I think Amaterasu will do better than Little Mac. Nice. A very weak Fox still beats an inflated Wario. Good find! Mwahahaha... actually, Fox was adjusted up while Wario was adjusted DOWN. =P I set Cloud '02 to 42% on BL (a little high, possibly, who knows?), while I measured Wario from Shadow 2K4 (the 20XX adjusted version, of course). Finally, those numbers don't represent the strength that they are ACTUALLY at. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" Matt probably wouldn't do any better, but I don't think Mac would do
that well any more either. It's only a one point match though. Given
everything else, it won't make or break any brackets. ~~~ Ashe. The Cream of Final Fantasy Fanboyism. http://www.board8wiki.com/Lady_Ashe |

From Lady Ashe Posted 8/25/2007 6:51:05 PM #142 Funny, didn't realize that was why I said that. Oh well, I'm sure you're right. Given you've more than once said you've never heard of it before this contest, it's a fair assumption. I do agree that it's being overrated, though; this site has gotten a lot younger. I actually think Amaterasu has the inside track for second place there. ~*ST*~ --- Petition for a system notification when a contribution is removed: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=37308859 |

Since people may have played Punch-Out!! years after it came out
too, I think the cut-off for people who are likely to have played it is
the 26-30 bracket. 1984? Where are you getting that? 1987 and 1990 are the dates GameFAQs has for the two versions. But even assuming it came out in 1984, that's kind of an absurd thing to say. You basically just had to be in a position to play an NES to get your hands on this game. Used games, man! Anyone up to the 16-18 (18-20 to play it safe) age range is fair game for me to be a likely enough candidate to have played it. And there was also Super Punch Out, for the SNES, don't forget that. --- "GUYS I JUST DRANK A MASTER CHIEF SODA, MASTER CHIEF FOR 2007!" - Swirldude |

Whoops, I took the arcade game date, sorry (that's what I get for not reading the full sentence in the Wiki article <<). But even assuming it came out in 1984, that's kind of an absurd thing to say. Anyone up to the 16-18 (18-20 to play it safe) age range is fair game for me to be a likely enough candidate to have played it. Aside from eBay, you can't even find copies of NES games lately. And honestly, how many 16-18 year olds are going to be playing NES games? Maybe a few, but the vast majority are happy with Halo 2 (and soon Halo 3), FFXII, Bioshock, whatever. Even playing games from the late 90s can be painful for the young'uns because the crappy graphics make their sensitive eyes bleed. And there was also Super Punch Out, for the SNES, don't forget that. I wouldn't be so sure of Tommy Vercetti beating Ness had he been the
star of GTA:SA instead of GTA:VC, considering Ness post-Nintendo boost
might be stronger than DK pre-Nintendo boost (when he faced
Vercetti).... and if you get nitpicky about numbers, that might seem
nearly impossible (Ness at 25% on BL?!), but you know, the numbers
could be off a bit. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Aside from eBay, you can't even find copies of NES games lately. And
honestly, how many 16-18 year olds are going to be playing NES games? Lately, no, it's not easy at all. 10 years ago, when these 16-18 year olds were 6-8? Absolutely you could, at any store that'd sell used games, really. Now, I'll admit, the SNES and Genesis (PS and the N64 were also out, but I'd still say SNES and Genesis had more of a fanbase, especially for young kids) were the big things of the time, but NES play was definitely not completely unheard of back then. Now, I admit, 18-20 would be more reasonable, and 21-25 is the best range. The latter being about 15 years ago when they were 6-10, which was about when the game was still fresh. I'm just saying don't underestimate the play potential the Punch-Out! series has. --- "GUYS I JUST DRANK A MASTER CHIEF SODA, MASTER CHIEF FOR 2007!" - Swirldude |

Punch-Out!! was released in 1984. Assuming the minimum age of
someone playing it to be 6 yrs old (sounds reasonable to me), the
youngest gamers when it first came out would be over thirty now. Since
people may have played Punch-Out!! years after it came out too, I think
the cut-off for people who are likely to have played it is the 26-30
bracket. What??? You can't be seriously using the release date as a cutoff reference. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was popular for years on the NES. Then it was re-released with Mr. Dream replacing Mike Tyson in 1990, giving more people a chance to play it. My little brother was born in 1992 and he knows very well what Punch Out is and who Little Mac is. Not to mention there's emulation. Naturally. Link's gotten stronger since 2002. But it's not like there
wasn't an overlap there, too. Not saying there was any crazy SFF or
anything, though. The absolute bare minimum that you can say from
Little Mac is that he managed 15% on Link, regardless of when it
happened. That's much more impressive than being a random Mii (which
isn't even much of joke) or the main character from Okami. There's no
other major Nintendo character here to potentially cause problems
either. And with Punch-Out!! being on the Virtual Console, it's not like gamers haven't had a chance to play it recently. --- Who Dares Wins |
