Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

paraboxx | Posted 10/17/2007 1:03:58 PM | message detail
So Street Fighter 4 was announced this morning.

For me, and surely for a lot of other people, this is bigger than Sonic in Brawl. For people here on Gamefaqs, though...not so much. When Sonic was confirmed, this entire board exploded (to say nothing of the SSBB board). For SF4, I think there's like three topics.

So I guess what I'm asking here is...does Ryu get any boost at all from this? Or was he already going to beat an SFFed Auron anyway?

(And no, I'm not suddenly picking him to beat Mega Man or anything. I may believe in long shots, but I'm not stupid.)
swirIdude | Posted 10/17/2007 1:04:34 PM | message detail
Not much of a boost. If Auron and Ryu are close and Ryu wins, attribute it to that if you want.

Yeah, this match is done. L-Block won't fall below 26%, and Kirby won't finish much higher than he is now.

As for tomorrow: where does everyone see SFF/LFF/whatever happening?

Snake and Riku?
Snake and Ryu?
Ryu and Nightmare?

If Snake > Ryu happens, as seems likely, L-Block will have a hell of a shot next round.

They're both fighting game characters. Most of Ryu H.'s strength comes from Ninja Gaiden, not DoA, though, so if there's SFF, it won't be all that strong, IMO.

Apparently he is. Huh.

But I kindof think that the whole X-Box vs. three PS2 characters(One of which is magically now Nintendo as well) thing is more significant than that.

If Hayabusa got anything significant from DoA these days on this site I'd be baffled. DoA's whole 'appeal' revolves around being the fighting franchise with having the most cheesecake in the industry, and Ryu H. is not a part of that (though they have been playing him up post-Xbox Ninja Gaiden). I'd expect Ryu H. to get more strength from his NES games than DoA.

Uhh, since when is smitelf everyone?

Since I became justifiably paranoid of everyone and everything, duh.

I don't see why there would be an X-Box advantage. Nightmare is on the Xbox too.

I'd expect Ryu H. to get more strength from his NES games than DoA.

I wouldn't go that far, but yes, obviously DoA is not the main source of his strength.

Yeah, I'm kind of doubting it'll make an obvious difference myself. Maybe if Ryu's path didn't seem clear-cut already, it'd be easier to tell. Ah well. *shrug*

On another note, Sonic is pretty much the only character in that pic.
Karma Hunter | Posted 10/17/2007 1:22:10 PM | message detail
Nightmare is on the Xbox, but it accounts for the lowest proportion of his strength. Soul Calibur = DC, Soul Calibur II = PS2/GC/Xbox (with the popularity going GC > PS2 > Xbox, thanks Link), and Soul Calibur III = PS2. As far as the Xbox goes, Nightmare has the least presence there.

I've devised a formula that can tell us how each of the characters is faring

Link:

Expected Round 1: 80%
Actual R!: 70% (Loss of 10%)
Expected R2: 55%
Actual R2: 51% (Loss of 4%)
Average Loss: 7%

Link is 7% weaker than last year. TP hurt him by about 7%. This is consistent with Zelda and Ganon.

Ganon:

Expected R1: 50%
Actual R1: 49% (Loss of 1%)
Expected R2: 40%
Actual R2: 31% (Loss of 9%)
Average Loss: 5%

Zelda:

Expected R1: 34%
Actual R1: 29% (-5%)
Expected R2: 12%
Actual R2: 8% (-4%)
Average Loss: -4.5%

So we can conclude that TP did in fact hurt the Zelda characters (lol Midna for proof) and Link took the brunt of this drop with 7%. Contrast with Cloud

Cloud:

Expected R1: 55%
Actual R1: 61% (+6%)
Expected R2: 51%
Actual R2: 56% (+5%)
Average Gain: 5.5%

So why has Cloud increased? I'm not sure. I still think it's a delayed KHII boost but if it isn't, then I have no clue

I think using this formula can tell us how the next match will pan out. Of course, this forumla is better with more than one match but let's see

Solid Snake got 57%, expected to get 57%, so he has a net increase of 0%
Nightmare was expected to get 22% and he got 22% so he also has a net increase of 0%
Riku was expected to get 35% and he got 27% so he has a net decrease of 8%
Ryu H. was epxcted to get 41% and he got 45% so a net increase of 4%

This is what would be expected in tomorrow's match

Snake: 40%
Nightmare: 15%
Riku: 25%
Ryu H: 20%

However, with the formula.... Remember to divide the net increase/decrease by 4 since it's a four-way match. That means Riku will do 2% worse than expected while Ryu H. will do 1% better than expected. The 1 remaining percent goes to Snake because of the SFF potentiality.

Snake: 41%
Nightmare: 15%
Riku: 23%
Ryu H: 21%

Looks like it'll be close but Riku will win.

What's this stuff about pic factor not affecting L because "he's a freakin' block"?

Um...that's exactly why pic factor is probably huge for him. Does this really need to be spelled out for people? I mean, could this be any more obvious common sense?

The average voter will be confused by the name "L-Block" and will likely not know what that is except by the picture, at which point everyone will be in on it.

People figured before his first round match that the pic could be huge for him if he got an in-game pic (which is the only pic people were expecting). This is not news.
