Adept of Aiur | Posted 2/27/2007 7:14:03 PM | message detail |
I actually think Link is going to plummet this year due to the poor
reception of the PS3 leading to an overload of Wii fans which resulted
in a GameFAQs backlash against all things Nintendo. In addition, the
underrated nature of Sonic Next has, on GameFAQs, caused the birth of a
hardcore extremist fanbase which will LEAD SONIC TO VICTORY SO BALTHIER CAN EAT THAT! --- "An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows." |

How does the Class of 2007 compare, in your mind? Assuming they all
make it, think Mewtwo/Diddy/Seifer could top Sub/PoP/Falcon
collectively? Probably none of the three beat Subby, probably all three beat CF...and I'd take Seifer and Mewtwo over PoP. Throw in that Nightmare and Raiden have better chances to make it this year than last year, and I think this year will be a bit more productive. Still though, it's going to be hard to match the surprising and fun Sub-Zero brought last year. --- The Office > you. |

I would take Akuma over every Rally winner from last year and this year >_>. --- Demyx is better than Axel. Just like Rufus Shinra is better than me for winning the Guru Contest. |

Sub > Mewtwo > Akuma > POP wouldn't really be surprised if Akuma was stronger than Mewtwo, but Sub is pushing it. --- xyzzy™ "It's not trolling. It's justice." - Lightning Strikes |

Still though, it's going to be hard to match the surprising and fun Sub-Zero brought last year. Hmmm, I wouldn't say that Sub-Zero was really surprising last year. Most people ought to have at least thought about Master Chief choking against Sub-Zero. A lot of people figured that Sub-Zero was stronger than Scorpion anyways, so it's not like he was automatically counted out. As for myself, I kinda figured that Xbox becoming more accepted would mean that Master Chief would do a tad better in the contests. Plus I guess I fell for the tons of people on the board saying that Mortal Kombat was washed up and nobody cared about it anymore. Sub-Zero doing so well ought to make a point against that. From what I've seen in this contest, gamers tend to hold on to their memories. I know I do. Mortal Kombat was huge back in the day, and gamers haven't forgotten that. It may not be as popular today, but people still recognized Sub-Zero and voted for him. And he's not the only case. We always wonder why Crono remained strong in these contests. It's the same kind of thing. --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Fable, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |
HaRRicH | Posted 2/27/2007 8:58:50 PM | message detail |
I thought MC/Subby would have a real close match, and I sadly took
MC...but even once you overlook that, Sub-Zero did about 5% better
against a KH2-boosted Auron with Sub's less-recognizable picture than
Scorpion did against a pre-KH2 Auron with Scorp's more-recognizable
picture. Most of us thought Sub-Zero would outdo Scorpion, but like
that? Plus, Sub/MC was close and it caused for easily the biggest first round upset our contests have ever seen, not to mention drilling much of the board. Throw in that MC is still anything but favored on this board and Mortal Kombat for once got the board's support in a match, then that it was a 2/7-match... ...I mean, come on, that's got fun and surprise written all over it. --- The Office > you. |
trannyscience | Posted 2/27/2007 9:00:28 PM | message detail |
hey now, some of us actually went with the upset there! and I think the board was rooting for MC -- look at the first five minutes compared to the rest of the night. in a match between two things board 8 doesn't care about, they just cheer for their brackets. --- xyzzy™ "It's not trolling. It's justice." - Lightning Strikes |
Janus5000 | Posted 2/27/2007 9:02:51 PM | message detail |
Sub may not have been the most recognized against Auron, but I can't
imagine it being too bad to look like The Shredder. <_< --- http://www.scorehero.com/scores.php?user=2916&diff=4 IT'S SOME KIND OF A TEXAS PSYCHOBILLY FREAKOUT THAT'S WHAT IT IS |
trannyscience | Posted 2/27/2007 9:03:42 PM | message detail |
it's also Sub-Zero. pictures aren't going to hurt him much because the name is so recognizable. --- xyzzy™ "It's not trolling. It's justice." - Lightning Strikes |
HaRRicH | Posted 2/27/2007 9:07:30 PM | message detail |
True, but the point still stands that Sub-Zero did THAT much better
against such bigger odds than Scorpion did, especially when there were
still quite afew people who were saying Sub/Scorp would be very similar
in strength (which I think included you tranny, even for taking the
upset). --- The Office > you. |
therealmnm | Posted 2/27/2007 9:11:45 PM | message detail |
Ryu/Ken. It's not like it's weird that Sub-Zero ended up doing that much better than Scorpion. Again, he was always
the fan favorite even though Scorpion had more notoriety among the
general public. But Sub-Zero was always the man. He was the one that
got the spin-off for a reason.... --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Fable, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |
RPGuy96 | Posted 2/27/2007 9:28:03 PM | message detail |
Not only did Subby do better than Scorpion, he outdid Auron's first
round opponent, the once mighty Alucard. By no small margin, either.
That surprised me more than him beating Master Chief, but then I had
Alucard > Sub-Zero for that fourpack initially, before I changed to
the more sane Auron > Sub-Zero. --- Mustache...and green... |

Yeah, we definitely shouldn't forget about Sub-Zero... It seems way too likely he'll be snubbed. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
