Who thinks BB could have pulled this off without the Naked Snake pic?
I'm sure it would have been a lot closer, but I still think he would
have won. The 23% that favored Old man BB over Mario in round 1 were probably well aware that BB = Naked Snake, and they would probably still support him here in round 2, so I think he wouldn't have lost too much percentage. I doubt he would have gone below 20%, so that would put him close to Magus, with a slight lead. Crazy thoughts of a contest-newbie or possible? --- A pro isn't someone who sacrifices himself for his job. That's just a fool. - Reno, FFVII |

That trailer is awesome, it's basically just Sonic kicking everyone's
ass... feeling better about having Sonic > Snake first time around

By the way, what do you guys think of Mario's performance? Personally I
think that he isn't that impressive. But I guess it makes sense why
Mario wouldn't be able to dominate other characters with fanbases in

| I'm voting for Sonic because of the song in the Brawl trailer. I think it was also in a Sonic game/port for the gamecube, but I wasn't paying attention. |

I would take Magus and today's Big Boss over Frog and Scorpion, and Midna wouldn't beat Phoenix by much. This picture is killer for Big Boss though -- it's almost halfway through the match and he's got over 2% more than what he got last round...and he's still gaining! I know Magus disappointed, but the BB we knew pre-contest wouldn't be beating him by nearly 7% either! Amazing performance... ...and speaking of amazing, how about that Sonic announcement? **** yeah...he looks more fun to play as than Snake, too, though I'm partial to the fast characters. I wouldn't go that far. First of all, Sonic is already way more
Nintendo than Snake ever was. Secondly, the game hasn't come out yet,
so I definitely can't see Sonic boosting that much. Sonic > Snake is a much more worrying upset, but I'll wait until Sonic's round 2 match before deciding. TuRtLe ~~~ 127/168 in the contest. Next pick: Mario > Magus BlAcK TuRtLe. The cream of Zero fanboyism |

Maybe, but it's a tough sell. Solid and Sonic are likely going to be
fighting more for the SSBB-favor amongst themselves than those two
fighting for Nintendo-favor over Link. Keep in mind after Solid's huge
surprise announcement last year that he had afew months before the
Battle Royale came up, and when he eventually lost he still gave more
of his leftover percentage to Cloud than Link. Sonic's going to have
less than a month to get the word around before the championship
(assuming MC doesn't upset him) and it wasn't as surprising. I also
wonder how well Sonic's going to hold up anyway -- the Sonic Team had
been doing poorly this contest anyway, and we've seen Sonic face Cloud
before (in Sonic's worst against Cloud's best, but still)...now throw
in Link and Solid, and Sonic is going to have a very difficult time. I

Exactly. Notice how quickly Snake's Nintendo power left him when against stiff Nintendo competition? Yoshi equalled Squall's percentage, Samus made him look like the 2 chumps he just kicked the crap out of and the Battle Royale had him dual SFF'd by Cloud and Link to the point it took cheating to get him over Sephiroth with Cloud in the poll. I must say, Frog's and Magus' performances really don't make Crono look
good going into round 3. I need Crono and Vincent to split evenly for

Yeah, I think Vincent > Crono has got to be the favorite right now.
If it wasn't for SSBB, I'd say MC > Sonic would be too for me...but

| You know, for all the talk of Chief upsetting, we've never really seen the guy up against an icon. The closest he's ever come to someone who deserves that status is Crono and Sub-Zero (*snickers*). He may very well destroy the bracket, but he can also bomb himself to hell. He is Master Chief, after all. |

| Mario is doing really, really, good. Considering
his competition, he might end up over 47% here. That puts him about 10%
lower than last round, with much tougher competition (this Big Boss
>>> last round's Big Boss, and Magus/Phoenix >
Pac-Man/Wander). I'd say his competition is stronger than Samus's,
although she may have been hurt a little by LFF from Midna. As for Magus......uh......Crono/Magus wasn't SFF? Or CT characters have finally collapsed and Crono is going to lose to Vincent? Frog actually held up somewhat respectably against Samus- he got 26.5% of the Samus/Frog votes in round 1 and higher in round 2 (probably due to Midna), which isn't that far below his 2005 performance. And it's quite possible Samus has boosted since then. Magus though.....he's currently getting a lower percentage of the Mario/Magus votes than he got against Crono, and substantially lower than he got against Link! Actually, I don't think Magus has EVER met Board 8's expectations in a match, not even in 2003 (with maybe the exception of blowing out Luca Blight in round 1 of 2004). 2003: Beats Sam Fisher, but doesn't score a blowout; not good for someone hyped as being able to beat Link. Beats Ganondorf barely, the board is disappointed because we were expecting him to win easily and challenge Link. Loses to Link, 35% doesn't look impressive compared to pre-contest expectations (ranging from slightly below Crono's level to above Link) 2004: Beats Luca easily, probably the only match he didn't disappoint. Loses badly to Crono, a match that was supposed to be much closer as Magus could potentially rSFF Crono. 2005: Loses to Knuckles. 0 Knux picks in the Guru, Oracle, etc. Then, of course, we have Magus's first round match this year and today. --- Character Battle VI -- Points: 107/160 -- T-1870 (257 way) Bracket: Sephiroth > Fox -- Vote: Sephiroth |

Magus is the same as he's always been, outside that single match with
Link he's been a character whose proud accomplishments were being
slightly above Tidus and slightly below Knuckles. We were just thrown
off by Ganondorf (and Zelda) boosting in general afterwards... --- Samus 2K5 is horribly underrated, and is indirectly stronger than Mario. KHF sucks and never existed either, much like my package. |

| Magus was suppose to be Link's biggest competition
in that contest, the only other character that could stand up to Link

have been a real factor in the 2003 contest, scorned though it was at
the time. Both Magus and Samus performed surprisingly well on Link- in
Samus's case, it was no surprise at the time, but she only did about 2%
better on Mario 2 years later- if Mario would SFF her that badly, why
not Link? The obvious favorite has had huge underperformances in other
contests- Sephiroth/Ganon, Sephiroth/Bowser, Samus/Tifa,

As for Sonic, though, I wouldn't say anything about him until he goes
up against Sub-Zero again. Just as he could shoot through the roof (and
that trailer is definitely 'cool' enough to do it for him), or not move
an inch from what we saw of him last round. I don't think it will
affect very much, though; we'd just be reconfirming him for the finals!

If Sonic had been announced before the contest, I guarantee you that
Sonic > Snake would be the guru favorite in the Sweet Sixteen and
Elite Eight. That said, being a guru favorite did SO much for Balthier <_< --- And if we armed them all with two swords, we'd have four times the votes! |

I'd probably vote for Big Boss... I enjoyed MGS3 more than any other
MGS game, which I know puts me in the minority. It would have nothing
to do with Solid **** though. Who wins? Solid Snake. People will vote for him, most of the people that would be confused would probably just think the names weren't lined up with the characters in the pic, and vote for Solid Snake. --- Explicit Content.
