Games are always coming out, sure, but to compare anything released between (for instance) RE4 in '05 through TP this November to a lineup like TP/Brawl/Galaxy/MGS4 in terms of Contest impact would be pretty silly. We're talking about titles whose hype alone allowed one character to regain his Contest championship, and another to very nearly win his first title outright. Normally waiting it out isn't worth it, I agree, but 2007 might be a rare exception.

yeah, I agree that the goods are coming out this year and don't mind a game contest being delayed for them. I just hope one comes period, because it's already been three years since the last one.

I also think that the site gets more pro-Nintendo by the day and by the time you have the other big Nintendo games and Wiis available in stores we might have a rather boring contest. but eh, I'd like to see it in action.

I don't know... seems to me brackets have always been announced in the afternoon or early evening on a weekday. TRE, can you confirm this?

This applies to the Spring 2005 contest, Summer 2005 contest and "Spring" 2006 Contest. The "Summer" 2006 Contest bracket was relased on a Saturday afternoon. The Spring 2004 and Summer 2004 bracket were probably also released on a weekday afternoon/night. Summer 2003 was probably a weekend.

Let's check the Archives.

According to http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/06Fall-CJaySpeaks.txt ... Last Character Battle he made that announcement of the 1 and 8 seeds at 6pm on August 18th, a Friday. Then we didn't hear anything more for over a week, until the whole bracket came up at 2pm on Saturday the 26th. So I was wrong!

For the BSE, http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/06Spring/06Spr-CJaySpeaks.txt ... Bracket came up at 5:30pm on June 8th, a Thursday.

And looks like the Summer Contest in '05 came up on June 28th just after 9pm, that was a Tuesday.

So I guess there's a precedent there at least somewhat, but still, I've generally gotten the feeling that CJay considers creating a Contest work, and he doesn't like to work on the weekends.

CJay's post announcing a quote contest has NOTHING to do with having an actual contest. If you remember the post he announced it in, the topic title was "Do a Barrel Roll!". But this cry was not to get us riled up about a contest, it was to tell Nintendo to release Star Fox 64 on the Virtual Console. Therefore, The bracket will not be put up until Nintendo release Star Fox 64 on the Virtual Console. Start sending your e-mails to Nintendo now!

Sonic is quickly turning into the Atlanta Braves of GameFAQs contests. Year after year Sonic is in one of the highlight matches of a contest, but he always seems to be on the losing side of them.

And as a final fun fact, Sonic is the only Noble Nine member never to make the Final Four.

so is FFXII a strong FF title or is it gonna fade in popularity and be on par with say FFIX?
i liked it but with FFXIII coming so soon compared to the delay between X and XII i think i migh affect FFXII character's contest performance.

Still not completely convinced FFX is stronger than FF8 here, but considering we've had multiple FFX characters in now while FF8 has only given us Squall (and he wasn't exactly impressive in his pre-KH appearance), I'm definitely behind the sentiment now.

Remember, FFX sold better (I'm pretty sure), has less hate then FFVIII, and is the FF of the PS2 generation

FFVIII got stuck behind VII, which gave FFVIII unfair hate cause it wasn't FFVII, while FFX gets to be the first game on the PS2 and follows up the relatively weak FFIX...

Plus FFX easily has the stronger cast...and a sequel

WTF? All FFX had was Auron. Aside from him, its cast was weaker in every way, particularly in comparison with characters like Seifer and Laguna.
