Xenogears would be another FF6 in terms of characters. Yeah, I used to believe that until I actually, y'know, played the game. Fei may not be a Crono relative to the popularity of his game, but he'd be better than Terra. And really... KoaC and Manny??? --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |
luke | Posted 2/26/2007 5:43:48 PM | message detail |
FF6 would still rock FF5 in a game contest. FF5 is
definitely weaker than FF6 strength-wise and FF6 has pitiful strength.
so how do you think a non-playable character from a game weaker than
FF6 would do? I'm not sure how you can say anything about Xenogears, though - it beat GSC down and got SFFed by FF7. I don't think Fei would be all that strong but anybody claiming they know exactly how strong he'd be is guessing. --- xyzzy |

Of course I'm guessing at how strong Fei could be. ...but I'm *not* guessing when I say he'd never come close to losing to THE KING OF ALL COSMOS for cryin' out loud. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

I would bet everything Citan is the strongest character from Xenogears, not Fei. --- Demyx is better than Axel. Just like Rufus Shinra is better than me for winning the Guru Contest. |

You underestimate the awesomeness of Gilgamesh !! --- Rufus Shinra won the Guru Contest. I didn't. Rufus > Kleenex. Now playing: Final Fantasy V Advance, Rogue Galaxy |
luke | Posted 2/26/2007 5:45:48 PM | message detail |
y'know, if you didn't know past history you'd think Terra would whip KOS-MOS's ass just based on popularity of their games. Xenogears is probably more popular/liked than Xenosaga, only it's getting a bit dated at this point. while it's far from a sure thing, I could see Fei taking Terra. --- xyzzy |

Fei/Citan would be pretty tough for me, actually. I see them both at
around the same strength. But anyone else from the game (with the
slight possible exception of Grahf) is well below fodder. --- Rufus Shinra won the Guru Contest. I didn't. Rufus > Kleenex. Now playing: Final Fantasy V Advance, Rogue Galaxy |
luke | Posted 2/26/2007 5:47:46 PM | message detail |
I'd see Citan/Fei as being like Kratos/Lloyd - both would do all right,
but Citan would be a little stronger just because Fei has a small
anti-fanbase. most Xenogears fans would vote for both though, and the
difference would only be really apparent in a head-to-head matchup. --- xyzzy |

Can somebody link me to the feedback-section here? The link that used
to work doesn't anymore, and I dunno how to find it now. =/ I'm going to ask CJay for some more favorites-polls, preferably polls for games/series we haven't seen before. It would help us out on some debates like these, plus it would help us out with nominations for upcoming contests. It'd be pretty cool if we got to see a DK-poll, SSB-poll, SC-poll, Mega Man-poll, KH-poll, CV-poll, GTA-poll...you know, just have CJay go down the line and help show us what fans of these series really think. I think we could be surprised afew times, and it would help us some in trying to select our nominations next contest. --- The Office > you. |
Karma Hunter | Posted 2/26/2007 5:49:36 PM | message detail |
You see Kratos just being a little stronger than Lloyd? I'd say it'd be closer myself, but neither should lose to KoaC, unless XG has just completely fallen off the map and gets tripled by Pokemon GSC or something. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

heh, I could see Diddy winning that just like Yoshi wins the Mario one. yeah, I guess "little" was the wrong word to use about Kratos/Lloyd. I've debated Kratos/Citan in this topic before and I'd call it a tossup, meaning I'd guess at Citan being at about the fodder line. I do think Pokemon takes Xenogears in a rematch though. Pokemon is just a lot stronger than it was in 2004. it's not nearly as antivoted as it used to be. --- xyzzy |
Karma Hunter | Posted 2/26/2007 5:54:19 PM | message detail |
I take GSC in a rematch too (getting some
faith in the Pokes after all I've seen), but GSC needs to absolutely
mop the floor with it to make me write off Fei/Citan as uber-fodder.
Fodder line, a little below or so, sure... but that's not where Terra
and KoaC are. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

I can't believe Diddy Kong is even getting consideration for
nominations. not only are we overloaded with Nintendo characters, but
he's going to be weak. none of his games are especially popular on GF.
his ceiling to me would be, like, Ridley. This. This. This. This. How in the world Diddy Kong got any sort of votes in that nomination rally blows my mind. --- "It took hundreds to kill me, but I killed by the thousands." -- Luca Blight |

You can do it HaRR's way... but I think it's pretty pointless as the
returner would probably win it hands down. Either way we need more

HaRRicH | Posted 2/27/2007 4:14:03 PM | message detail |
As long as the main focus is on newcomers...I don't want to need to
nominate more than five characters, and I don't want more returners
than newcomers to be amongst the winners. Not that I'm big on
tradition, but we've started to stray pretty far from the concept's
original idea of trying to get the five strongest newcomers...ha, not
that we got five strong newcomers (hello, Kerrigan), but we've started
to substitute that with "Well, how about if they're interesting and
unpredictable for a contest?". We've then taken it from five newcomers
to four newcomers and one returner, and from the support we've seen for
Giglamesh I wonder if we're shifting more to "Well...I just like him,
shut up!", then throw in the talk about us needing to get more
returners... ...I dunno. I don't wanna go back to the fundamental stage we were once at, but I don't really want to see how the contest is right now evolve much more from where it's at now. I wouldn't like to see the returner's influence to go any further than having a shot at having two nominations, personally, which is why I like my idea of the Returner runner-up facing #4 from the Round Robin -- if the newblood is that bad and the returners are that good, let it happen instead of making it happen. Otherwise, I would rather support four new guys we've never seen in action before. --- The Office > you. |

Who were all the winners of the '05 NRT? I know there was Vincent
Valentine, Sarah Kerrigan, and Lloyd Irving, but what were the others?
I do know that Tifa Lockheart wasn't one of them (her making it was

I recall Vincent making the contest as being somewhat of a shock.. I
don't remember a rally for him and it was kind of assumed that we had
hit the FF7 character threshold. (this is before we knew of the TOC,
after all.) thinking back on it, I have to nominate Dante's fourpack from 2k5 as being the fourpack that made us look the most stupid. (second place? probably Kuja's.) we like to rail on people who messed up Vincent/Kerrigan but Dante/Terra wasn't much better and more people probably took Terra than Kerrigan. then Vincent/Dante was a tossup on the board. and that doesn't say anything about Magus. lol devil division --- xyzzy™ "It's not trolling. I was pretty pleased overall with it. I mean, who else could've been in
their spots? Akuma, sure, and Yoshimitsu might do alright, but who else
could've been good? Midna/Balthier (near-locks assuming a normal
bracket)? Cid Highwind or Red XIII really should've been there, but
since almost everyone's anti-FF7... Oh, and it's not the winners of last year's NRT were any better... --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Sub-Zero did splendidly. Captain Falcon
was a disappointment. PoP was a lil' below the line, though if you
think there was some Sonic/Luigi weirdness it makes him look better
(but creates too many questions with Yoshi/Bowser for me to endorse
it). Nightmare and Raiden didn't make it... --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

Terra > Dante and Kerrigan > Vincent though... yeah, WTF people. The worst part about it is this: out of the people that had both of them winning, most had Kerrigan > Terra (Terra > Kerrigan would've made far more sense).
