Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 512

Fun thought: this match definitely contributes to the theory that Mario/Sonic SFF is real, along with SMW/Sonic 2, Yoshi/Knuckles, and Mario/Shadow (and Sonic/Luigi?). But one thing we've learned is that SFF also equals LFF...without Shadow here, Bowser might actually be winning.

The more characters you take out of the poll the better Bowser does. No way does Ryu beat him 1 v 1.

NO. Bowser is too far behind to be winning even if he's being pulled down by Shadow. Auron beats Bowser 1vs1 and in a format like this. Auron is the stronger character.

Also, Columbus Day... what a stupid holiday. In Vietnam we don't have pointless holidays.

You know, with Alucard and Sub-Zero both exceeding expectations, it's possible Auron got hit by some SFF last year against Crono. I mean, he has a stronger four-pack than Mega Man and he's doing almost as good... without SFF. Auron is scary. It's a shame he ran into the absolute worst character he could have gotten next round

I think it might be possible for Link to lose if Ganondorf makes it to the finals. Big if and, even then, I'd bet on Link.

Huh? Alucard was the most disappointing character in his match! He was expected to crush Liquid and Ness effortlessly.

Uh, I admit Alucard losing was disappointing, but no one expected him to crush anything. It was the most debated fourpack of round 1 for a reason.

In terms of expectation, I think it was Liquid who overperformed slightly (like other MGS characters) more than Alucard or Ness really disappointing.

The oracle consensus had Alucard with 29% and Liquid with 26.32%. So you could say Alucard disappointed by about a percent and Liquid did better by a percent. Really nothing too much worth noting. It went pretty much as planned

Yes, it was all part of the plan. Alucard's got a long-term strategy for winning the contest next year, and losing to Liquid was an important part of it...somehow.

If there's Mario/Sonic SFF then why is it so inconsistent?

Why would Shadow SFF Mario but Bowser SFF's Shadow?

still my favourite was him letting ganondorf win so that CATS would rank above him.

It's funny, Auron is just staying in place while he let's Shadow do the percentage ripping dirty work. But each tenth makes him look that much better to survive Cloud's SFF buster. Damn I wish I had Auron in round 3 instead of Bowser, gahhhhhh.

One other thing, though. Does anybody have any good reason why Mortal Kombat seems to be reasonably constant (Sonic couldn't budge Sub, and Chief didn't even do much) while Ryu turns to (and drops like) stone in the daytime?

There's been pretty good evidence Bowser just plain sucks at this format (take a look at those favorite Mario character polls). It's not necessarily Shadow SFFing him.

I still don't see it happening. I'd love for Auron to advance, but Cloud vs. Auron is like pedophile vs. 12-year-old girl (*rubs eyes to scrub mental image).

Not necessarily, especially if Bowser somehow survives this match. He held up pretty well against Sephiroth anyway and wasn't too far off Bowser even when SFF'd back in 2003. Lots have changed since then.

Yeah Auron's not advancing to round 3. It'll be between Ryu and Bowser, depending on today. If they can come this close to Auron, surely they can overtake him with Cloud in the poll.

Well, I guess Auron is a 12-year-old girl with self-defense training, so maybe she could kick Cloud (you know, there) and run for it...but her chances of escape are still slim.

This analogy has a mind of its own now.

Bowser's problem here isn't really Ryu, or even Shadow...it's Auron pulling so many votes with his core fanbase of awesomeness. Unless Auron drops, I don't see Bowser getting anywhere.

I'm not so sure right now. If Ryu goes into cardiac arrest once school lets out, Auron could stretch his lead to 10%+. That's far from chump change when you're only dealing with ~63% of the total votes. If Kingdom Hearts II has done anything in terms of making him more SFF-resistant (nothing but speculation here), he'll win it.

Plus, he has my vote, and isn't that what really counts?
Master Moltar | Posted 10/8/2007 11:06:18 AM | message detail
All this talk about Ryu and Auron and Bowser blah I say!

Look at SHADOW increasing! He's a little away from 13%, which is just amazing. We all know Sonic gets its ass whipped in this format, but one on one with these guys and he should be able to at least get about 80% of their voters imho.

Excellent performance today. I set the impossibly high bar of 14% on him, and he just a percent away. Amazing. Stunning. Excellent
