I know I already look like a fool after pretty much calling it for Crono last night (to add to the irony, Vincent started coming back about ten minutes after I went to bed), but I really don't see Crono doing anything other than struggling for the next two hours. His morning vote was extremely poor, and we rarely see morning/after school voting trends defied to such an extent that would make a Crono win realistic.
Osfan | Posted 10/24/2007 9:43:42 AM | message detail
So it looks like it is down to 3 matches of importance left for me. So who wants to take the odds that Yuna > Ganondorf holds up tomorrow? Hopefully I can make leaderboard for the 1st time ever after today cuz tommorow just aint happening... but yeah Vincent winning this is one of the better things to happen in this tournament that and the L-Block.

So much for Zero resisting Link SFF

On the plus side, I still get the same amount of points as the people who took Crono here.

Yes, Vincent has his lead. Now he just needs to make it as solid as he can, and then the ASV should really aid his cause.

Hey right now with my only shot of winning on the line I would like to propose the lack of nintendo factor the LNF. We all saw the atrocity that DK was and the Chief could barely take him why because he is Nintendo. I think we all know what that means tomorrow. We are gonna see massive LNF leading to massive Chief percentage bleeding. Meanwhile the Dorf and Luigi will have an epic battle of who can steal more votes from the Cheif's ASV while Yuna swoops in and has her first match with no SFF or LFF to worry about. Yuna steals the lead and thats the game. The LNF will have left the Chief in ruins...

Or EC will just totally thwart my chances of winning by having Chief win the match and thus eliminating me...

You decide

I can't believe Crono has blown his lead this early. It isn't the ASV yet! And yes, the N9 is now officially broken. The results would not be any different in a 1 vs 1 match.

It's pretty stupid that people (yes, even joke troll alts) are calling the Noble 9 broken based on an assumption.

Link vs. Mario vs. Samus vs. L-Block

Guess that match would break it twice.

It would most likely be the same result, but the NN are not OFFICIALLY broken til that happens.

The difference between Crono and Vincent's performances on Sonic were so close as to be almost meaningless, especially when comparing them in this format. It's near crazy that people are calling this to be the end of The Nine as well, seeing all the reasons why it shouldn't be (coming in second is arbitrary, just as the elimination method of the Battle Royale) and all the things that could be hindering Crono here (Vincent's fan-favorite status, Link having MUCH more of a connection with Crono than him, etc.).

Extremely surprised and pleased to see Vincent ahead here. He won't drop this, and unlike Crono shouldn't blow it when I state that. But I'll have to cut my musings short, as I think a certain old-timer is in the middle of hunting me down and kicking me in the balls right now. :( <<

POLL: Does Patrios is ****? -topic by Tracy_McGREATy
red sox 777 | Posted 10/24/2007 10:06:59 AM | message detail
Alright Crono, here's the plan.

Get the lead back this hour (Crono's second best hour, second only to the first hour, against Vincent in 2005.), and build it to 100 votes by 3 PM.

Shock everyone by losing no ground to Vincent from 3 to 6 PM.

Vincent's ASV/evening vote finally becomes too powerful, and he takes a lead after 6, and builds it to 600 by 10.

Crono starts coming back around 10:30, slowly, rapidly accelerates past 11, and goes berserk past 11:30. CJayC....er....SBAllen forgets to close the poll, Crono surges into the lead at 12:05, and the poll promptly closes at 12:10.

I'm guessing I'm the only one who despite ARGHing at KB more than anyone (why did he make this topic...? >_<) give Squall more than a fair shot there. Getting at least a legit 42.5 on Snake isn't anything to scoff at, and any Squall rise/Crono drop could easily do what random variation doesn't.

Crono has two hours to build up a lead (Which is hard to do considering he isn't even winning) beofe the worst hours he has by far. I predict Crono loses to Vincent by close to 1000 votes. Sucks for my bracket but whatever.

As far as the noble nine is concerned, you can make the argument that it isn't broken, but it's hard to deny that the idea behind them not being able to be beaten has certainly diminished -- and that may as well be "breaking" it.

Honestly, theres no excuse for Crono losing this. Its not Vincent beating Mario because of Link and Samus stealing votes or something. Crono has no real factor hindering him and there is no proof that he'd win 1 on 1 anymore. Even if we keep the Noble Nine for now, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Crono just breaks it next year anyway.

Well, to be fair, it wouldn't take very much of anything to turn the current deficit around in a one-on-one setting. But I would agree that there is little reason for Crono to be losing, outside of the obvious "Vincent is the stronger character." It would be a bit silly to point at Link causing this when Vincent has looked like the better of the two all contest, not even to mention that we have seen Link and Crono go up against each other before without anything fishy happening.

There doesn't have to be anything 'fishy' in a given match for there to be overlap. Just look at... well, Crono/Vincent.

...that being said, I was of the opinion that Vincent was the stronger character before this match started. If he pulls it out more than comfortably here, that shouldn't change.

But can we really say that the Noble Nine is broken or that Vincent has taken Crono's spot in a four-way match? I feel like in order to really say that we'd need a 1v1. This format introduces so many factors that I don't think it's really applicable to talk about the Noble Nine being broken or replaced.

Hmm.... I was gonna use this match to comment on some theories I had as to vote trends, but I'm not sure they entirely qualify.

Basically, I thought that characters that did well at night, did well for one of two reasons.

A) A hardcore fanbase. I don't think that Crono's fanbase is more likely to be on line in the middle of the night. Instead, I think that Crono (and other characters with a hardcore fanbase) always have that fanbase voting throughout the entire match. However, the reason they do well at night is because the fanbase stays solid and makes up a much larger percentage of the votes, while other character's support drops off. To this end, their midday vote should be much weaker than their night vote since the amount of votes coming in is more. However, Crono's last hour was almost up to par as with the first hours of the poll, so I might have to rethink my hypothesis on that somewhat. Final Fantasy happens to have a very large hardcore base meaning that it does fantastic at night because it eats up much more of the percentage, but this combined with its quasi-casual nature helps it out a lot with the midday vote as well, which explains Vincent here and other Final Fantasy characters impressing with it.

The rest of my theory basically had to do with "Mature" characters like Resident Evil, GTA, and MGS, which do really well with the midday vote because they dominate the more casual adult fanbase that is voting.

You had to figure this was coming sooner or later with Crono though. The rest of the N9 gets some form of exposure every year to help keep them at the top, CT doesn't get anything.

I'm surprised that the N9 even held up for this long.
