so far, this match isn't doing a thing. Leon and Vivi like taking turns
winning hours while Ridley continues to suck. we'll see if Rids can

Yeah, it's difficult to get excited for this match. I was really hoping
for Spyro to do something impressive like Crash did...or at LEAST pull
some numbers like Jak did. I guess this is what happens to

I also noticed something that's a bit of a break-through for MC (though
I'm behind on the times now): he beat his first Square character. Aeris
smoked him in 2k3, Frog stole one from him in 2k4, Crono 61-39'd him in
2k5, he's lucky Sub-Zero beat him so he wouldn't have lost to Auron in
2k6, and you can even say he's lucky Halo lost to CV in the Series
Contest so KH wouldn't have beat his series there too. Hell, looking
back even deeper, there was a chance that Cortana would have faced Yuna
last year and Halo could have easily faced KH in the Game Contest
(though it would have probably won that). Looks like there has been a LOT of Halo/Square set-ups, but MC finally won one against Yuna and won it big. He'll beat her again next round as well, and perhaps even Round Three if she advances with him again. I'm actually thinking that performance was less impressive than we
thought it was.. just look at Tidus. I can't wait to see who places

Yeah, Leon/Dante will be great, especially if Ada isn't in it as well.
I'm still thinking Tidus won't affect Vivi TOO much though. Pikachu
will do better than I once thought he would and will beat Tidus worse
than he did this round...but I'm cautious about giving Pikachu any more

It's possible, sure, but Yuna/Vercetti as 2nd/3rd beats the 2nd/3rd
contestants in many matches set up so far and MC has a really high
percentage for not being a Noble Niner. Rikku still kicked ass as well
while dealing with Vaan in the match with the highest vote totals so
far, and Auron isn't looking so bad either I hear..... I wouldn't rule out Yuna looking more like 2k5 than 2k6 nor that this format isn't flattering to her...but until then (and even then), that was a great win for the Chief. --- Damn, most of my dates involve mocking and/or beating up people like you and your bride-to-be, so I really have no advice --Horatio |

digging deeper, all that FF/MGS SFF stuff comes up with this match
again - if you believe Auron/Big Boss is SFF, Yuna/Liquid Snake isn't
that far behind. then there's the possibility of any xbox support from
Alucard being stripped by Master Chief. there's some overlap in that
match, but I don't think we have any idea how it's going to end up

I know I have my thoughts on this, but who would you guys classify as the biggest stars/turds of the round thus far? I was actually considering doing a separate mini-writeup for each division about this, so I'm definitely interested in others' thoughts. --- This was KING BELLIS LOL |

Yeah, I already thought about MC/Alucard but hadn't thought of
Yuna/LS...and Alucard/LS again, too. Their match will be really fun to
watch as far as theories go. I don't think Alucard'll hurt MC much
though because of Halo 3's release, but time'll tell on what really

Stars: Master Chief Meta Knight Pokemon MGS Marcus Fenix Turds: Balthier Midna Serge RE characters not from RE4 --- Samus 2K5 is horribly underrated, and is indirectly stronger than Mario. KHF sucks and never existed either, much like my package. |

| Serge was certainly disappointing, but at least
there was some discussion about Serge maybe taking last. There wasn't

Tidus and Balthier definitely compete for turd. Leaning Balthier since
we can be pretty confident that Ada isn't worth much and he still fell
flat on his face. There's a whole lot of dishonourable mentions but
those two should be very close to the top. Stars is trickier because there's a bunch of different ways you can look good - crushing your opposition (MC), vastly surpassing expectations (Arthas), winning a close match as the underdog (Nick)...it's hard to say which is better. --- Mustache...and green... www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/Brawl.jpg |

I've done a lot of star/turd writeups by division, but haven't in a

If Ada and Frank West traded percentages, I wouldn't give Balthier such
a hard time...but we've seen Ada bomb before and she's not restricted
to a system that tends to have a very devout fanbase like the Xbox/360.
Tidus would have had to get 30% or less for him to take that award from
Balthier for me, and even then I'd still consider Serge being in the

star so far.. is probably Master Chief. an impressive loss or
surprising second place finish can't compete with a crushing win,
especially when it strikes fear in anyone who didn't take you four or

Throw in that his match was BEFORE Halo 3's release, and that just
makes him look all the better. I could support MC being the star of the
round so far, though I really wanna see how he reacts with everyone

Fun lil' question I just tried to answer for myself since I cannot get
over how disappointing Balthier was: would you take Balthier to get
first ANY four-pack in the contest if he was able to switch places with
any one character? His match was already one of the best opportunities
possible...but maybe if he took Gordon Freeman's or Sora's? Probably

I thought Vivi might do a little better in the afternoon than Leon, but
I guess neither one of them can withstand those "huge" 12% updates
Spyro is pulling in. This just means they better bury Pikachu when they
have the chance next round. --- Should I start running now? |

I'm holding final judgment on Balthier until next round, when we can
get a better grasp at where Ada is. Needless to say though, he isn't

it's not much of a fall. Leon (and Ada) are very steady with vote
patterns. Vivi having stable vote patterns pretty much proves he's not
from FF9 in most people's eyes. Zidane rocked the night vote while

most of those duds are there only because of our expectations. they
were completely untested, and in Serge's case, almost expected. Tidus
is the only one that can be put in the dud class legitimately, and for

I would just like to say that Division 6 has been my best division, scoring 14 points. My only mistake being Tidus > Pikachu. /brag --- Although that does highlight my abysmal other rounds. |

He performed almost exactly to expectations...like, the Oracle average had him within less than a percent. He wasn't even the most impressive noble niner, relative to expectations. --- Rapid analysis, accurate judgment, and superb powers of concentration. That is all we need. |

Vivi in place of Tidus? Pikachu still wins... maybe... though it'd
probably be closer, though at worst I think Vivi would do equal to
Tidus. I honestly think Pikachu was more of a star than Tidus was a
turd, looking at the other Pokemon... Tidus did well in comparison to
Isaac, at least. It's not like Isaac had to fall off the face of the
earth in popularity since his last appearance or something. Tidus might
still be a solid mid-carder, but is just hurt by the format a bit. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Master Chief did about as well as I expected, so I'd probably give the

You can't really trust Isaca for that much though. Yeah, he got like
18% in the stats but it was because of a blowout match against Samus.
Plus it was four years ago. It's possible he's about constant, but I surely wouldn't put my money on it. Tidus not being favored by this format seems the more likely case than Pikachu earning all of that win. And also as people have said, Tidus/Serge/Isaca fanbase overlap. --- Raiden, Kirby, my stat analyses and my own face all suck horribly. Note to everyone on Board 8: XIII_rocks never loses sig bets. |

expectations. Cloud did have the most impressive Noble Nine performer regardless of what the expectations were, though. Putting up 61% on Jill and Ocelot is impressive no matter how you want to slice it. I'm not going to say that he should be on everyone's list, but I certainly consider him one of the most impressive of the round. --- let's mosey |
