When will we have a match that goes at least somewhat close to general expectations?

Sonic > Sub-Zero

Interesting question, what would you say has been the most predictable match this year? Every match seems to have had some little surprise.

Auron > Shadow

Interesting question, what would you say has been the most predictable match this year?

I would say the matches involving Cloud and Samus were fairly predictable.

Sure, it may be a management thing, but how much more clear should it have been made?

About infinity times clearer, really. I mean, if the slightest effort was made to make things clearer, there'd be a lot less messed up brackets. This isn't really debatable. I've managed and admin'd a lot of stuff like this, and believe me, the blame lays almost entirely on flawed communication.

Falcon still seems like the clear choice, but I hope this stays close throughout.

Hell, I didn't read the rules, and I managed to get it right.

I've learned from experience that >50% of the population is incredibly stupid.

Heh. "Think of how stupid the average person is...and then realize that half of them are stupider than that!"

This is a definite improvement from where he last stood in 2003 (after adjusting for Shadow, obviously)

An improvement?
Dude's getting doubled by Fox McCloud and that counts as an improvement?

I know, I know, SFF/Mario proxy/X/Y/Z. But still, being neck-and-neck with Falcon after Warioware just seems sad.

This just in: "Cool" characters crush characters of the same series, be it rSFF or SFF.

Give me Wario to beat Peach. The SFF no doubt favors him slightly. However, I'm not sure he beats Meta Knight in yesterday's four pack, heh heh.

And by the way, I think people are overrating the "bracket vote" here. I don't think this is anywhere near a unanimous choice. Some people might think Fox needs the help, having him in second place. Some might have Captain Falcon. Some might be voting Fox having him in first place just because he's the one they have first, not really getting that protecting second might be more useful.

I just don't think the bracket vote is much of a factor in this format, generally, except for possibly in situations where it's a match with a lock for first place and a debated second place that's not obvious, like yesterday's.

creativename | Posted 9/11/2007 9:36:38 PM | message detail
Well maybe not necessarily stupid, just lazy. You see it in the boards lots of times, people asking questions that could be answered easily by the FAQs or the manual.

That's real life. Any managing body that doesn't explicitly account for that is bad management, and probably won't last long in most situations (obviously, here it doesn't matter).

Also this case isn't entirely comparable to those. This wasn't a simple FAQ situation, it was a totally different bracket when people were already used to something traditional. It screamed for better communication - if you were making the entry form and couldn't see this coming, you're pretty blind. It was so easy to foresee.

Listen guys, Captain Falcon is a huge board favorite because of my analyses last year. People adored Captain Falcon telling Marle to show him her moves and then annihilating her with the Falcon punch. But he's going down, now.

Awwwwwww yeah. Fox layeth the smackdown. Take it out of the hands of the afterschool, although I can't really say he wouldn't do fine there. Actually I have no idea how the afterschool will go, or if it will even be significantly different. The important thing is Fox won, and he has fired a warning shot for Meta Knight.

I don't know about Wario being more of a day vote guy than Falcon. Falcon does seem like more of a board favorite, but Wario had the brackets, and he also seems like more of a night vote guy.

I have trouble seeing how Wario gets the after-school vote ahead of Falcon.

Then what do you suggest Bacon do? Put everything in BIG HUGE BOLD LETTERS? Heck, I'm sure most participants didn't bother to read the rules, even though there was a clear paragraph explaining how the contest worked.

Uh, yes? Putting something in bold letters is hard work now? That's the absolute least that could be done. And it shouldn't be on just the instructions page, it should be above the bracket itself (in large font - look at my updates page), below where you enter your address. That takes 15 seconds, and would've wiped out the good majority of the entry mistakes.

You should especially put something in bold when it was a non-obvious type of thing like this bracket.

I did too, man. Actually, I did much longer than briefly, I changed it the day before bracket submission, when I realized my whole argument for Peach collapsing doesn't apply to Fox. (Wario, perhaps)

Wario might strike me as a "day-vote" guy if he was the only nintendo character in the match. That is not the case here, obviously.

And I never got to see an entry bracket, but the notice at the top that explained that rule really should've been in bold. Possibly even in red. Otherwise it just reads as skippable text.

...or...was there a notice at the top of the bracket?

If only Fox wasn't blowing out everyone here, MK mighta had a chance to reach Round 3.

Anyway, I can't see Wario keeping up with C. Falcon with the after-school vote. Mario characters just don't do as well as other characters know for their day-vote, it seems.
