Balthier, Ashe, and Midna seem like they would be the strongest of the
new characters. I can't really think of any notable characters outside
of those three. Any new SSB characters probably aren't going to be

We've seen plenty of non-exclusives in multiple polls
before...especially between Xbox and PC. And of course, only one ended

Yea cause that game was on like 6 different platforms. That gives it an advantage over just being on Microsoft platforms, at least on this site. About this whole flavor-of-the-month thing...NSMB had just come out
afew days before the GotY-so-far poll from earlier this year, and it
still barely managed, what, 10% was it? That's probably why it did so poorly. I'd say had the poll been moved back 10 days or so, NSMB would have done much better. As it was, it didn't have any time to be played/bought. As for new characters, I'd say Balthier and Vaan are probably going to be the best of the new bunch. The lead guy from Gears might make it in as well, doing slightly worse than Kratos' first appearance. Balthier and Vaan will probably be in the midcarder-upper midcarder range. Balthier has the potential to be the next Auron if FF12 is a hit in Europe. I'd like to see Knux, Frog and Kefka back in next year's contest as well. I'll be honest about my KH2-GotY prediction: LoZ:TP scared me
yesterday. Not that I think there's been 65,000+ players of GC-LoZ:TP
that visit here, but I didn't expect LoZ:TP in general to be capable of
getting that many votes yet, even if it was against such fodder. For
what it's worth though, I doubt many of those votes were for the GC

You're talking about a mainstream PS2 character vs. a mainstream Xbox character first of all. Then, Kratos game is all about him and appears to be far more character-centric than Gears of War. I haven't played the game yet, but I haven't heard anybody talk about any of the characters... Just how good the game (and multiplayer) are. And he doesn't have the distinct look that Master Chief does that allows him to be recognized as "the Halo guy", which hurts him even more for people who aren't familiar with the game yet. --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess (GC), Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |

You might have noticed that the main characters from Gears of War won best new character on Gamespot. Not Marcus, all of the characters. It'll be FFVI-syndrome all over again, only with an Xbox game instead.
