Ryu and Riku are no pushovers, but I still think Master Chief had the stronger four pack by a good margin. Master Chief still lookin good to take Snake out easy, especially after the day vote...!!

I'm expecting Riku's ASV to be better than Ryu H. I don't think we can expect any massive comebacks, as his ASV obviously won't be bad, but I'd be willing to go as high as a 1,000 vote lead still being in the realm of possibility. I know I'm gonna get a ton of hate for that.

Riku doing better with the ASV sounds reasonable, though it should be close. I don't know if he can make up a 1,000 vote deficit though, especially when these guys will probably only be dealing with about 50K total votes between them. I don't think you'd get any hate for this though, everything you said was reasonable.

This format can make anyone look like a dud. You could call Samus a dud based on her score in the battle royal last year.

Yeah Nightmare is no dud, he'd do pretty solid in the 1-on-1 format.

...the worse it looks for the L-Block > Snake upset, though.

Let's not get too greedy here :) 2nd for L-Block is quite satisfactory to me. If he gets doubled by Snake so what. In-game L plus Solid **** is probably the only L's only shot at looking decent relative to Snake.

Snake wouldn't really alter Ryu's trends with relation to Riku. Snake's night vote would hurt Riku just as much as it hurts Ryu.

This is not necessarily the case. In fact I don't think it is the case. Though we're talking about very minor differences.

Er...what? Ryu and Riku would both stand a great chance at beating Yuna, and Nightmare might make for a decent upset pick against Liquid/Alucard. Especially ??F'd Liquid.

Actually right now it's looking like you're right. I hadn't refreshed the last couple updates.

but I still think Master Chief had the stronger four pack by a good margin.

Could Solid **** actually hurt L-Block's chances of placing next round? If Snake really does badaSFF Kratos and whoever else crawls out of this one, looking like a turd probably won't help him with that, and The Block would be relying on its innate strength...

Nonsense. If Snake performs like crap, there's just more votes to go around. I don't believe in this "badass SFF". I just think L-block (like other joke entrants) has a pretty unwavering group of supporters. He should do pretty good next round despite the increased competition.

Eh, I take Alucard to beat Hayabusa or Riku. I mean, you gotta figure... Alucard only lost to Sora 55-45, he could probably get out of that. Actually I dunno, maybe I'd take Hayabusa over Alucard... tough call.

AND OH YES 25% UPDATE NEED MORE.

Before this contest I would have said Riku = Yuna > Alucard > Ryu H.

Now it's more like Yuna > Alucard >= Ryu H. > Riku. Granted that's probably just the format screwing with me or something, and next year my bracket will make for epic lulz. Either way, MC > Snake. Believe.

Eh, I take Alucard to beat Hayabusa or Riku.

I would not consider this at all. Alucard's fallen over the years. He could put up a fight, but I'm pretty sure he'd be a big dog against both these guys.

Unless Riku really is getting 90%+ of Roxas' votes, Snake is SFFing Ryu right now. Other than badass SFF, he has very little reason to do so.

I do agree with the unwavering support thing, though, so I'm not counting L-Block out under any circumstances.
Lopen | Posted 10/17/2007 10:15:31 PM | message detail
But anyway, my post was kind of a joke anyway. Master Chief even being considered to just do better on a raw level against Snake is not something I was banking on... even if Snake ends up looking better I still have confidence.

The nature of MC's fanbase is he'll look better and better as the competition gets stronger. Look at round 2 vs round 1. Yeah, some of that is Halo 3, but more of that is his static fanbase I think.

CATS would probably behave in this manner, if he could ever get out of the first round.

People said this about CATS for years.

Then his performance on Ansem shut them up.

Likewise, this is why way more people talked about CATS>Peach rather than Meta Knight>Peach. That failed as well.

Just shows how people cling to beliefs I guess, because this notion of CATS non-linearity has been disproven umpteen times. He's the textbook example for non-linearity, despite never showing it!

Definitely not, even in this format. He doesn't have the nostalgia factor, sales number, casual recognizability factor, or multiple system appearances of L-block.

It's pretty much over. Ryu is gaining too much with far too much of the night vote left for Riku to withstand. Even if Riku makes a small cut into the lead with the morning vote, the in school vote will probably favor Ryu H, and that's going to be one massive ASV swing for Riku to make when Ryu isn't bad with it either.

Dammit. (Again.) I forgot about CATS vs. Ansem. Nevermind.

...though, doesn't CATS' performance here actually support the idea of non-linearity? His percentage didn't really drop that much from what he usually gets in the 1v1 format.
Lieutenant Kettch | Posted 10/17/2007 10:29:31 PM | message detail
I think it's too close to say it's over. Ryu's definitely a big favorite though. At this point in the first round match, Riku ended up with about the same percentage that he has now, while Ryu gained a little. Roxas gained a little as well though.
Lopen | Posted 10/17/2007 10:30:55 PM | message detail
Yeah, actually, CATS did about what his pickers expected against Seph in round 1. It's just that Seph sucked ass so Peach and MK got more.

This match isn't for sure done yet, but you'd be hard pressed to come up with a scenario where Riku can come back. It's looking very safe for Hayabusa.

...though, doesn't CATS' performance here actually support the idea of non-linearity? His percentage didn't really drop that much from what he usually gets in the 1v1 format.

Last year, if you peg Samus at 40% on Link, CATS works out to 13%.

This year, using Morgoth's formula and pegging Sephiroth at 43.5% on Link, CATS works out to 13.13%. So no.

There's already a difference of 3.5% between Ryu and Riku's night votes and we're not even fully into the night yet. The only time we see people make swings big enough to come back from that kind of thing is when a bad day vote character is matched with a good one. Or... alternatively a normal day vote character is matched with Master Chief >_> <_<

I missed some MC discussion...and, this is redundant by now, but I'm more scared of him than anything else in my bracket. I've already got him in first place for every match up to when he faces Solid and Sonic (alongside Ganon!), but not any further...and MC's as capable as anybody to take a Noble Niner down in this bracket. Solid and Sonic are going to split SSBB-hype (and if Ganon or even Luigi makes it there, that hhurts their Nintendo support a bit more), MC's fanbase has been long speculated to be the most independent and hardcore, he's got the most recent huge game, and his match this round impressed me much more than what Sonic did last year...and I'm reserving judgment on how it compares to Solid's match today until later in the match.

There's a sliver of a chance MC gets first that match. Not a chance I want to take, but I really wish I had him advancing to the championship.....

The second hour of the poll isn't really the night vote anyway. It's closer to the power hour in trends than the night vote. Not sayin Riku's gonna win the night vote, but the second hour shouldn't really say much either way.

However... even if he does start making a move...

BOLD PREDICTION: X-Box day vote > KH day vote... watch it happen today.
