Kefka with a 20 vote advantage that update. So far it's been:

Marcus stall
Marcus stall
Kefka 20-30 vote advantage
Kefka 15-25 vote advantage
Marcus stall
Marcus stall
Kefka 20-30 vote advantage

Oh...and throw in the odd, occasional Marcus 10-20 vote advantage once in a while.

So...how do you guys think this will go?

Personally, I see Marcus making this turn. He looks to be stalling enough, and I get the feeling the day will strongly favor him.

I think the day vote will favor Marcus. By the looks of it, I don't think Kefka is going to have enough of a lead to hold on and enough support to have any sort of late comeback. I would expect Frog/Axel Part Deux without the late game heroics.

Now get going Kefka, you're supposed to own this block of hours!

Frog at least managed to get a near 2000 vote difference. Kefka doesn't look like he is going to have any where near enough if Fenix is competent with the day vote.

Fenix doesn't have to be like KH with his day-vote. If Fenix is half of MC or similar to either Hayabusa or even HK-47 (he barely lost the day-vote to Sora)...hell, if he's simply better than Wesker (who went "wire to wire" with Kefka in a 72-28 match), then Kefka's going to be in for a scare.

I'm curious if FF6a might keep Kefka from doing so bad with the day-vote though.....

It's not like FF6 isn't easily one of the site's favorite games. The problem has never been in the game's popularity - it's just that for all the love the game gets, people just don't want to vote for its characters for whatever reason. I kind of suspect FF6 benefits a bit more from franchise voting than some are willing to admit, but it's all speculation.

Adept of Aiur | Posted 9/7/2007 1:12:30 AM | message detail
That still shouldn't make it one of the top 10 strongest games on the site. If franchise voting alone could do that, every Final Fantasy would have killed in the games contest, even the first one. And didn't Final Fantasy lose the series contest?

Karma Hunter | Posted 9/7/2007 1:17:38 AM | message detail
I said that it benefited from franchise voting more than some admit, not that it gets the bulk of its strength from franchise voting. The original Final Fantasy was a MUCH heavier beneficiary of franchise voting, in part because it's so weak without it (and I'm seriously doubting as much of the site has really played through FF1 as they let on, if only because voters seem to prove themselves stupider with every chance they get). The fact that FF did as well as it did on Mario 3 is a clear giveaway that there was franchise voting making a big difference there - to me, anyway.

The thing with FF6 characters is that they're so many of them, and so many are likeable for different reasons that its difficult to single in on one character that will get a solid following.

And... do you remember the games contest? FF1 did respectably on Mario 3, FFT nearly beat MGS, FFX nearly beat SSBM, FF6 gave LttP a scare and FF7 won... I don't think you could expect much better from the FFs than that.

I think that FF6 gets the "respect" vote for supposedly being the "best" FF in much the same way that SMB3 does.

What Keno said, but it's also for design reasons. FF6 characters are little rectangular sprites, for one thing, plus their art is considered bland and/or ugly (according to the masses).

Too bad many can't look past that, as FF6 had one of the more better developed cast of FF characters. Its my top choice along with 9.

I really have no idea. I can see why he would be the favorite, but Kefka could easily have a lead in the 1200-1500 range by after-school. If that's the case Fenix would definitely need an above average day vote to win, and we really have no idea what his day vote will be like.

Kefka's peak against Vercetti was over 1100 votes. Yet even despite MASSIVE cheating, Vercetti - who doesn't have an exceptional day vote at all - was able to slice Kefka all the way down to nothing.

Fenix can have a merely passable day vote and Kefka would still get a scare. It's just the way Kefka rolls.

Yet, FF6 seemed to be stronger than FF10. I think FF6's strength is mostly for real. FF6 character's are so weak not ONLY because of the ensemble cast, but because their design is bland (according to the masses), and that goes for both art AND sprites (they're rectangular). Chrono Trigger, on the other hand, has none of those disadvantages.

Yeah, I guess SMB3 wasn't the best example. It's hard to separate its "pure" popularity from the historical acclaim that it gets. Still though, I think that the "respect" for those games does have some influence on its strength.

I'd agree, and it's probably the only reason why I could support dividing the gamings eras in the contest. I'd like to see how such respect and nostalgia of a game like the original FF or LoZ hold up to new-age games which WILL one day have similar respect and nostalgia like RE4.

By the hour:

Time | Kefka . . | Fenix . . | Nook . . | Zelos
01:00 | 34.69% | 33.33% | 18.94% | 13.04%
02:00 | 37.44% | 34.06% | 16.49% | 12.01%
03:00 | 37.74% | 33.94% | 16.20% | 12.12%
04:00 | 37.07% | 33.66% | 17.75% | 11.53%
05:00 | 37.86% | 32.91% | 16.67% | 12.55%
06:00 | 36.76% | 33.87% | 17.14% | 12.23%

A 3-4% advantage during his best time probably isn't going to be enough. The morning vote should be starting relatively soon - if Fenix can make cuts during it, he'll be looking mighty fine to do so again once school lets out. If Kefka manages to hold on, then we might still have a match.

Zelos is my favorite character ever, but this is hardly shocking. You have to play a good portion of the game just to play as him, and he doesn't exactly appeal to everyone like a Kratos Aurion would.
