Bah, I missed the last topic's talking about my massive upset pick that
FINALLY paid off, Sub-Zero > Master Chief. And yeah, I definitely
want Subby to return, but I don't like his chances. Bah, I've got more

Just to recap, who do you guys think are the new characters (Balthier,
Midna, etc.) who have the best chance of making next Summer's contest,
and what seed do you think they can manage? I can see Balthier and Midna getting decent seeds at least. Dunno about who else. --- ENTER THE KAIBA CAVE! The sonic demo is awesome. Its a total reminder that bad things can always get worse. ~red13n |

I predict Balthier will have the highest seed of any newcomer this
year, followed by two of the NRT winners (I'm predicting Mewtwo and
Raiden). Midna should make it, but probably not TOO high of a seed -- a
3-seed would shock me, and there's no way she gets a 2-seed. We may see
another FF12 character or two, a Gears of War character, and hopefully
some fun obscure characters...maybe a super long-shot at Epona? Ha. I'll say this though -- if Seifer doesn't make the tourney this year, I'll go on record saying we will never see another FF8 character in the contests. There would be no excuse for it. --- The Office > you. |

I'm of the (probably unpopular) opinion that we haven't seen another
FF8 character for a reason. there's just nobody else that will be even
remotely close to Squall. I think Seifer and Rinoa would be a little
bit above the fodder line (Frog-ish?) and everyone else would be on

Seifer should easily be the strongest after Squall as he doesn't draw
nearly as much hate as the rest of the cast besides Laguna and he
actually does something in KH2 even if it's just being an ass. --- Demyx is better than Axel. Just like Rufus Shinra is better than me for winning the Guru Contest. |

But Seifer didn't even play that big of a role in FF8. At least as far
as screentimes go. Besides his role in the beginning, he's little more
than a recurring boss fight. I think people make more out of him because
there aren't really any popular FF8 characters besides Squall. It's
almost as if people are reaching for someone else to represent FF8.
Last year, it was Laguna that had the large bandwagon as being a well
liked FF8 character that would easily be above the fodder-line and
capable of giving Frog and other midcarders a match. I still
think that's farfetched. Seifer at least has SOMETHING going for him

I think simply starring in a popular game will help her. remember how
we thought Marle would be trash, but she ended up doing kinda

I wouldn't take Seifer over Frog, and I'm of the assumption that Seifer
would smash most other FF8 characters. I think Seifer was a close 3rd
in the FF8-poll, and then he has KH2 on his side too...but I just don't
think those would amount to a whole lot of general contest strength for

Call me crazy, but I see Quistis being stronger than Rinoa as far as
FF8 females go. Rinoa has a lot of hate, and Quistis...doesn't have as
much. I'm not saying the difference would be very significant, but if

It doesn't surprise me all that much. Rinoa or Quistis not making the
female bracket last year is a little wacky, but FF8's characters are

The reason I mention Zell is that he got a pretty damn decent second
place in that FFVIII character poll way back when... sure, nothing to
really take *too* seriously, but that's hanging over my mind when
compared to Rinoa who is basically riding on her "status" in how I

Basch/Vaan is tough for me. Vaan's got the lol main character thing

I liked playing as Laguna a bit more than Squall in FF8. He's my fav
character after Squall in FF8. If Laguna were in a contest he might do
