Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 459

Twilight Princess is at rougly 3.61 million worldwide on Wii alone. With GCN it beats Gears. The Wii TP number is from IGN who are far more trustworthy than VGChartz.

Mega Man 43.16% / 11.92%
KOS-MOS 18.17% / 50.43%

I knew it, I knew the people who didn't read the rules about the scoring system would have KOS-MOS in first since she was listed ahead of Mega man. Reading is fundamental! :P
Janus5000 | Posted 9/4/2007 9:10:23 PM | message detail
BOLD PREDICTION: Frog is only at 21% at the next update.

Actually, more than picking KOS-MOS first, I'm more surprised by the fact that only 55% people picked MM to move on at all. Why does he always get such horrible bracket support?

Those stats are so weird! How did 50% of the voters predict KOS-MOS to win if only ~10%* are the people who didn't read the rules?

Even if they can't read the rules regarding placement, KOS-MOS was still picked by more bracketmakers to advance than Mega Man. That's inexcusable!

According to VGChartz:

Gears of War: 4.51 million
Twilight Princess: 4.96 million

U.S. numbers. GC not included.

What sense does it make not to include the Gamecube sales? Those people still played the game.

I'm really thinking that the correct/partial percentages are based on the placement, not the character. ~93% picking Mega Man, and ~30% picking KOS-MOS to advance makes a LOT more sense than the alternative.

I think people not reading the rules and being confused is totally understandable, that's what happened to me. I didn't realize that it was 4-way or that we had to pick both 1 and 2 until I read the board; I filled the bracket out like normal the first time, though I was confused. I thought maybe the new bracket script was just weird.

So many people getting screwed over by the rules is not surprising, this was talked about beforehand. You pretty much had to read the board to know what was going on (even most people - not everyone, but most - on the board probably didn't read the actual rules, just found out through others talking about it).

Mega Man's partial % is wrong though.

this. though if this is a delayed day vote, we might actually see him rise some. I think he'll be okay, but... Frog or KOS-MOS? Frog might not break 20% on far weaker competition.

18.17% had KOS-MOS second / 50.43% had Mega Man second

God damn, a lot of brackets are just going to die because nobody bothered to read the rules. This actually works out for me, I read the rules and I will at least go over a lot of no-read-the-rules brackets.

Kerrigan finally gets her Brood War box art picture that so many users have been asking for to determine her true strength. I expect everyone to go "but she was up against a Noble Niner and two Square-Enix characters so we don't know how she would have done!".

Oh come on. Obviously it wasn't hard or anything - but it was certainly only semi-likely that someone would think about it. They'd probably make as assumption about how it worked and not bother to think twice about it.

Possible, but I think that brat Axel is going to screw it up with the KH day vote

I would personally place Frog and Axel safely above KOS-MOS and Diablo... it's Kerrigan that makes things wonky, as she *really* doesn't warrant much of the vote. But considering the hardcore nature of SC and her iconic, she had a definite floor in this format.
