Hey hey, good to finally get to see DKC-something in a poll. Although
this SFF-stomping isn't exactly what the doctor ordered... But yeah,

Shouldn't MM's fanbase overlap with SMB more than Sonic's? I just don't buy Sonic getting SFF'd by SMB worse than any other series here, and both Mega Man and DKC have shown just as good or more reason to suffer from SMB than Sonic. Speaking of DKC...ouch. And I only read Haste's post talking about Sonic, but I don't think
this poll proves that Sonic gets SFF'd by Mario. I would figure that
the Mega Man series would get SFF'd by Super Mario Bros. before Sonic.
And seeing how Mega Man, Sonic, and Castlevania are all within the same
range, I see no reason to think that Sonic is getting SFF'd, especially

Everything has overlap with the Super Mario Brothers series.
What was the percentage of people who'd never played a Mario game? Less

Of course there's overlap, but SFF is when there's specific favor shown
in the overlapping area. I've not seen that happen yet for Mario/Sonic

As far as characters go, yeah. I still refuse to think Sonic 2 is THAT
weak though. Sure, his games aren't anywhere near as strong as Sonic
himself, but there's no way that his series scores 5th strongest in the

I'd say that's his second strongest, for what it's worth, and an old
poll would back me up on it...but either way, I think the series is
much more respected than its games, odd as it may sound. It's kind of
like the opposite of GTA, where its games are much more respected than
the series. I'll point out, for example, that Sonic 2 and DMC were
side-by-side in the Top 100 List (#38 and #40, respectively), yet the
Sonic series went on to put up 70+% against the DMC series. REALLY
rough comparison, I know, but I still think Sonic's series is more
respected than its games since we've seen twice that its

I'm gonna have a lil' bit of fun here...but let's say CV/Sonic/MM land
at ~14/16/18% (respectively) AND that carried over to their strengths
in the Series Contest, where Sonic would beat CV just as bad as MM
would beat Sonic...and for kicks, we'll say it happens because SMB/SSB
was an anomaly so we can throw SSB into this too: Mega Man's expected to beat Castlevania with 57.89%, so we'll say that MM would get 53.94% on Sonic and Sonic would get that on CV. That would put Sonic at 23.31%, right inbetween Resident Evil and Street Fighter (closer to RE). That would also land SSB at 26.88%...which is still above Metal Gear, but barely. Through this, Devil May Cry gets 13.58% (just under Diablo) and Dragon Quest falls to 12.7% (still below Diablo, now closer to Harvest Moon). I'd take Sonic > RE head-to-head and I don't like DQ being that low...but I'd take Diablo > DMC and I've always liked SSB and MG being closer. I don't know. I don't really feel like there is much difference overall
between Sonic and Metal Gear. I think it'd be closer than a match

Talking about SSB, there's room for all sorts of small boosting next
year now. Assist Trophies are making it sound like possibly ANYTHING
Nintendo-related (or even broader?) will be in the game...and that's

Yeah. Ninja Gaiden could probably be here instead of something like
Hitman. Wonder why he didn't throw that in there. I guess it keeps up

Nice to see GTA save some face after the series contest. Also might be an indication that WoW did
drag it down with its showing against SMB. Warcraft only managed about
19% one-on-one against SMB. GTA is pulling in 16% right now against the
likes of Legend of Zelda. And surely a chunk of potential GTA votes are
being taken up by MGS, DMC, GoW, etc. Given that the poll holds
somewhat steady, this could indicate that either WoW is stronger than
it showed against SMB or WoW fluked a win against GTA. Just one way of

I still say that Warcraft beating GTA is the biggest fluke this site
has seen. I agree with the person who said a while ago that "we saw
nothing prior to that match and we have seen nothing since, to indicate
that that is the way the site leans." And I think GTA is doing quite good in today's match, since I imagine it would have a more diluted and less hardcore base than some other series. that is the way the site leans." I think that was me! Anyway, yeah, mnm has a point. Let GTA/WC have a rematch...I feel pretty confident in GTA taking it if it's not on a Tuesday, and even then I wouldn't think the WoW community would rally as hard against a series they've rallied to beat before, ya know? Oh, sure, percentage-wise we got owned, not going to deny that...but
GTA still hasn't ever shown a sign that it was going to lose to WC
