So I'm curious.... do you think Link has reached a point in popularity where new games and the like don't boost him? Like, Phantom Hourglass recently came out, and it doesn't seem to have given him any notable boost. At least not yet it doesn't seem that way.

A minor game like Phantom Hourglass isn't going to do much for Link, no. If a game is going to help him -- and Twilight Princess is already a bit suspect -- it's going to need to be something huge.

Honestly, yes. It kinda reminds me about Christian missionaries. How many people are you going to convert, really?

Even if it was like, a fantastic game? PH, I've heard is pretty damn good. I should start it sometime. I have it sitting on top of my PS2 right now.

Brawl should help out all Nintendo (including Link) more than any of his recent games. If you guys don't see your upset this year, you'll have to wait a good three or more until that Final Fantasy VII remake comes out, because this site is going to be playing Brawl for a long while.

Also, I'm one of three people with 313 points who isn't on the leaderboard. Seeing as how my Luigi > Master Chief pick seems extremely unlikely, this is probably my last chance to make it. Do you guys think anyone in the Top 50 might have taken a Seph>Link or Link>Mario upset today? >_>_>

Definitely, yoblazer. I guaranTEE at least 3 people on the leaderboard have Link > Mario today. It was a pretty popular cult upset pick to my knowledge.

I think Link boosted from TP -- it's just that he did so before the game came out. same for the other Zelda guys.

this is why I don't think Snake will see a huge boost from Brawl -- he's already gotten it.

None. Sonic. If anything, Sonic lost strength by being in Brawl now that he overlaps with a lot more characters.

I agree with you on Twilight Princess, but I think most would agree that was already fairly apparent.

Don't know if you can translate that to Brawl though.

However the thing about Brawl that I'm more concerned about, is the bazillion characters. Might dilute the impact a lot.

>_> well, I think it due to the fact that it's been quite a while since sonic has been in a game that has sold a ton, and will get highly praised. The DS ones were good, but not that great, and didn't sell much. Every game snake has nowadays gets praised and sells well. Sonic also needs a more solid base fanbase which I think it will help on.

If Sonic=your Link, then yes, you are doing it right. But then you must pick a Cloud.

Again, Link received a massive boost from TP.

Link (2006c) VS Link (2003c)

Link has a strength of 56.33.
Link has a strength of 50.00.

Link wins with 55.62% of the vote!
A win of 16,886 with 150,264 total votes cast.

One game leading to a 6% boost is pretty incredible.

The only way Brawl really helps Link is if he is a easy to pick and dominate type like Kirby and 64 or Fox in Melee..or if he has a really great frontlining role in the Subspace Emissary

And Phantom didnt really boost Link cause everyone was hyped out after TP...yearly releases dont do much for character strength, look at MM...you have to make the game an event, like TP was last year or Halo 3 was this year

Oh, I know he didn't gain the boost suddenly - that's my point. He gained so much from it before its release that he had nothing more to gain afterwards.

I figure Brawl will help Link in the same way that it will help every other Nintendo character - by constantly keeping them on the voter's mind. We already know this site has a hard-on for Brawl. If the multiplayer is up to snuff (especially the Online), people will be playing it for years. It will be the multiplayer game of choice, and the game people always go back to in between other gaming romps.

Oh, well, if you're talking about gaining that boost over a span of three years, then nevermind. I thought you were implying it all came last year, which is rather ridiculous. He looked like he boosted from the announcement in 2004 and then last year on the advent of TP. I'm doubtful of him being at the same level he was last year, though.

Link seems to have lost his magical SFF powers.

I guess how Link loses his items from one game to the next, so he lost his SFF spell.
