Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 512

Ganondorf did NOT pass expectations. Just because he was the only Zelda character to not disappoint, doesn't mean he impressed. His opponents was a Kerrigan clone, some stupid PS character that ranked under 10% in the 2004 X-Stats, and some fodder-line DMC villain. I'm surprised he failed to get 50%, to be quite honest

Nintendo characters who have surpassed expectations:

Yoshi
Mewtwo
Meta Knight
Fox
Bidoof
Ganondorf
Pikachu
Tom Nook

Zelda jobbed, most expected Ness to at least keep it respectable. He didn't job badly, but he didn't meet expectations either.

Isaac didn't fail. He met reasonable expectations by beating out Sergefodder. The only one who expected him to do anything was hochi.

As for impressive Nintendo performances:

Yoshi
Samus
Link
Bidoof
Mudkip
L-block
Fox
Meta-Knight
Mewtwo
Pikachu

I do have to agree with Zelda failing, though. People really were picking her for first, as I recall, back when we still thought the female bracket results were worth a damn. Even without them, she should've at least gotten closer than she did.

She made second, at least, but that's about it.
smitelf | Posted 10/7/2007 9:49:18 PM | message detail
Did you see the mad percent Cloud put up yesterday?

I made the best prediction in the Oracle challenge for that match, and as I said before, the reason for Cloud's high level of performance was Kefka. When such a dominating character is put beside middling Kefka-level opponents, and then is given Kefka to draw votes from (and I've explained why this doesn't work the same as usual LFF that detracts from both characters, Kefka's just that damn weak), he should get 56%. Link's still looking good to me.

Bowser only overrated year was 2k5, which was ironically Ryu's only bad year. Last years stats have Bowser and Ryu almost equal.

Which is why I'm so disappointed in his performance against Ryu in both this match and their Round 1 encounter. What kind of factor is Ryu getting to basically dominate Bowser pretty well?

Tetris is a bit of a gray area, though everyone is most familiar with the Game Boy version hence people would associate the game with Nintendo. Even though Nintendo merely got the license to the game.

He's not dominating Bowser. And we've seen all the fighting game characters impressing this year. This format seems to help the genre.

Anyways, my bracket is screwed. I was counting on Bowser advancing to round 4 with Cloud to SFF Samus and let Mega Man eek out the win. That's not looking to likely.

...actually, Kefka kind of held up well, didn't he? At the end of both matches, Fenix was leading him by about the same relative amount.

Kefka was (more mildly) SFFed in the last match too, so that's not surprising. Also, it's not like Kefka's whole voting bloc is the same as Cloud's - but the part that is the same can be expected to have voted very, very strongly in Cloud's favor. It gave him the extra couple of percentage points he needed to push above 55%.

It helps that many verisons of Tetris on Nintendo platforms are million sellers...only two verisons of Tetris for the PS have sold a million otherwise

However L-Block inst a Nintendo character in the traditional sense...he isnt owned by Nintendo, he just derives a large portional of his non joke vote strength from Nintendo

I can't wait for Mario's match. I want to see how well Big Boss holds up when he already got 23% with Pac and Wander alongside Mario. I want to see how well Magus does after he let Phoenix lead him for several updates and couldn't double Crash. I want to see how well Phoenix's hardcore fanbase holds up to Mario in comparison to how Miles held up to Link. I want to see what numbers Mario can plant on these three so we have a better idea of what'll happen against Sephiroth...

...just saying, I'm really interested in it. Won't be a long wait until the next match that interests me!

At this point, that's probably my second most anticipated match of the round, but it's still light years behind Luigi/Ganondorf. The possibility of a Luigi upset is the only thing keeping my bracket from being a complete disaster.

Given the Pac/Mario "SFF", I think BB's number is a wee bit inflated there, and the 3 way race for second couldn't have helped Magus in his match.
