Actually this contest I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Kratos go
neck and neck with Dante, I'd still take Dante, but give Kratos a 3%
boost from GoW2, and I think that's a fair amount considering it's only
his second game, and it was an absolute hit, granted it could be less,
and he's only 1.5% lower than Dante. So yeah, Kratos pretty much is

We'll see. I expect Kratos to go places, and I love GoW2 from the small
bit I've played of it, but I'm just not so sure to put so much stock in

Well it's pretty much just like GoW, and we see how well that's done
for him. Simply doubling his sales last year set him boosting crazy
like, an entirely new game selling more than 600K copies (the amount he
gained between 2K5 and 2K6 for GoW sales), and I don't see why he

Kratos is going to increase in strength noticeably for the next few
years. GoWII will obviously help him reach new heights this year, but I
see it helping him into 2008 and beyond. Much like with the original
game, I expect it to sell another few hundred thousand copies as soon
as it becomes a Greatest Hits title (which should fall right in between
the next two Character Battles). That, coupled with GoW for the PSP,

Actually, now that we're talking about it, do you have lifetime sales
numbers for GoW2, HM? I know it sold over 800K in March, which was a
whole half a month, and IIRC GoW only sold 1.2 million or so, so yeah,

yeah, Wario's not going to compete with those guys. he might beat Ness,
but Kratos is a whole nother step up. he might compete with POP, but

I'd be fine with just MM/Crono/Sonic in the main bracket, since it
should still be very tight between each of them, and I think there's
realistic potential for a couple the near-Elites to edge past MM or
Crono and break up the NN. Sonic's still probably tough to beat just
based on recent exposure, even if none of his games this past year have
sold more than a couple copies. I don't see what excitement bringing Snake back would inject into the main bracket... with nothing but a couple new trailers since last Summer he's going to be right around the same level, and we've already determined that that's a step ahead of C/MM/S, but still two steps back of Samus and the rest of the gang. Even bringing Samus back would be more worthwhile, since she's at least going to have her next generation debut under her belt in time for the long-awaited Sephiroth showdown. Continuing to remove characters like that isn't a good
idea, if you ask me. I liked it when we were taking out characters that
were a clear step above everyone else (Link, Cloud, Sephiroth), but if
we're talking about removing Snake from the main bracket when he didn't
even technically win a contest, that's getting a wee bit
ridiculous, and a clear sign we've exhausted the creativity of the
character battle. I'm sure CJayC can think of a better idea than
continuing to remove big name characters. And no, bringing back Samus isn't any more worthwhile than Snake, because if the issue at hand is that Snake is a clear step ahead of Crono/MM/Sonic, Samus is right there in that boat, because the two are just about equal. I just don't want to see Snake removed because then you have only three weakest Noble Nine characters left, which just sort of kills the whole thing for me. --- Treat your cardboard box with care. I'm not really that picky. if it was up to me, Sephiroth would still in
the main bracket, I guess. he's just wasted when you feed him to Link
and Cloud, and we haven't really seen him in play since 2004. I know
that he'd probably still own the bracket, but I'd like to at least see

I was under the impression that God of War was around 2m in sales,
about double the sequel. If that's the case, I doubt that the second
hooked in many more new people (like the sales explosion of the
original did between 2k5 and 2k6), which I think harms Kratos'
potential. In his defence, people already exposed to him might like him

They both won their brackets and entered that circle of elites in their contests, afterall. That said, though I would love to see it just be Crono/Sonic/Mega Man for competitiveness, I wouldn't like it only because of how far back their primes are and that they would be unusual reps for "champions" here. Love them to death and it's not to say one's age should represent their popularity...but they just haven't been noticed in sooooooo long. It would be awkward to see them as contest winners. None of those three have done anything widely praised since the 16-bit era, ya know. Aside from Crono in 2004, none of them have done anything truly spectacular in a contest setting, either. I know how I've been saying that Mega Man and Sonic are equal, but I
honestly think that Sonic might be a step up from Mega Man and Crono
this year. His Wii game seems to have done pretty well compared to most
of his other games in the last 5 years, whereas I highly doubt the new
Mega Man ZX game will get that kind of success. Not to mention Sonic has that Sonic/Mario crossover sports game, which should help him and his crew quite a bit in these contests. Right now I'm thinking the Noble Nine for this year will be: Link > Cloud > Sephy > Mario > Samus > Snake > Sonic > MM = Crono Which means the only good elite match we can have is MM/Crono. | I'd say it's possible that Sonic is better than Crono, if their match last year has any indication of things. Speaking of which, how the hell did that happen anyway? Crono was always a powerhouse, one of the elite members of the Noble Nine, higher than Sonic anyway. Did Sonic get stronger and Crono get weaker? |

Oh, one more thing: if Kratos boosts as much from GoW2 as Dante did
from DMC2, Kratos is able to beat Luigi. I don't know how DMC's and
GoW's sales compare, but GoW2 is arguably more favored than GoW while
DMC2 was universally less favored. Not to say Kratos > Luigi is a fact, but it's hard to ignore such facts. There's no way Wario or PoP compare with Luigi, and Alucard cannot anymore from what we've seen. --- PETITION: a "Contest Suggestions" board. I agree that Mega Man/Crono is the most ideal NN match that needs to be
set-up for this year. I wouldn't discount Crono possibly turning around
in another Sonic/Crono match, but I'd personally rather just waste
Sonic in a Sonic/Mario match. =P I think it'd be ideal to set up Mega Man in a division with the biggest NN threats, and then if Mega Man pulls out of that, he gets to face Crono. Also... I think Mario/Sephiroth or Samus/Sephiroth? SMG will be coming out around the end of the contest, right? I am thinking Cloud/Mario 2K2 all over again, but perhaps even more extreme...if the timing is right. It seems that the upset potential is higher there, but we've already seen that match twice, and we haven't seen Samus/Sephiroth since '02... --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Personally, I wouldn't take Kratos over Luigi even if GoWII somehow
sells another 500K by the time the bracket closes. Not after what Luigi

I admit that I still haven't played GoW, but Kratos lacks one thing
that Dante has, and that's good looks. No way he wins over Luigi if
Dante can't beat Yoshi. Prediction: Kratos will get an even higher seed this year, and still lose to an underseeded character like: Knuckles, Ryu (XD rematch), Bowser, Leon S Kennedy, Zero or Magus. --- Ngamer64: Zylo, you're making less sense every day. *obligatory pro-Zero post* Oh, and I want to see everyone in the contest this year. As long as we get some good debatable matches, I don't mind seeing Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth in the regular contest. They provide some of the best moments in the contests. Damn that, I'd have more fun with an entertaining match like Bowser/Sephiroth or Ganon/Sephiroth than I would with arguing over a debated "close" match that ends up being a dud. Plus I'd like to see Link and Cloud taking turns with how much they can own somebody. You know, I just got an idea. Ceej should give us some random Mercs style bonus matches outside of the main bracket just for kicks. the problem with including Link/Cloud is that we're probably not going
to get much in terms of good noble nine matches. last year was perfect
because we had five characters that were 'top tier'; put Link in and
you have one. I'd much rather see a debatable match that flops than an
elite getting doubled up by Link. at least there's something to talk

I'm not against Zero being a touch under-rated, but I don't see him
beating Kirby while Kratos potentially outdoes Luigi this year. Of
course, that's only potential, but I'm still firm on taking him over
Kirby and thus Zero as well. Zero is getting older and older without
much importance as we have finished crossing into the next generation
while Kratos got a game that's just as big if not bigger than the
original GoW... ...plus, unadjusted stats say Kratos already gets 48.23% on Zero. I'm not thinking that Zero is more under-rated than Kratos is going to boost. Kratos wouldn't blow Zero out, but I feel confident in a victory for him regardless. --- PETITION: a "Contest Suggestions" board.
