Well seeing how Zelda has so many more games than everything else in
the poll, a killing was expected. Give some other series as many games
as Zelda has that are actually all blockbuster games (too bad
Sonic/Mega Man) and maybe down the line it will be a challenge to
Zelda. Right now, the only other series that can claim that is Final
Fantasy. SMB was up there, but it's clearly been a step behind since SM64. And no other series is even close. It's not all pure Zelda fanboyism that causes it to be so dominant on this site. The series has been pushing out hit after hit. It's not like all this love for Zelda is a GameFAQS thing or anything.
To some extent, it's exaggerated here, but I imagine if you polled game
reviewers as to what their favorite series is, it would win comfortably. When EGM made their Top 100 list in 2001 (Not that stupid "importance" one they just did) they had three Zelda titles in the Top 10 and every other title was in the list somewhere. --- This is Classic Tammy.--It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia |

Zelda love certainly isn't limited to just GameFAQs, or even
unjustified to an extent, but the level in which it dominates over
everything else here is a bit outside of the norm. Most gamers
(including the press) outside of GameFAQs do love Zelda, but you won't
see them so unanimously favor it over everything else to the degree
that the voters do here. Zelda is a great
series, but there's a certain point where it crosses over from being
well respected and loved to just being practically worshipped
(fanboyism) -- that's where we're at now with GameFAQs, I think. --- Death by irony is always painful. |

FF/Zelda was still only 51/49 in Zelda's favor, though... what throws
the wrench in that lil' stat though is that Zelda ended up insanely
dominating the favorite series EVER poll - far more than FF7 - which
means that there's almost no distinction between those who voted for
Zelda over FF and those that praise it as the best series ever (FF's
showing there was fairly lackluster, which is testament to what had
been postulated about it all along, drawing in a much larger fanbase
but not exciting quite the same rabid devotion). ...I dunno. I just know that if Zelda loses anything here again (kinda iffy), the whining will be MASSIVE --- "TIME TO _____ THEN." - Karma Hunter, ABSENT 8 Commit it to memory. |

my opinion on Zelda is that it's a machine that can not be beaten. I feel wrong betting against it at all
out of fear that people will see the name "Zelda" and click it. like, I

LoZ is one of two series that I have heard girl gamers consistently say they love, the other being Mario Kart. I wouldn't consider that the norm. It's not like every Nintendo series can just wave its hand and dominate a poll. For whatever reason, perhaps just being paranoid of what Zelda is
capable of on this site, I think if you held that match again today, it
would be a pretty easy win for Zelda. I don't think it would
necessarily kill Final Fantasy or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised
if it jumped up to 53 - 54% based on how well, for reasons that escape
me, the Wii has done along with Twilight Princess coming out. That's

SSB definitely seems more 'fanboyish' than Halo here, but that's

Eh, I wouldn't want to see the day that Zelda beats FF handily. I don't want Zelda to be this dominant. It may be my favorite series, but that's just because it has so many games I like. I wish other older series would step up to the plate. Sonic had the potential to remain up there as far as overall series popularity goes, but not only did Sonic go AWOL during the PSX/N64 era, but the 2 adventure games were released on a doomed system. Even though they were ported and were well received for the most part by the Nintendo fanbase, Sega just dropped the ball after that. I mean, the series could still be up there if it actually released games that were GOOD and generally popular among the masses. Mega Man hasn't done a damn thing in the longest. Sure, it remains slightly popular on the handheld systems, but that's not what drives a series. And Mega Man console games have been walking dead for a while. Yeah, the X series tries to keep chugging, but it just fades in the background as average PS2 games compared to some of the popular hits like Ratchet & Clank and the Jak series. Hell, I bet Mega Man would still be near the top if say the Ratchet & Clank games were Mega Man games instead. Capcom has been screwing up royally with the Blue Bomber. Nintendo avoids this for the most part by letting other developers handle some of their star power, and it delivers. Capcom needs to give Mega Man to a good developer and let them reinvent the series.c Mario is hard to put a finger on. Nintendo just needs to release more games for him. I don't think the one game per console pattern is doing Mario any justice. It's not like SMS was a mega-hit. It was a decent platformer, but there were also tons of decent platformers on the PS2. As a stand-alone game, Jak & Daxter actually trumped SMS. Throw Mario in J&D and put it on the Cube and I bet people would have eaten it up. Anyways, if Super Mario Galaxy actually IS a great game, Nintendo needs to do it again on the Wii. Metroid would be in great shape for me if it would continue the 2d
games. honestly, if you want to talk about highest percentage of
quality games from a series, Metroid takes it with ease. I just don't
