I was going to say Vincent, but although Samus didn't have SSBM in
2000, she did have the original SSB. She also got 47% (!) on Sephiroth
in 2002 before getting Metroid Prime, so I'd guess she still beats
Vincent in 2000. --- Character Battle VI -- Points: 45/56 -- T-132 (48 way) Bracket: Crono > Sam Fisher -- Vote: Crono |

Samus/Sonic resulted in a flame war? Summary? And hypothetical situation: the first contest was in 2000 instead of 2002, does Samus lose to somebody outside the current Noble Nine? Oh yes, it was a big one. CJayC had to make two bolded topics on Board 8 saying "The results are FINAL!" but that didn't stop many people from talking about being screwed over. IIRC, Sonic had a firm lead over Samus until Samus mounted a huge comeback and won it with a margin of 34 votes (a record that stood until Master Chief/Frog in 2004). In 2000, Nintendo unveiled a teaser trailer for Metroid Prime at Space World of that year. They didn't actually say it was Metroid Prime but did say a Metroid project was in development soon after. That trailer would have given Samus a boost similar to the Twilight Princess teaser in 2004 gave Link. --- Today's Subliminal Thought Is: |

To anyone that doesn't think Samus had any strength or recognition pre-Prime. In 1999, there was demand for Metroid and a lot of it. IGN even published an article saying one was in development in 1999 (the problem was their source was very sketchy and nothing was heard until Space World 2000 when the Prime teaser trailer was shown). This gave Samus and Metroid a pretty damn big boost in Nintendo message boards and Super Smash Bros. release at the same time likely added to that. I don't know if Samus would be a Noble Niner in 2000, but she would be damn close to it. --- Today's Subliminal Thought Is: |

Time for another CRAZY BT THEORY!!! Okay, examine these 2 pictures: http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/gallery/albums/sc2k4/sum04b61a.jpg http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/gallery/albums/sc2k4/sum04b61b.jpg They were the match pic for Mega Man/Link in 2004, a match which many assumed to be an SFF beat down due to Link doubling the Blue Bomber. But look closely at the pictures. In the first one, Link has Mega Man on the ground at the tip of his sword, and in the second Mega Man seems to be some weird Transformer-like robot that I've never seen before. It's clear what happens in match pics with such a clear bias towards one character (Sora/Snake, Tifa/Samus anything/Solid ****) so maybe, JUST MAYBE this was a case of a horrible match pic as opposed to an SFF beating. Why do I bring this up? I think you all know Zero > Crono/Vincent confirmed!! TuRtLe ~~~ 44/56 in the contest. Next pick: Crono > Raiden BlAcK TuRtLe. The cream of Zero fanboyism |
