Well, I'll just say that SF has some of the most memorable music in
gaming, in my opinion. I haven't played the game seriously in a long
time, but I can still run the stage music through my head right now. I
can do that with a lot of SSB music, too. Music in a fighting game
feels more important to me than other genres, really. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
ZFS | Posted 5/22/2007 2:04:33 PM | message detail |
I can't find too much to care about when it comes to music, especially
when it's just a list of composers. That's one of the last things I
tend to care about in games. As long as it's not grating, I'm good to
go. But whatever, that's just me. --- Called "Godslayer" by some, feared by most. |

I presonally find good music to be very important...it can really get
you into a game and really enhances the experience...I've been taken
back a couple times just realizing ho excellent the music in certain
games gives it the right feel...almost like a sense of
wonderment...though the fusion of the graphics and the music is
important...no happy tunes in a somber tomb or some such nonsense Best feeling in gaming besides offline multiplayer fun --- Our shields cannot withstand wavedashing of this magnitude! Annoying posters! I am the great wavedash! [no u cru] |

All the low numbers are weird to me for the PoP... I mean, have we ever
seen someone go from a 3 seed to completely out of the contest? Granted
it was a 6, but I'm assuming a 3 given a normal bracket, the only two
females who could have possibly bumped him to a 4 is Samus and Tifa,
but I think he would have made the cut. Yet at the same time, I really
don't think we'll see him back in and, if we do it's going to be in a
completely unwinnable situation, which really sucks. And now for more important things, why the hell isn't there a bracket for the character battle on the site? --- Explicit Content. V-Tokens: 847 |

I mean, have we ever seen someone go from a 3 seed to completely out of the contest? Don't remember the Curse of the Three Seed, huh? Speaking of, both Kefka and Magus were 3s in 2005 and they didn't come back. Lloyd and Ocelot were 2s. --- Mustache...and green... http://www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/Top100.pdf |
LeonhartForever | Posted 5/22/2007 2:55:20 PM | message detail |
Bah, RPGuy beat me to it. I was going to bring up Kefka and Magus. You
can blame Lloyd and Ocelot on the Nomination Rally, I suppose. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

PortugalTheMann | Posted 5/22/2007 2:59:34 PM | message detail |
Fair enough... but weren't nominations in 2002 basically decided by Ceej and a topic on the boards? I guess my question was from 03-04 and 04-05 did any 3 seeds or lower go poof from the contest. Didn't think that one through very well. --- Explicit Content. V-Tokens: 847 |

Is it just me, or is it odd for one of the biggest games to come
out in a long time have so much of its early hype be around its music? The hype is because these composers likely wouldn't be composing for SSBB unless some of their characters were in the game. Mitsuda is particularly exciting in this regard. --- "I am the Scourge of God, appointed to chastise you! You are wicked, but I am more wicked than you!" |
LeonhartForever | Posted 5/22/2007 3:02:27 PM | message detail |
Hayabusa is the only 3 seed who's dropped a good bit in seeding from one year to the next, excluding 2005 to 2006. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
PortugalTheMann | Posted 5/22/2007 3:04:45 PM | message detail |
Yeah... it's hard for me to think there's that big of a drop... I mean
from 05-06, it was basically a 3 dropping to a 5 and they were out,
nothing crazy, and at the same time I really don't see PoP getting back
in. Nothing annoys me more than his one year of good seeding going to
waste because of a damn female bracket... he could have taken down a 6
seed dammit! --- Explicit Content. V-Tokens: 847 |
LeonhartForever | Posted 5/22/2007 3:06:19 PM | message detail |
The lack of Nomination Rally support may hurt him as well. Ocelot and
Lloyd did go from high seeds to none at all. Kerrigan probably would've
gone straight out if not for the Female Bracket, too. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
PortugalTheMann | Posted 5/22/2007 3:08:30 PM | message detail |
Yeah... I don't doubt Kerrigan not seeing a return if it was normal,
but she was a 4! I really do think Ocelot and Lloyd would have made it,
just with terrible seeds. --- Explicit Content. V-Tokens: 847 |

Exact numbers, based on a topic HM made in March of '06. 1.) Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN) Japan: 1.39 million America: 3.60 million Europe: 1.06 million Total: 6.05 million 2.) Super Smash Bros. (N64) Japan: 1.97 million America: 2.93 million Europe: 0.65 million Total: 5.55 million He also said that at that point, the two Halo games combined had sold 12 million copies worldwide. I decided to swing by GameSpot to see how they feel about some recently
released and upcoming games. We've seen time and time again that
GameSpot and GameFAQs don't share tastes every time, but it's worth
checking out... ...Gears of War is today's #1 game (9.6 - GS; 9.4 - votes), with Oblivion and GoW2 right behind it (9.5;9.2 and 9.2;9.6, respectively). We've seen Gears and Oblivion hold their own in various ways last year here, and the original GoW barely missed being the runner-up for GotY in 2k5...and it looks like GoW2 is about as equally well-received as the original, too (GoW got a 9.3;9.5). HM, do you have sales-numbers on GoW2? As for the games people are pumped about most...Starcraft 2, Halo 3, and Metroid Prime 3 are #1/#2/#3 not only as upcoming games, but overall for the site. Meanwhile, SSBB is #10 only as an upcoming game...unusual, but hey, it's GameSpot. Also, there's a little poll they're running today about Starcraft 2: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/modules/poll.php?tag=poll;action "Blizzard unveils StarCraft 2! Your thoughts?" Woohoo! Jacked up and good to go! (54%) 17,598 No StarCraft MMO? Back to WoW I guess... (7%) 2,463 So, how's Diablo III coming along? (30%) 9,697 There go my hopes for that Lost Vikings reunion. Kairi- 20% Hype from Kingdom Hearts 2 has died down, but Axel was able
to make it in with only 32 males, so I think she has a better shot than
some. Princess Peach- 40% People have been trying to get her in a contest for a while and she did decent in the one she was in, so she has a pretty good shot at returning. Aeris Gainsborough- 15% Failed to impress in her first contest in three years Chun-Li- 60% Sure. Why not? Lara Croft- 5% Nothing much behind her anymore. Tidus- 98% Has made every contest so far and I don't expect him to miss one now. Gordon Freeman (Will people care now that the curse is broken?)- 85% He finally won a match so the novelty is gone, but he's still a board favorite. The Prince of Persia- 25% Had the misfortune of appearing in a powered up male bracket for his debut, and he didn't make a splash so probably not. Zero- 99% Captain Falcon- 25% Same as PoP Leon Kennedy- 90% His games are one year older, but they're still insanely respected. Alucard- 98% Same as Tidus Sub-Zero- 70% Actually impressed in his debut. Will be interesting to see what else he can do. --- Donkey Kong- 98% Same as Tidus/Alucard. Only got screwed because of the divided bracket. Fox McCloud- 50% Depends if people still try to push for him or just give up. Knuckles the Echidna- 100% Only got snubbed because of the bracket. Pac-Man- 50% Seems to find a way to keep getting into these things. Magus- 98% Another person screwed by the bracket. Ness- 88% Bracket again, but there's still always the chance he'll be snubbed. Wario- 60% Depends when SSBB comes out. Shadow the Hedgehog- 35% No Sonic games have really done anything of note lately, so his chances are a little shaky. Kefka- 95% Another bracket screwjob Raiden- 15% I think that his time for a return has passed. Vyse- 25% See Pac-Man. Always finds a way of sneaking in. Tommy Vercetti- 51% Why not? Frog- 55% Why not as well? Liquid Snake- 20% Is considered a fraud, but there's still a chance. Vivi Orunitia- 95% Bracket screwjob Miles "Tails" Prower- 35% See Shadow Carl Johnson- 45% Failed to impress. I actually think he has less of a shot than Vercetti. Diablos- 60% Got screwed by the bracket, but to a lesser extent. Will probably still find a way to get in. Revolver Ocelot- 60% Same as Diablos --- Rufus Shinra 18 totally owned me in the July 2006 Guru Contest Better late than never. |
