I'm jumping ship over Vyse > Nightmare. Few things can muster up
hardcore, devoted followings quite like cult RPGs. It's the reason I

I think Nightmare will need more than the devoted Soul Calibur fans to
get him through, and he won't find it while sharing a poll with one of
the most popular and universally loved characters on the site. When
rummaging for Snake's leftovers, I'll trust the RPG fans over the

Is it bad to have Pikachu going to the Sweet 16? He's the only Nintendo character in both his matches, and I see that as enough to get him second both times. And am I the only one who sees Luigi/Gdorf SFF going strongly towards Luigi? I don't see Gdorf getting the better of him. Division 7: Kirby L-Block Laharl Nathan Hale My initial thoughts….L-Block?.....L-Block?!!! What the hell are you doing here?! And why is it plausible that you can come in second! Seriously that is a disturbing thought. You know what though. I’m starting to believe it. Screw it, right now, I’m changing from Laharl to L-Block >_> also, Nathan Hale has the potential to be the next Tanner. Yay for Kirby getting a high percentage I hope. Winners: Kirby, L-Block Donkey Kong Kratos Marth Prince of All Cosmos This match took me one sec to think about, considering Marth is in it and DK just does poorly a lot of the time. But then I was like come on, the only thing Marth has going for him is Melee. Kratos will have to put up quite a show if I can believe him to go any farther than round 3 however. He’s got this in the bag though. Winners: Kratos, Donkey Kong Nightmare Rayman Solid Snake Vyse Like I said earlier, Nightmare can hang on the coattails of Soul Calibur 4 and Legends hype that has been presented lately. Plus, it’s not like Vyse is gonna get some kind of boost any time soon, and Rayman is basically a joke. Nightmare getting second place here shouldn’t be so hard to believe. And I don’t believe this “action character SFF” nonsense. I’d love to see Snake get about 70% here though. Winners: Solid Snake, Nightmare Haseo Riku Roxas Ryu Hayabusa A .hack character makes the contest again? Wow…yeah so I sort of debated this one a little bit to see who the Kingdom Hearts fanbase really prefers, but then I realized sticking with Riku just makes the most sense. I’m pretty sure Ryu Hayubusa can edge him out just a little though. Plus things might be a bit wacky with two KH chars in one poll anyways. I’ll be surprised if Haseo pulls in virtually any votes >_> Winners: Ryu Hayubusa, Riku. Kirby L-Block Kratos Donkey Kong I still can’t get over the fact that L-Block can possibly be in this fourpack, but whatever. The real question here is whether or not Kratos can outshine Kirby. For now I’ll have faith in Kratos however. Winners: Kratos, Kirby Snake Nightmare Ryu Hayubusa Riku Snake will just flat out destroy these three and make them all look weak. This can easily show whether or not Snake has enough steam to take down Cloud in the Final Rounds. Ryu Hayubusa will scrap his way through. Winners: Snake, Ryu H Kratos Kirby Snake Ryu Hayubusa Once again I have Kratos getting through here…can God of War 2 really be that powerful? But at the same time, Kirby doesn’t have much of a reason to boost either other than riding the Nintendo coattails. Kratos is probably a damn good pick here, but Kirby still has the potential to bust some brackets. Keep an eye on this one. Division 1 Knuckles the Echidna Rikku Vaan Yoshi I hate that order matters...all well. Yoshi and Knuckles are going to keep it close for awhile, but Yoshi will pull away and win and Knuckles will keep a solid 2nd place. Rikku is strong, sure, but not strong enough to topple Knuckles. Rikku being without anything new since FFX is really hurting her, I think you can expect Rikku (as well as Tidus, Yuna, and Auron) to slowly start declining like we have seen Crono do. The fanbase remains loyal for now, but as the years go on, they'll just decline until there is nothing left. And Vaan, even while being from the extremely popular FFXII, won't be strong enough to topple Knuckles. However, I do believe Vaan will get 3rd place, but not as strong as it would have otherwise been due to SFF with Rikku. Arthas Menethil Diablo KOS-MOS Mega Man We all know Mega Man wins, without a doubt. But the real match here is Diablo vs. KOS-MOS. This seems to be a lot more contested then last years KOS-MOS vs. Amy Rose (which I have no idea why it was contested in the first place to be quite honest, lol @ Amy), and I can easily see why seeing as how strong Diablo was in the villians contest. However, Diablo still has yet to receive any new games in a long time, and even though it is the same for KOS-MOS, her games are a lot fresher in some peoples memory. Diablo 2 is still a very popular game, but I just don't think it is enough for Diablo to still continue being a force in these contests. Also, the fact Diablo has SFF with Arthas won't be helping him in this match either - I think we can expect a first round exit for him. Axel Frog Samus Aran Sarah Kerrigan Just like the last match, we get to see Samus have an uncontested victory over the rest of the pack this time around. However, her opponent in Frog is a bit stronger then Diablo and KOS-MOS...even though Frog tends to fluctuate way too much to pin his real strength down, he is definitely stronger then Axel (who performed much weaker then he was expected to be last year) and Kerrigan (lol) and should expect a free ride to the second round. Sure, Axel is from Kingdom Hearts and is one of the more popular characters from a very popular series, but he just doesn't seem to be able to pull in the votes. I think that this is a continuing trend - popular characters that aren't main characters just don't do as well in polls, even if they are very popular. I believe this trend will be a factor with Edgeworth, Meta Knight, and Jade later on, but we'll just have to wait until their matches, right? This doesn't seem to apply to villians though, for whatever reason...good for Sephiroth and Ridley, I guess. Agent 47 Kratos Aurion Midna Scorpion Midna is a brand new, untested character, but that doesn't mean she's bad...Midna will sweep (though I don't know how easily) this fourpack. Scorpion will do pretty good though, being roughly as popular as Sub-Zero (who upset Master Chief this year, but I'm expecting better things for MC this year), so he should do pretty well. Sadly, Kratos and Agent 47 are just fodder here, but I hope Kratos holds his own. But the additions of powerful new characters into the roster this year - Balthier, Midna, and Ike, mainly - will be interesting to watch and see how far they get into their respective divisions. That's the one compelling argument Vyse has. I think the characters
with the core fanbase will thrive here. It's made me think about the
match a bit, but at the end of the day, when it comes down to who's
likely to have more votes at the end, I'd say it's Nightmare. I've
always been one of his detractors when it comes to these contests, and
couldn't for the life of me understand why people thought he'd be huge
in these contests, but I think he's got enough to get by someone like
Vyse. I wouldn't be floored if he didn't, though. --- Believe |

Division 1, Continued Yoshi Knuckles the Echidna Mega Man KOS-MOS Mega Man gets another easy win! Too bad KOS-MOS has to go out so early, but I guess thats just part of life (she got past 1 round! ^_^). Knuckles and Yoshi will stay close for a little, but like their first match, Yoshi will pull ahead of Knuckles and take 2nd place. Mega Man and Yoshi will then get a free ride into the division finals, where there will be much celebration, cake, and cheap booze. Samus Aran Frog Midna Scorpion Metroid Prime 3 will lead Samus to get around 99% on everyone else, and Midna will get 2nd place with 5 votes while Frog and Scorpion tie at 3 votes each. More seriously, Midna might do pretty decently on Samus due to her history of giving every Nintendo character she's ever come in contact with free votes, but she'll still win pretty easily. Midna will come in at a solid second, while Frog and Scorpion duel it out for 3rd place. Frog will end up tying Scorpion in a close match, leading to the collapse of the GameFAQs server and the contest ending forever. All well. Mega Man Yoshi Samus Midna Mega Man continues his streak of victories (and fighting female robots), but he takes second place this time in an incredibly close match with Samus. The only reason its an incredibly close match is because Samus ends up splitting the votes with 2 other Nintendo characters (yay SFF fest), but she'll end up edging out Mega Man anyway. Midna beats Yoshi for 3rd place, but it doesn't really matter because 3rd place is useless :/. Midna will definitely be more respected after this though - it seems like people tend to underestimate characters that have never been in a contest before simply because of that fact, even though they come from popular games and are popular characters from that series. :/ Oh, If you want control of my signature, nominate KOS-MOS. Division 8: Aeris Gainsborough Akuma Geno Squall Leonhart This is make or break for Akuma here. He’s caught between a frenzy of Square characters. Sure Geno will get slaughtered, but how will Akuma fair against a juggernaut like Squall? One may think that Aeris will suffer SFF heat from Squall as well, as she wasn’t exactly stellar in the female bracket last year. Something tells me Akuma is going to disappoint though. I sure hope he doesn’t, but that’s what I see happening. Winners: Squall, Aeris Albert Wesker Daxter Lara Croft Sora I hate this fourpack. I really want to pick Wesker, but then I realize Wesker lost to Lloyd Irving and got DESTROYED by Kefka. I’m not picking Daxter what so ever, and I have never trusted Lara Croft. I’m on the fence here. Winners: Sora, Croft/Wesker. Screw it, I’ll go with Croft just to make sure I don’t feel so screwed when I pick Wesker and he gets owned. Duke Nukem Ike Gordon Freeman Guybrush Threepwood And we all through Gordon Freeman was done winning….>_> he is going to destroy Nukem and Guybrush. It’s almost like Gordon is finally catching a damn break from GameFAQs or something. Ike can totally pull off second place easily with the SSBB hype he’s got going for him. Winners: Gordon Freeman, Ike Sonic the Hedgehog Sub-Zero Prince of Persia Viewtiful Joe Sonic and Subby are locks here, and Joe losing fairly badly is also pretty assured, but Prince of Persia’s performance is unknown. Will he be beating Subs anytime soon? Doubtful, but will he at least make a mark on him? It’s plausible. Winners: Sonic, Sub-Zero Squall Aeris Sora Lara Woo, Square Triple Threat! Not too shabby! Sora and Squall will throw Aeris’ chances away soon enough, and then Squall will own Sora like he owned him in Tranverse Town. The SFF will of course go in his favor. Vincent/Squall is all you need to know. Damned close duel. This duel however will not be so close. Winners: Squall, Sora Gordon Ike Sonic Sub-Zero Sonic and Subs will make short work of these two here. I guess Sub-Zero/Gordon has potential to be a good matchup, but I just don’t see him being able to muster enough strength to beat Sub-Zero after Sub’s fantastic performance last year. Final Rounds: Samus Mega Man Cloud Bowser I’ve got a lot of faith in Bowser here, but I think MP3 will allow Samus to outclass him very well. Mega Man will be taken out of contention of winning anything in this match fairly early, and it’ll just become a competition between Bowser, Samus, and Cloud. Samus will eventually be able to SFF Bowser decently, and Cloud will just wreak havoc. Keep Mario/Samus and Samus/Nidoran F in mind though…but then again there is also Samus/Ganon to consider. This match up is somewhat interesting alright. Winners: Cloud, Samus Mario Sephiroth Link Crono Crono will be exposed and destroyed as early as Mega Man is, and it’ll appear to be anyone’s game between Sephiroth and Mario in the day. Mario will strike with a surge of votes(aww yeah Super Mario Galaxy factor), not suffer too much SFF from Link, and outlast the Sephster. Winner: Link, Mario Ganondorf Luigi Leon Dante I expect Leon and Ganondorf to battle their SFF counterparts and come through here. However this match is truly anyone’s game. I’m probably going to keep my Leon > Dante pick here forever, but I’ll probably frantically switch between Ganondorf and Luigi all the time before the brackets are due. Winners: Ganondorf, Leon Snake Kratos Sonic Squall This is it. This is what decides Kratos’ worth to me. If he can break through the Noble 9 by hitting up what I think is the third weakest link, Sonic. Something tells me he can’t, and neither can Squall. I will be highly impressed if one of them does manage it however. Kratos or Squall > Sonic is a great upset pick, but I’m playing it safe this contest for now. Winners: Snake, Sonic Cloud Samus Link Mario This will just react the Battle Royale a little bit, with Cloud and Link dominating the majority of the time. Then again, there is the MP3 and SMG factors here. Still, I have a feeling Samus and Mario will be preoccupied with each other while Link and Cloud will do what they do best and destroy their opponents. Winners: Link, Cloud Ganondorf Leon Snake Sonic Once again, another great time to break Sonic, this time in the form of Ganon and Leon! >_> Ok seriously though, I’m not HM. I’m not gonna be taking Ganon > Sonic anytime soon. And if Sonic can beat Kratos, he can beat Leon just the same way. Winners: Snake, Sonic Link Cloud Snake Sonic This is what will make or break the contest for me, and that’s just the way I like it. Link will of course win, that is to be certain, especially with Phantom Hourglass coming out around this time I believe. But I’m taking the biggest upset pick of my contest career and having Snake overcome Cloud. Ok maybe that is an HM-esque move, but damnit it just sounds good at this current juncture. And he did damn good in that Battle Royale last year. What’s Cloud got this year? Absolutely nothing. That said, I can't help but feel like Bowser is going to hurt Ryu like 2k5 again Oh, Bowser would hurt Mewtwo much worse than he could ever hurt Ryu. I don't know why you think Ryu will be more affected than Mewtwo. Sure, Pokemon's come a long way from 2004, but I don't see Mewtwo surviving a triple Nintendo SFF-fest. --- What now, Merril Hoge? |

round yet outlast him against Mega Man to reach the Sweet Sixteen?

Why would Snake do any better this year? If nothing else, he'd do

That was my reasoning, though times change and Yoshi is sort of beastly now. He's perhaps THE most overrated character from last year. He's got a notable win against Dante now at least, but Dante's positioning had been suspect from the previous year and Yoshi had a decisive picture advantage in that match.
