I wanted to bring this up last night before being preoccupied by the start of this match. From what I read, it seems people are in agreement that this picture format can only spell good things for L-Block's chances. I don't agree. While an in-game picture certainly won't hinder him, I doubt it will make him stronger. Judging by his first two performances, it's clear that everyone (or at least a large enough number of people to help him win) "get" the joke, and I don't think a picture is really going to alter his strength. On the same token, many of us (myself included) might have overreacted just a smidge when we saw his first picture, as we really thought it would make a difference. Now, I'm not so sure. It's the L-shaped Tetris block. Everyone knows that, and the people willing to have some fun and vote for him probably won't be influenced by the picture. In actuality, I'm worried about what this means for L-Block's competitors, Kratos and Riku. A few days ago, I said that L-Block would be the definitive favorite because Snake was the perfect character to pound the other two opponents into dust. Things might have changed now, however. While an awesome Brawl picture would have helped Snake ravage the poll, we can only assume that he'll end up with the infamous Solid ****, while his two modern-era opponents receive much more appealing pictures. In addition, if Kratos gets the Auron treatment in conjunction with Solid ****, he might do an excellent job at resisting Snake's casual SFF. It could be a very hard fought match. I agree about the fears in your second paragraph...but still disagree
about L-Block's pic. People are obviously getting it, yes, but I think
an in-game pic like from the NES game will be the clearest and most
classic way to get the joke across. Those who have been voting for him
will likely be more inclined to vote for him again, and those who
haven't are more likely to see the humor...not that it has to be a
crucial difference, but I think it can do nothing but help. Throw in
that the best option of the three PS1/2 characters will likely look

I hope you're right. =) By the way, if we're willing to count this as a "real" match while simultaneously discounting last year's Battle Royal, Samus has now faced more Noble Niners than anyone else in the group. Crono is the only one left untouched thus far. In addition, she represents the middle of the prestigious pack. I guess she can be viewed as the doorway between the upper and lower echelons of the Noble 9: Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, and Crono are clearly below her, while Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, and Mario are clearly above. --- yoblazer33: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

could find. The reason that Auron got that picture was likely because there was
nothing even semi-decent that Bacon could find. Some of those Yesmar
found are horrible. Auron's pic may be great -- far better than anyone in his match -- but that doesn't mean anything.
People are starting to seriously overrate how much the picture matters
in these things. In only a select few cases would I ever feel confident

I don't think the pic matters too much for Auron/Ryu. It can't help
Ryu, but it shouldn't be a big deal. Massive funkiness between

Repost so people read it. ROUND 2 WINNERS AND LOSERS Winners STAR OF THE ROUND: L-Block - You showed us some strength by convincingly smacking Laharl around. But in this round, you revealed your independent fanbase and crushed the puffball that once vanquished you. You also messed up more brackets than anyone so far. For that, you are the star! Yoshi - SFF? I don’t believe in SFF! Yoshi smashed all murmurs of Mega/Yoshi SFF by putting up a solid 2nd place against the blue bomber and kicking Knuckles to the curb. Marcus Fenix - So much for winner of Jill/Ocelot guaranteed two rounds. Fenix rides into the next round by gunning down the clown and ocelot and taking the seat on Cloud’s coattails. Ryu - Ryu was greatly disturbed by all the Bowser support, and proceeded to Hadoken him right in the kisser to move onto another round, where possible Cloud/Auron SFF could get him into Round 4. Big Boss - That was a great performance Mr. Solid Snake. Uh I mean, Big Snake, uh…Naked Boss? Well whoever you are, you sure caused a stir in the match pic, and you have slayed Magus with your awesome looks! Bidoof - Against all odds, you still perform mightily, o great Bidoof. 13% is a good showing against the likes of Link and Vincent. Zero - You came pretty close to making Crono sweat! Are you going to prove BT right? Are you truly moving to another round? Or was it just robot SFF? Mudkip - You lead this match for a while and stayed competitive? What the heck is going on here? A joke character has strength! Master Chief - You are kicking ass so much that these wide margins are becoming mundane! In fact, if you don’t win your next match, you will likely be labeled a disappointment! Amaterasu - If only L-Block hadn’t advanced, you would have been the biggest bracket buster of the contest! Capcom was so impressed, they announced a port of your game to the Wii! Good times all around! Tidus - You rebounded from a pathetic showing to look somewhat decent, and you even kept Vivi from advancing! All in a day’s work for a Blitzball champion! Riku - That bastard Roxas kept you back, but this time around, you unleashed the DARKNESS upon that unsuspecting ninja. He never saw it coming. Sora - He has finally eliminated the ghosts of 2003 past by crushing Aeris just as convincingly as he was beaten by the flower girl in the past. He still let Squall win though Sonic the Hedgehog - The power of Brawl has allowed you to destroy Sub-Zero this time around, after being a big loser last time. Now he enters the arena of the “S”, where Squall and Sora join the party. Master Moltar - Flat out domination. If you lose the contest, you’ll be right in the DK Tier of choking. |

Losers TURD OF THE ROUND: Aeris Gainsborough - Good job Aeris, you’ve gone from whipping Sora with a pole to being Sora’s *****. You weren’t even competitive in that blasphemous performance! Gah! It makes me want to stab something! Bowser - Surely you would never lose to Bowser if you were the only Nintendo character in the match. Oh wait, you managed to lose to Ryu again and get kicked out of the contest? For shame Bowser, from 59-41 to this. Wario - How could you score under 10% with your nuclear flatulence? Magus - Sure, a Solid Snake-esque pic is hard to combat, but Magus couldn’t even make a match of this. He might not have even beat old man Big Boss! Somewhere out there, Ganondorf is laughing. Zelda - Yeah, I realize she finished last due to Link SFF, but there’s still something wrong with going from 45% on Samus to losing to Bidoof. Raiden - I’m sorry, but I’m still looking at the match pic for your match, are you even in it, or did they just clone HK-47 and stick him in your place? You performed about as well as HK anyway. Liquid Snake - One round, you’re 3 votes Alucard’s superior. The next, you’re being beaten into the ground by Alucard en route to a last place finish. Living on through this arm has lost its power! Ada Wong - Common belief was that having defeated Balthier, you would now easily take 2nd place to Dante. That was the plan anyway, but you got mauled by a wolf, and your arms and legs have been torn off. Not a good show. Balthier - *slow clap* Vivi - And the guru favorite for 2nd falls, as the black mage could not cast the votes that make the Pikas fall down. Kirby - Round 4? More like groped by a giant simian and held hostage, while a geometric block took his place into the next round. I’m guessing L-Block’s power was ineffective. Ryu Hayabusa - You beat Riku and Roxas combined, but that apparently wasn’t enough to secure victory. Burdened with the cries of “Hey, you’re that ninja” and the KH vote, you were removed from the contest nonchalantly. Aeris Gainsborough - Good job Aeris, you’ve gone from whipping Sora with a pole to being Sora’s *****. You weren’t even competitive in that blasphemous performance! Gah! It makes me want to stab something! Bracketmakers - To cap off the terrible scores, only about 6% of brackets took L, and only 8% taking Amaterasu. It truly is a train wreck. Figuring Auron out is killing me here. He is obviously overperforming
in this contest compared to how he ought to be doing (either that or
Ryu is really sucking, because Auron kicked major ass last round). How
badly can Cloud SFF him, really? On the other hand, it's Cloud, and he's been doing pretty well for himself in this contest, too. There are so many ways this could go. Why would Bidoof be a star of the round...? And Mudkip too? A little bit more understandable that Bidoof, but still. He didn't really do anything that was legit. Marcus is a bit shaky too, he didn't do anything special. He was expected to win, if not overwhelmingly; if anything he underperformed mildly anyway. Winners taking advantage of their situation. I eventually decided against Ryu H as turd just because he was widely expected pre-contest to fall to Riku anyway. As for Bowser, letting Mewtwo do that much damage was a bad sign. And Aeris? She barely beat Lara Croft in this situation. The star was obviously L-Block. I'd say Master Chief and Solid Snake are next, along with SF Ryu, Sonic, Big Boss, and Ammy. Tidus did decent, but really, you can't ever call a 4th place guy a star. Especially when be basically performed more or less right at the Oracle consensus. The only reason someone might call him a star is that he didn't way underperform expectations for the first time in forever :) Riku is possibly a star, depending on your POV. He did get smashed real good by Snake, but flip-flopping after becoming a very big underdog is good. Turd is either Hayabusa, Bowser, Liquid Snake, or Kirby. No one else is much in contention here. Zelda gets a pass, calling her a turd would serve no purpose. Everyone saw that coming. Magus was also a clear dog in that match, he sucked but it was kinda expected at the time. I'd say Wario was a candidate, but he was too unimportant. Same with Shadow (though Shadow might deserve to be a turd anyway, despite his unimportance - that was just terrible). And Raiden also did pretty much exactly as expected, if he's a turd then half the characters are. I guess I'd give honorable mentions to Ada Wong, maybe - she looked decently strong after round 1, but turns out she's still fodder. Balthier was maybe a pseudo-turd for similar reasons - he lost to an Ada that was even weaker than we thought. But actual turds are pretty limited to Hayabusa, Bowser, Kirby and Liquid. Master Moltar - Flat out domination. If you lose the contest, you’ll be right in the DK Tier of choking. Is he winning the main bracket? Good job. However, don't expect his odds of winning to be too high. He'd still need a lot of luck to win. The scoring system being so heavily weighted to the later rounds means you can get almost everything right, and still finish nowhere near the leaderboard. Just one tiny mistake in a close match, which happens to be near the end of the contest, can cost you tons of points. There's a decent, if not high, shot that the eventual winner isn't even on the leaderboard right now. LFF - I hate you for killing off Kirby and Vivi, and I’m sure others hate LFF for other deaths. You can't really compare to pre-contest expectations - as I said earlier, if you do that, then you're basically locking into Round 1 stars/turds because they'll remain that way based on their round 1 performance alone. e.g., Pikachu was one of the biggest stars in round 1, but he performed as expected in round 2; calling him a star in round 2 would obviously be empty. And Aeris? She barely beat Lara Croft in this situation. LFF or no, that's sad coming from an FF7 character, THE spoiler of gaming. Does this really compare to Hayabusa flip-flopping to a character he just destroyed and embarrassed in round 1, or Kirby getting his ass kicked by a block he whupped in round 1, or Liquid collapsing to all hell, or Bowser losing to Ryu despite still being favored?
