That was Marcus dropping and Kefka remaining consistant.

Kefka didn't do anything that time. He only increased 7 votes from the previous update.

Marcus, on the other hand, dropped 44 votes.

I saw more than a couple of people in the last topic calling Fenix the favorite for next round (and for once BT, I'm not talking about you).

As for Fenix, he's always got the "advantage" of having a more separate fanbase than anyone else in the poll (he's still managing to currently lose to Kefka here). As for Jill, I'm not buying her being significantly more affected by Cloud these days. I was calling for FF/RE SFF *hard* in the Series Contest, and it just didn't happen. Sure you can say RE4, but it wouldn't get 50% percent on all the other games, and it was on PS2 as well - sold better, too.

Nothing's impossible, but I'd count on Jill outperforming Fenix with ease before I saw him giving her a match. Of course she could drop the ball next round to change my views a bit...

Ocelot will get more SFF than Jill from Cloud. It's not just console - MGS and FF7 are both very storyline heavy, while RE4...isn't. That could be a non-factor but it's something to think about when considering similar fanbases. Plus, Boss/Tifa proves that the FF/MGS SFF stretches across the generation gap.

Eh, I think Boss looks okay in the stats... until you realize she's "overrated" through Samus/Tifa. Adjusting her down makes her lose to a lot of people that likely wouldn't have a chance against her... I think it's safe to say Tifa overperformed some on The Boss, though it's impossible to know without seeing her again.

I think Voyevoda's ranking is fair. Any Tifa overperformance on Samus is compensated for by Tifa's overperformance on Boss, so the overration and underration balances out nicely.

Honestly, with the large amount of percentage that Cloud is going to pull in, it's not going to matter too much. Plus, if we want to talk about potential "SFF," look at MGS/RE in the Games Contest.

And then there's Ocelot/Nemesis, but we've never seen FFVII vs. RE. We've only seen RE face FF at all twice outside of the Series Contest: Tidus/Claire and Squall/Jill. Regardless, I'm not taking "SFF" for granted because it's just not a certainty.

I'm not taking ANYTHING for granted right now. Zolom still has a chance for second place!

Zylo the wolf | Posted 9/7/2007 10:59:52 AM | message detail
Sephiroth VS Liquid Snake is a better example to say that FFVII/MGS might share some fanbase. The Boss on the other hand, could be just as weak as that match says since we have no other poll that says anything else.

But none of this matter since Jill is a lock to beat Ocelot. I'm more worried about Marcus Fenix taking the second spot away from Jill in round 2. I thought/hoped that Marcus would be weak as hell >_<

Except that you have no idea where she should be, and I'm willing to bet my left nutsack and a half that Ocelot would beat her pretty easily without SFF. She probably is disgustingly weak, but we really have no idea how weak, so there's absolutely no point in bringing up Tifa/Boss SFF.

Presume Tifa gets 45% on Samus, without the ridiculous overperformance. Now, presume that The Boss gets 30% on Tifa without SFF as most people expected her to. Hey presto, it balances.

And Halo 3 being out willl increase X-Box fan traffic on this site, so there's another intangible in Marcus' favour in round 2.
