I'm stuck on Isaac/Tidus/Serge/Pikachu. Isaac was weak in 2003, when his games were recent. He isn't a threat. Pikachu's best showing has him at 15% vs. BL. Pokemon hate has died down, but I don't think Pikachu hate has as much. People vote for Tidus because he's from FF, not because they like him. How well will he do in a multi-poll like this? And Serge. Just how popular is CC, anyway? --- ...You know what would make this fight even better? If it had the Beetleborgs. And Godzilla.- SEP |

The poll wasn't that long ago: Still doesn't mean anything. That voter pool is completly different from what we'll see in a match up of characters from multiple fanbases. --- It's a sad fact that you had to derail this topic because you are afraid of the power of the PS3 -- cade |

Auron/Shadow/Ryu/Bowser is blowing my mind. It's been discussed a ton already, I know, but here's what I've got: lol x-stats say: ------------------- - Auron '06 > Bowser '06 = Ryu '06 > Shadow '04 - Sonic has increased slightly from '04 to '06 - Knuckles increased significantly from '04 to '05 Contest polls say: ------------------------- - Crono vs. Auron '06: 55/45 - Crono vs. Bowser '06: 57/43 - Bowser vs. Ryu '05: 59/41 - Tidus vs. Shadow '04: 51/49 Intangibles: ---------------- Auron advantage: Only Square character in the poll Bowser advantage: Only Nintendo character in the poll Multi-option polls say: ------------------------------ - Favorite FFX character '02: Auron 40%, Tidus 14% - Favorite Mario character '06: Yoshi 27%, Mario 23%, Luigi 17%, Bowser 11% - Favorite SF character '02: Ryu 35%, Ken 15% - Favorite Sonic character '01: Knuckles 31%, Sonic 25%, Shadow 20% Conclusions: ------------------ 1. Auron will get first place. He's more popular straight-up and has very strong fanbase - that poll was taken pre-KH. 2. There is reason to worry about Ryu with Bowser in the poll; x-stats say they're equal, but Bowser dominated in their match. 3. Bowser's core fanbase is probably the softest of the four, which means he is the most likely to see a significant drop in a four-way poll 4. ...However, perhaps Ryu's weakness to Bowser could make up for Bowser's hardcore fan weakness, especially since he faces no Nintendo opposition. 5. Shadow was unimpressive in his last appearance. 6. ...However, Shadow's last appearance is old, and he may have bounced since, considering both Sonic and Knuckles have done better since '04 according to lol x-stats 7. ...And if Bowser and Ryu get about an even split, Shadow could sneak in. smitelf's analysis is very good. I think Sonic has increased more than
"slightly".. it's just that it's hard to go up entire percentage points
when you're already that strong. but yeah, I'd look at Knuckles before
Sonic. plus, Shadow's had his own game and has been more of a focus in
recent years than Knuckles.granted, his game sucked, but from what I
hear it doesn't carry over to his character. it's just poor game
mechanics. Shadow is still as "cool" as he ever was. still think he finishes an easy fourth, though. --- xexyz |

Chrono Cross isn't that unknown, though. It has Crono in the name. And the only other pack I'm having trouble with currently is Squall/Aeris/Sora/shmuck. I originally had Squall>Sora, then thought that might be stupid due to how Aeris handled Sora in 2003, then plugged in Sora 2006 vs. Tifa 1005 for reference. Sora (2006c) has a strength of 35.13 against Base Link. Tifa (2005c) has a strength of 33.57 against Base Link. Sora wins with 52.22% of the vote! ...Is Tifa stronger or weaker than Aeris? --- ...You know what would make this fight even better? If it had the Beetleborgs. And Godzilla.- SEP |

So 2006 Sora beats the most legitimate incarnation of Tifa, who may be
stronger than Aeris. This is without factoring in how Squall's presence

Still catching up, responding to posts as I go: Honestly, we saw how much Yoshi's "dedicated fanbase" meant when he faced Mega Man. And if such things matter so much, why aren't more people taking Mega Man > Yoshi > Knuckles? Just because people are more vocal here about that order doesn't mean there aren't plenty taking Yoshi over Knux twice. Mega Man sffing Yoshi two years ago is one thing, but being able to dominate Yoshi when there's two other options is another thing entirely. And before anyone says anything about Samus' position in the 2k6 stats being even remotely justified (at least as far as the lol x machine goes), Snake's dead even with Mario 2k5 based on that. Alright, for the sake of sanity I'll assume Sora and Aeris are equal. There are two other options in the poll. Lara Croft? Isn't going to do anything to anyone. Completely different fanbase. Squall...is. I have a feeling he SFFs Aeris more. They're both PS1 FFs, and Sora isn't even in the FF series (as much as KH is a FF-fest). --- ...You know what would make this fight even better?
