphroth="why arent your hair and mustache the same color?!" BAM dead mario" -Rathalownage |

Big Bob | Posted 10/29/2007 11:51:41 PM | message detail |
I guess I'm not going to argue about sales mattering or not; don't have anything to back that up. However, with the Bowser/Mewtwo thing...for one, I would EASILY take Bowser to beat Luigi. Not even a second thought. I'm that confident in him. And...it may sound strange, but I think it's possible Pikachu could be on par with Mewtwo. Once again, nothing to back me up.
