Wow, Sonic's losing to some game I've never heard of named
Crackdown, a collection of mini-games for a system it shares, and is
getting doubled by a GBA FF port? Sonic the Hedgehog next-gen must have
been the final nail in the coffin for expectations... Damn you Sega. I was actually surprised at how well Sonic's doing. Crackdown's this year's Dead Rising, and Wii Play comes with a Wiimote, so that's in pretty high demand. --- "I am the Scourge of God, appointed to chastise you! You are wicked, but I am more wicked than you!" |
Haste_2 | Posted 1/30/2007 6:47:47 AM | message detail |
Haste2: Vivi's success also makes me curious about how well Kuja could do. RPGuy: Depends on how much help Vivi got from being a black mage. I don't think that was a big factor, so I tend to think Kuja could do fairly well. Kefka-ish, give or take. Harrich: I think Kuja would be just a lil' weaker than Kefka...but, I totally agree with Vivi. Slowflake: I actually think Kuja could be a wee bit higher than Kefka. Not enough to beat Knuckles, but still... Haste2: I'm with Slowflake about Kuja. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Funny thing is I predicted Master Hand's strength almost perfectly and I used that to show how Kuja couldn't be that weak. If I picked Diablo > Ridley I would've been one off from a perfect. --- Proud member of Board 8. |
therealmnm | Posted 1/30/2007 6:54:24 AM | message detail |
Heh, well given Sephiroth's immense popularity and Kuja being another
main villain from a PS1 era FF, it was only natural to think Kuja would
match Kefka... <_<; --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Fable, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |

Is anyone who wants Crackdown buying it to play Crackdown? Personally it seems like they all want the Halo 3 beta. --- ENTER THE KAIBA CAVE! No, there is an elephant in the way. |
NewLib | Posted 1/30/2007 8:16:11 AM | message detail |
Apparently from the demo, Crackdown is actually a decent game. But yeah, a lot of its sales will come from people seeing Halo 3 Beta and going ga-ga. Also is it sad that my most anticipated game for the next few months is a snowboarding game? --- --NL-- Z1mZum made me look like Toadette. And made me nominate her. |

Karma Hunter | Posted 1/30/2007 4:53:01 PM | message detail |
Yeah, voters should've known who bloody Kuja was. I still say it was
"surprising" strength on the part of Master Hand though (surprising in
quotations because I saw MH > Kuja coming a mile away I MUST KEEP
LORDING THIS OVER PEOPLE), as the two characters (and Robotnik) are
well below characters that I'm sure they'd beat. Call it
Ganondorf/Robotnik funkiness, call it a fluke, but I'm of the opinion
that fourpack's not *quite* that weak. Not that Kuja's on Kefka's level of course, and not like we need to see any of them back in a contest again. =P --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

Do you think the fact that Kuja's picture was in his trance form might've hurt his recognizability, though? That was the picture Kuja fans wanted! I was pushing hard for the very pic that Ceej used. I only wish it would have had Kuja's hand in the pic when he is about to blow the world up. Hell that thong pic would have done more harm than good. The few people that would recognize him but NOT Trance Kuja would be offset by the tons of voters who'd be like WTF??? --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Fable, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |
HaRRicH | Posted 1/30/2007 8:23:34 PM | message detail |
Yeah, I believe most/all Kuja fans at the time wanted Trance Kuja, and
FF9 is still a popular game that spawns from the FF series...so that
should hardly be an issue. --- The Office > you. |

From ZFS Posted 1/30/2007 7:51:58 PM #314 I'm still rather baffled that Kuja lost to Master Hand. I used to be, but it makes enough sense. SSBM being the beast it is today wasn't really known back then, and Kuja is a villain you don't see early in FF9. That plus FF9 was the tail end of the PS1's lifespan. ~*ST*~ --- "On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everything drops to zero." it still pains me greatly that Sin vs. Robotnik was the only match to

therealmnm | Posted 1/30/2007 9:08:31 PM | message detail |
I used to be, but it makes enough sense. SSBM being the beast it is
today wasn't really known back then, and Kuja is a villain you don't
see early in FF9. That plus FF9 was the tail end of the PS1's lifespan. I don't think that was the case. I mean, that was a year after SSBM won division 128 in an "upset", although I picked it to take that division and never looked back. SSBM being popular by 2k5 wasn't a surprise at all. The shock was that so many people would actually support a ****ing hand in a GameFAQs character battle! The same GameFAQs that allows Sephiroth to be the third most popular video game character of them all! (Yes, I'm bitter that Sephiroth can be so popular while Kuja bombs) --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Fable, Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |
Big Bob | Posted 1/30/2007 9:11:35 PM | message detail |
I picked Master Hand and figured it was the obvious choice. I was more surprised with Diablo. --- "The only thing allowed to interrupt me is death itself!" - Franziska von Karma |
HaRRicH | Posted 1/30/2007 9:19:35 PM | message detail |
Picking Ridley to win the Ruin division instead of Diablo (and, yes, I
said the winner of that match would take the division) kept me from a
perfect. Still bitter I didn't even get to stay on the leaderboard for that. --- The Office > you. |

it looks like we won't be ending until mid-March at the very earliest -
2-3 weeks of predicting and a month of matches assuming a 32 item

April before it's done. --- zyxxy "Theo is well again." - FFDragon |

Well, we used to get brackets a couple hours after nominations closed... If the "Post your nominations" topic on this board is any indication, the nominations are going to be a mess. I think March 1st is the most likely date for it to start. Also, even though the contest itself will be interesting, the discussions on it... will not be so interesting. There's gonna be hardly anything to discuss. I might want to avoid this topic after the bracket is released, even. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! agreed. this is going to be completely unpredictable for the first five
minutes and then incredibly boring for the rest. what are we going to
argue about? no one's especially attached to a quote. I hope we get
some weird Kuja/MH situation where a stupid quote beats a "cool" one
and everyone starts whining about it. that's about the best we can hope
for from this contest. I suppose we can get some buildup going on between the "big quotes", but even then we're going to be guessing. --- xyzzy™ "Time to strike then!" - Jay Solano |
