I trut Rockstar will keep him interesting. Perhaps stereotypical (vodka = invincibility!!!), but I think it's gonna work out fine.

Ah, GTA's got a nice day vote going now. Won't turn out quite so strange as I expected, but still... no reason for Halo to dominate you THAT bad.

Anticipation =/= popularity

We all know how extremely hyped Halo 3 has been since the cliffhanger ending of Halo 2. Besides the GTA IV trailer, there's been very little hype surrounding GTA IV. I'm sure the anticipation level will rise once we find out about the actual game. I'm sure there will be some gameplay feature (full online co-op????!?!?!) that will surely bring the hype.

Brawl cruising with 52% of the Wii vote in the early going here. Surprised to see that Prime currently holds a slim lead on Galaxy... I'd imagine that will be reversed soon enough. Right?

Holy crap, just busted past the 57% mark, and easily.

I can't say this kind of domination surprises me, its just that I wasn't expecting to see it until the Day Vote started to kick in.

I really wish we knew the strength of the original SSB right now. We know SSBM is Super Seven-material and SSBB is easily the most anticipated game here right now...

...Goldeneye VS SSB, who ya got?

I maintain that there isn't that much difference between SSB and SSBM. Like most fighting games, I think it is the brand that carries the strength, not the individual games. Yeah, SSB will be a tad weaker, but not enough that it wouldn't be able to beat Goldeneye.

*comes back and see's Wii poll results* o_O Um... is it really not surprising that SSBB almost nearly tripled MP:C and SMG combined? Sounds like there's some weakness in the hype for the other games, or else SSBB might take over FF7 as the most popular game here (if it LIVES UP to hype, that is). I guess I could understand MP:C not doing so hot, but I was expecting way more out of Super Mario Galaxy. Sour tastes still from Super Mario Sunshine, I suppose?

SSBB has about six times as many votes as SMG in the first poll and SMG is only ahead of GT5...yet in the second poll, when SSBB is out of the picture, SMG takes third place -- only behind Halo 3 and FF13. I dunno how MP3 would have done if it was in the first poll, but we saw it hold up better than SMG when SSBB was involved in the third poll although SMG was obviously ahead of it in the second poll.

More or less...I don't think it's really a matter of how little hype the other games are getting right now -- I presume that it's more of SSBB arguably being as anticipated of a game as GameFAQs has ever seen (and, if not, then only behind LoZ:TP).

Oh, and Sunshine being compared to Melee last generation doesn't whet too many people's appetites for Galaxy either, I'll give you that. Still though, most of it is because people just expect SSBB to be THAT big.

So Ceej makes a post for the first time in a month and a half, and it's over an update to the site that I find to be extremely insignificant. If he has the time to make such additions as box shots/scans, when there was really no need or demand for them, I'd think he's had plenty of time to do anything with the quotes contest if he was going to. I'm pretty confident in saying that it's never going to take place, and the first mention of it getting swept under the rug will be when we get a notice for nominations of a new contest.

PortugalTheMann | Posted 5/15/2007 7:25:36 AM | message detail
I don't know... it doesn't make sense to me that he would wait until July just for the sake of doing so, I could understand if it was a long running tradition, but just one year isn't enough to warrant me thinking that. Hell he's even shown that the time of the Character Battle isn't locked in by starting it more or less in the fall. Not to say there's anything wrong with that, but I don't see why he'd specifically wait until July just because of one year, if he was thinking of that, I don't think he would have started this contest 5 months ago.

And I've come to realize that there's really nothing that draws me here anymore aside from the contests. I have a staggering 80 AMP, and most of them are from old topics that are still floating around.

Mmmm, I think he still plans to do it, but he just jumped the gun on nominations. Maybe he was all hopped up on contests or something and accidentally posted nominations too early. When was the last time we've had nominations open in January? That in itself was strange. I'm with Haste on this one. Give it till the summer actually starts.

CJay's never had a period anywhere NNEEAARR this long of a wait between nominations and contests, he told people two months ago that it won't be long now, he's refused to update us on the matter at all, and he's canceled projects before without warning ("How Did GameFAQs Change Your Life?")...

...throw in the probable difficulty of tallying the nominations and the dissent most of the board has towards it, and I doubt we're ever going to see it.

It's funny how Halo 3 can be the second most anticipated game on the site, not to mention its predecessors have been a 1-seed here before as well as #9 on the Top 10 List and had another game be one of the two write-ins to make the Top 100 List...yet over half the site still isn't interested in Halo 3.

Just goes to show what a unified percentage of GameFAQs can do to a contest scenario. Imagine if a bigger series was more unified than that...say, what if Kingdom Hearts or even a series among the ranks of Metal Gear was THAT unified? Solid, Liquid, Raiden, Ocelot, The Boss, Big Boss, and your choice of any two MGS villains would be three-seeds or better every contest.

That doesn't sound so bad.....

With a quote contest, CJayC would have to try hard in order to make the bracket EASY, methinks, due to the extent of the intangible part of the predictibility. That part is good. The big problem is that there isn't nearly as much attachment to quotes as there is to games or characters, so massive interesting will immediately be lost. Not to mention the discussion... there'd be hardly anything to discuss. I'd hate to think of all the idiotic topics and messages as a result, too... "This guy are sick > j00", etc.

I dunno... it feels like a waste the more I think about it, but it would be a nice novelty regardless... If I could decide things, though, I would run the quote contest at the same time as another Best. Game. Ever contest, which would mean two polls per day. The quote contest polls would be underneath the Best. Game. Ever. poll as a secondary poll, like we've seen a few times before... and pictures wouldn't even be needed.

In fact, I think that's quite a good idea.

I could totally support that idea of doing the quote-matches underneath the first round of either the next character or game contest...hell, make it a 64-bracket for the quotes then if it's gonna be like that. That may also keep bracket-makers interested longer since they now have two chances to win prizes.

I like that.
