It's not Vaan doesn't hurt Rikku, it's Vaan hurts Rikku the least because most Rikku voters like Rikku more Vaan. I highly disagree with that statement. SFF is not like a 10:1 one-sided thing. Usually SFF results from, say, a 60/40 result to a 70/30 result. It's noticeable, but it actually isn't massive. So, if you take away the one-sidedness of the SFF, we'd probably be seeing Vaan with 13% and Rikku with 24% (I don't think that's too far off). I'm quite sure if you took Vaan away from there, Rikku would get the majority of that 13%, or at least much more than 3%. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! That doesn't really make sense. You're saying if it was a three-way
poll it would be Yoshi > Rikku > Knuckles but if a fourth
character was added, Knuckles would overtake Rikku. Unless the new
character was biased towards hurting Rikku over Knuckles, I don't see
why Rikku would be hurt more than Knuckles. Short version: SFF in the classic sense helps Rikku...SFF she wouldn't get if Vaan was replaced with a character with the same strength but no overlapped fanbase. This bonus to Rikku could potentially be greater than the damage done by Vaan's presence in the poll. The extreme example brought up earlier was Cloud vs. Link vs. Ganon.
Ganon would obviously get almost nothing here, not only does he lose
the Zelda votes to Link, but he loses the anti-Link votes (from his
match with Link) to Cloud. However, the votes that he does get will be primarily siphoned away from Link. There are two potential voting groups here, Ganon>Link>Cloud voters and Ganon>Cloud>Link voters. Which of those do you think would be more prevalent? I'm going with the former by a landslide. Compared to a neutral character that hurts both Link and Cloud the same (or proportionally), this would definitely be more favorable to Cloud. I really don't see how you could ever have a situation where SFF is favorable in this setup. Link would get a better percentage with Ganon in there compared to the other character, but he would not do better against Cloud with Ganon in there. |

hmm, two minute-in thoughts: Mega Man, he with the fantastic board vote, is sucking in my eyes. KOS has a good night vote and a poor day vote; Diablo, the other way around. KOS probably goes up from here while Diablo will drop a little. and after I typed that, it looks like Mega Man's bouncing back. I expected 50%, and he looks like he may get that still. I think obvious favourites are going to get anti-voted in this format early, by people who are well-aware of the contest. think of it as bracket voting, I guess. --- "where the heck does diablo get his votes from on weekends?
