Kratos > Zero aww yeah And, ideally, I think the best bracket is similar to what we had in 2005 -- Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth in a separate bracket, and then everyone else in the main one. hmm.. I expect a pretty good Kratos boost this year and somewhat a Zero
drop; or at least him staying constant. either way, I'd feel pretty

I plan to take Kratos over Kirby if such a match goes down, but I don't
know if I'd take him any higher. The GoW2/DMC2-to-Kratos/Dante
comparisons say I shouldn't be afraid to take him over Luigi, but I'm
not going to follow that formula so blindly. It's plenty possible
though, since it was also impressive of GoW to nearly match DMC in the
series-poll not long ago when it's only had two games compared to DMC's
three plus a special edition version and the new package of all three

I'd be extremely wary about using DMC/DMC2 to back up a Kratos boost,
because of when our DMC data comes from. Crono/Dante happened in the
second round of 2k2 and had just short of 66k votes. The first two
rounds of 2k2 are, I think, rather unreliable - we also got DK/Aya,
Tidus/Claire, and Sonic/Tidus, to name the strangest. A year later,
Ryu/Dante had just short of 95k votes, and Dante was considerably more

Fair enough, and I'll also even throw in that there might have been Link/Mario SFF and/or
Crono may have been royally screwed out from the championship, both of
which would raise Dante's 2k2 value and make his jump to 2k3 smaller. That said, GoW2 is still being better-received than GoW and GoW2 is much more important to its series than DMC2 is. GoW2 is also probably the biggest game released so far this year. It's hard to deny Kratos of having real high potential this year, even if the DMC1/2 comparison is shady. --- PETITION: a "Contest Suggestions" board. yeah, I'm wary of any 2k2-related stat argument as well. also, I'm wary of Kratos's 2k6 value given that I still don't trust Mega Man's division. everything just looks too high for me. don't care to make an argument, though. --- xyzzy "hello." -neonreaper |

I wouldn't be surprised if 2K2's stats were actually more useful for
its time than the 2K6 stats are for these days... =P Not like we could

Yeah, Kratos is definitely rising, but I'm giving Dante the definite
nod after seeing DMC keep ahead of GoW in the multi-poll (as dubious as
that may be...). I certainly don't think he takes Zero in 2k6, mostly
due to their closeness being dependent on 1.) Sonic and Mega Man being
nearly equal and 2.) no underrating of Zero, despite the fact that
Sonic/Luigi and even Luigi/Zero itself was potentially "weird". After
GoW2, sure, it's possible and perhaps even likely... ...but that just depends on how you're measuring Kratos. Is he beating Ryu next year? Who would you pick in Ryu/Zero? Ryu/Kirby? Ryu/Luigi? I'm putting a LOT of confidence into Kratos and I'd pick him over Kirby and maybe even Luigi if I get the chance... but I hardly think I'm the norm. --- "TIME TO _____ THEN." - Karma Hunter, ABSENT 8 Commit it to memory. |

after some examination, last year's stats seem so skewed.. Yoshi's

With Bowser bombing against Crono, Yoshi massively overperforming on
Snake for what are most likely a myriad of reasons, and Mega Man doing
worse on Ryu than Bowser did in 2k5 (not to mention probably being
overrated himself)... that's to be expected. Last year's stats aren't useless... you just have to read between the lines, use more interpretation and subjectivity. For some, sure, but really, just ask yourself about characters you just
mentioned. Yoshi - overrated or underrated? Ryu? Bowser? The answer to
all of those and more range from fairly clear to obvious where I'm
standing, it's the extent that's the issue... and with X-Stats being
merely a guideline to begin with, that's not as big a deal as many make

I hope you weren't referring to me, KH, as I wasn't making a big deal
out of the stats. I was merely stating that the 2K2's stats might be
better than 2K6's, mainly because of the mess Samus created in SC2K6.
But, I have my opinions on all of her matches. Just like the theories
on anomlies on Vincent/Crono, Zero/Mario, and Kirby/Bowser fell flat
last year... it'll be interesting to see what theories go wrong (or end
up correct) during this contest. At the very least I won't deny that
the stat interpretations are the most complicated we've had (excluding
SC2K2, but we had no way to determine anything prior to SC2K3's start).
As for Samus' true strength, I'm guessing she only changed in strength
marginally (at best, a percent growth on BL perhaps) since we last had
a good idea on her in 2K4, and to support that a bit, her 2K4 plugged
into her 2K5 matches (save against Mario, of course) fits well, leaving

I wasn't really referring to anyone in particular. It's worth noting
that some of what you referred to is still up to debate, though. I still ponder if Vincent/Crono was actually an anomaly - "covered up", if you will, by a big Vincent DoC boost, Dante being overrated (through Yoshi), Squall getting some help from KH2. The support, of course, is Terra (and of course Kerrigan) showing her "true" weakness against Zelda rather than being overperformed on or whatever. I'd be inclined to say that Kirby/Bowser *was* anomalous, at least so far as to say Bowser should have done better seeing as how Luigi did (unless you're inclined to put Luigi higher than Bowser, but that's a different theory for future contests to resolve). The bigger anomaly of course was Snake/Bowser, which people suspected just as much and never really came as a surprise (which is why people gloating when the theory was validated seemed... odd - not one to talk about that, though!). Of course, Zero being underrated through Mario is pretty much out the window at this point, unless he suffered the same thing through Luigi. <.< Still something to think about. I agree with the overall point, though. For all my conviction, it may turn out that Mega Man and Sonic were dead even last year and that Crono is truly bringing up the rear of the nobles (I sorely doubt it, though). Or that Zelda could break half the Noble Nine next contest (see prior statement). And maybe Sora's got the stuff to beat Auron against all reason (et cetera). --- Snake > Link is totally happening though! Commit it to memory. |

Or for all we know, Ryu would beat Luigi. Though that's impossible, I SWEAR! Okay, it's crossed my mind slightly about the Devil Division still being fishy still, as well... not much, though. In order for Snake/Squall to argue for that, you must assume Sonic/Snake was off. I guess Squall's 36% placement is one reason I like the Snake/Sonic = accurate idea. And, Dante beat Ryu H worse than Zero did... but Riku being at 30% on BL -does- seem strange, yes. But, Terra/Zelda was almost surely an anomaly... hrm, but if you adjust Dante down to 30% on BL... that would place Zelda at...40% on BL. At the very least, that coincides with Zelda being inbetween Snake and Sonic... heh. Yeah, right. Kinda fun to think about, though. (Aeris, Yuna, and Ganondorf are massive holes in that idea...) Digging back in my memory banks, what I thought about more was not about Vincent overperforming on Crono, but Squall overperforming on Vincent... again, not a lot to support that, aside from Knuckles and Squall seeming to get unlikely-sized boosts for little reason. I'd argue that Bowser and Kirby was accurate, as measuring Kirby through Tidus '04 predicts Kirby/Bowser almost perfectly. But, not that it's decisive or anything (I shouldn't have said it was "proven wrong"). I just think it makes more sense for Kirby to have dropped a little in SC2K6 or something. --- "Ah, a party! I love that the stats are completely junked up, of course the annoying
part is going to be the ridiculous amount of times we're going to have
to hear "lol x-stats" during the next contest, but it was going to
happen either way. This is the first time I've ever made any kind of x-stats of my own for a contest, and it's because my beliefs differed so much from creative, it wasn't even worth just looking at his and changing things around mentally like I usually do. In other news, PS3 ownership is up a piddling 1.42% since June, to a
grand total of 13.94% of the site. That's slightly more than the
percentage of users who admitted to owning a Virtual Boy in 2004. The
increase is actually a percent less than the number of people who said
they bought one after the price cut, oddly enough. As a comparison, six

I was about to come in here and object to RPG's use of the term
"piddling" to describe the PS3's 1.42% ownership jump over the past 45
days, since that isn't such a long time after all and you can't expect
miracles without the release of a killer app, but then I saw the
numbers for today. At first I thought it was just a Power Hour glitch
that would fix itself later into the night, but I was wrong... the Wii
is up to 51.15% ownership, a jump of 4.22%
over those same 45 days. So much for needing killer apps to eat up huge
chunks of the gamer population- even with nothing new except the third
release of RE4, the console somehow continues picking up new owners at
a faster rate every month. Here's hoping we get a DS poll tomorrow or the next day; the last number we have (59%) is over 3 months old now, so that's going to be a gigantic leap. --- thengamer.com/xstats = lol x-stats Still smarting from the beatdown Rufus applied in the Guru Contest! |

Probably post-Halo 3, I'd say. The 360 is the one next-gen system I'd
consider getting at the moment, but keeping in mind the problems that
have cropped up with the hardware (even with the retroactive warranty)

Yeah, that was the main reason why I waited until the Elite was
released. And even then, the jury is still out on their reliability
since they don't have the 65nm chipset and other stuff that everyone is
anticipating. But after a while, the swing of balance between waiting
for the right time to buy one and what I was missing out on warranted

I was about to come in here and object to RPG's use of the term

days, I actually meant to change that (when I wrote that, the last Got PS3? poll I found was from April and the numbers weren't very different), but I, uh, forgot. s/piddling/middling/...gotta keep the same construct, at least. And the 360 is doing quite a bit better than the XBox was at this point in its life on this site, and the original ended up at 42% ownership. It looks like the last poll for the 360 was way back in December, at 36.17%, so it might have eclipsed its predecessor already. Oh, nevermind, there was a "Microsoft ownership" poll in June that had
the 360 at 36.90% (ouch) and the original at 43.89%. For some odd
reason, it's listed 10 polls behind the Nintendo and Sony ones of the
