Brawl art would help him infinitely more than a Kid Icarus one. If
you're going to vote Pit based on Kid Icarus, chances are you're not
going to need the picture to vote for him, if people are backing him on

I'm definitely of the opinion that the Brawl trailer is the primary
reason for not only this performance, but Meta Knight getting into the
contest. That isn't to say that the Brawl trailer(s) have created brand
new Meta Knight fans. I think it was more along the lines of
reinvigorating him; bringing him back into the spotlight with people
who had forgotten him. I'm sure there are a number of people who knew
of Meta Knight, but due to a lack something substantial in so many
years, he sort of fell to the wayside. It might be off, but that's what
I'm thinking at least. I'm not buying what we're seeing here is all Meta Knight based off of Kirby games, though. This could almost assuredly be linked to Brawl. --- Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion. |

I think SSBB helped MK a great deal today. Most people have speculated
that there is an overall apathetic feeling towards Peach among the
Nintendo fanbase, and even though she's already in the games, people
still feel that way. MK on the other hand is the cool/badass looking
new character with tons of hype behind him, basically representing all
the SSBB anticipation. (I'm not saying moreso than snake or whatever,

Kirby > Kirby games has been a common refrain on this site for years. Don't slip Meta Knight in there based on that. Actually I have read Kirby characters>Kirby games many times. It was discussed in this topic that Kirby (and Samus too for that matter) probably got a lot of their popularity from SSB/SSBM. Yes, long after those games were out. Meta Knight will boost from Brawl later. Because Brawl having over a year of massive hype including 2 E3's does absolutely nothing right? It does nothing to Meta Knight, yes that is right :) I don't see how you can agree that Snake jumping from the bottom of the Noble Nine to completely dominating Sonic and Snake (think about how hard it is to gain that much popularity when you're ALREADY that popular), but then say that the trailer couldn't possibly impact Meta Knight's strength by 1 percentage point. Again, I have to kindly disagree. This seems pretty obvious and straightforward to me. The majority of the voters probably heard of the Snake thing. Also it was to a new fanbase/demographic/console ownership sphere. Very few would know about Meta Knight, and much fewer would actually let it affect their vote. And again, the aftersshool vote going Meta Knight's way is almost conclusive here. That's just not what would have been expected if Brawl hype helped him. Intuitively I thought Meta Knight would do good with the day vote, but when people said maybe Brawl hype could help him, I thought him collapsing in the day was a possibility. contest. It helping him a lot to make the contest is probable. Noms are pretty easy to change. I'm not buying what we're seeing here is all Meta Knight based off of Kirby games, though. This could almost assuredly be linked to Brawl. But given what I've already gone over, one cannot say that this almost assuredly is the case, because it's flat-out unlikely. Here's the thing. Sure, Snake may have boosted from the brawl trailer,
but it was just by a few points. Also, Meta Knight's inate strength is much
lower than Snake's, so it's also that much less likely for a boost of
the same magnitude, I'd think. This is mostly his backing from the
Kirby series and the fact that he just looks cool. That being said, I don't think that Meta Knight is as strong as he looks here. 1) Kirby has a solid day-vote, so MK having one isn't so surprising. 2) SSB/M tends to have strong day-votes, so MK having one isn't so surprising. 3) Solid improved a lot because he wasn't really in the Nintendo fanbase's minds before SSBB...and we agree that the Kirby series and Kid Icarus aren't terribly popular, even among Nintendo fans. Would it be insane to say SSBB is responsible for making Nintendo fans notice them now, even if they've been Nintendo for years and years? I don't think so, and -- though I would think Peach would take a lot of his SSBB-support -- many Nintendo fans are simply apathetic to her. Odd-idea alert: given the attention on the SSBB-site since the relaunch, I could reasonably see Nintendo fans "chance-voting" on MK being a more likable character in SSBB than Peach currently is. I'm not crazy about any particular Kirby game and think the SMB series is arguably the best ever (it or MGS, can't decide!)...but man, if it wasn't for CATS, I would have only barely voted for Peach over MK. He just looks like he's going to be so bad-ass in a game probably most of the site thinks will be bad-ass.
