So there's been 6 of "What's your all-time favorite __________ series?"
polls now. I'd say that's quite a trend, and I'm going to assume that
that is because the upcoming Contest is a Best Series Contest. It was
the next logical step in contests. These polls will weed out the
pretenders. The question is? What are the next 26 categories. I can come up with quite a few off of the top of my head. PC FPS (Half Life) Console FPS (Halo) RTS(Starcraft) Turn Based Strategy(Civilization) Strategy RPG(FFT) Simulation(Sim City) MMORPG(WoW) Kart Racing(Mario Kart) Other Racing(Gran Turismo) Side Scroller( SMB) 3D Platformer(Mario 64) Horror(Resident Evil) Scrolling Shooter(Ikaruga) Third Person Shooter(Syphon Filter) Stealth(Metal Gear) Point and Click Adventure(Monkey Island) Party Game(Mario Party) Action/Adventure(LoZ) I know I'm forgetting a lot. And I know you still need to break down the Sports games and Handhelds. Hopefully the first round keeps the top three entrants. That would add a nice twist. ---HMMMmmmMMMMMmmmmm............... |

Interesting stuff, but I don't think we'll be seeing another Series
Contest -- outside of the Character Battles, we haven't seen another
contest be done twice yet (much less in consecutive years). I'm hoping
this does eventually lead to a contest, but I don't think it's another

I somehow forgot the series contest was last year. Don't know how that
happened. But I don't think these polls are just for fun. There will be
some kind of contest. It just makes too much sense for it to happen.
Contests always bring in a new group of users and in invigorates the
Gamefaqs community. It's good business. Last contest started in

This is certainly not accurate, but it's worth a look...if you only
count the votes between Diablo and TES in today's poll, Diablo gets
52.15% on TES. Now, if you were to try to apply that to the Series
Contest, you could say one of two things: 1) Diablo should be at 16.99% on LoZ, which puts it directly between Dragon Quest and Grand Theft Auto. 2) If you think Street Fighter/Resident Evil had a huge anomaly in SF's favor, TES ends up at 13.15% (just under Diablo but well above Harvest Moon) and SF lands on 17.03% (again, between DQ and GTA. I don't like either of those, which can be a testament of how inaccurate this method is, but it could also show that Diablo and TES are involved with anomalies like some of us already suspected. So I got to thinking... when the next contest starts, how bout that
analysis crew? Has any decision been made on that? I know I haven't
been here during the offseason much at all, but I'm totally throwing my

If we were to assume Diablo was constant, that would make it where SF/RE should have been a 36/64 affair... ...and there's no way that would happen. Nary a bit, I don't care how big of an overlap SF/RE might have or that the picture was THAT unfair. I don't buy Diablo being as high up as TES in the stats either though...I think Diablo's under-rated by having to face THE premier RPG series on the site without even having Diablo in its picture while SF's picture over-rated it afew points against RE. I don't think I'd take Diablo > TES in another contest, but I think they're close like what today's poll implies. If you try to justify that through the stats, put SF a lil' below 22% (where SF should have gotten ~46.5% against RE) and move Diablo up afew about 2%-3% against FF. That would place Diablo, TES, and Soul Calibur pretty tight...I'd be comfortable with that. Then again though, it's the Series Contest...until we have another contest like it, I'm not terribly worried about its exact statistics. --- PETITION: a "Contest Suggestions" board. Also, I don't really know if there's interest in me being a part of the
Analysis Crew this year or not, but I'd like to go ahead and say I don not
want to be on it this year. With everything in my life right now (and
until at least late September), I don't wanna have the responsibility

My only thought right now is... no offense to anyone, but guys who shall remain nameless who fail to do an analysis on the majority of the matches should be booted from the crew. I agree, I'd rather have only 5/6 members of the Anal Crew if there's 9
but 4/5 just toss out a number and justify it with a quick sentence or
"lol Zelda." That's not Analysis. Might as well be called the Oracle
Crew then. Speaking of which, it bothers me that many on the AC don't also compete in the Oracle. You're already guessing a result, and number, and doing so ahead of time... why not just post it in Kax's topic as well? Totally agreed (though I think you said "guys" to be nice). That said,
I'd like to see a movement for even the most debated matches to be a
little shorter. Not gonna lie, for the most part last contest I skimmed
for predictions and didn't read too much of what anybody said save for
debated matches, and KH was probably the guy I read the most of. I do hope the Guest writers return though. That was a legitimately good idea, though I think if you happened to win a point then the guest should have the option to pick two matches from the next round instead of just one like everybody else. That would be a little bit of a reward to motivate Guest write-ups, plus I think EC had a lot of success last year so people like him could keep testing his luck if they proved worthy. --- PETITION: a "Contest Suggestions" board. Speaking of which, it bothers me that many on the AC don't also

I've wondered the same thing, but I try not to spam people too much about the Oracle. =) It is fun though, plus doing it gives you a record of what you were thinking about each match at the time. As far as analysis crew goes, I agree that a 5-6 person crew is better than a 9 person crew. FYI, I've sent a feedback ticket wishing for more "What's your all-time
favorite _____ series?" polls since today might suggest he's stopped
that string. I sent afew genres I'd like to see polled along with it,
too (FPS, racing, etc.). If you guys liked them, you may want to send a

Guys, help me out real quick: what would you say the top five FPS games
are? I just found a polling-feature on FaceBook where I can target
people who have "video games" as an interest. I've got GE007, Halo 2,
and Gears of War for sure, and I'm allowed two more choices...which
other two should I pick? I don't wanna have two games of the same

Doom Half-Life 1/2 shouldn't even be a contest there.. Resistance has a chance but it wouldn't matter on this site since it's so anti-Sony right now. alternatively, you could dump Doom and add PD so the Gears/Halo overlap is similar to the 007/PD overlap.. --- xyzzy *waits patiently for CJayC to announce a Game Contest* |

whatever the 5th one is (probably Half-Life 2) might have a bit of an

Awesome, a realistic FPS poll, meaning tomorrow we'll finally get to
see the Goldeneye/Halo showdown I've been talking up for years! That
is, if he's smart and makes GE/PD into a series. Which he probably

I think either Halo or Halo 2 would be stronger than the Halo series.
There's still a bit of its fanbase that didn't like where Halo 2 went
with the series, and I think alot of people just don't respect it as a
series yet despite having very popular games (you had a comment,

I was about to guess online-FPS...but then I realized at least half of
the FPS's we've seen today or yesterday have been online, not to

I have no idea. It seems CJayC has snubbed random two-game series, but

Ha...for what it's worth, it's gonna keep us guessing about Halo 2
until another Game Contest rolls around. Halo/Starcraft had enough
controversy (not to mention how much more controversy Starcraft had
afterwards) and Halo's 1-seed came from the nomination-format, Halo 2
was left off the drop-down box for the Top 100 List, Halo's 6-seed was
under-rated due to it being board-based in the Series Contest and was
1% away from being the Ultimate Loser in a contest that probably had
the largest overlaps to date, and we know that the Xbox fanbase makes
predictions/results iffy in general. Now we don't even get to see how

Kingdom Hearts was pretty close to the original Halo as it is, so if
KHII is stronger, then yeah, it could probably take Halo. It's a
