I voted for the PS3 solely for the slim hope that MGS4 MAY be out by then... --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

Heh, and I bet everyone is voting for the last option today because of SUPER SMASH BROTHERS BRAWL!!!! ...Though I personally voted for it because of MGS4 even though it's technically impossible for a Metal Gear Solid game to be overhyped. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. MGS4 will be great, whenever it's out...but man, the Wii has the PS3's
ass stomped next year if it can avoid delays. SSBB > MGS4 = SMG >
MP3 for me hype-wise next year as I anticipate all four alot...and I
don't really care for anything else the PS3 provides that the 360
can't/won't. --- Rufus Shinra: like a true Guru should, he owned me. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=32191952 |

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the only thing the PS3 has going for it for a long time... Okay, there's that Devil May Cry thing coming out, too, but nobody really cares about that!! --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

So...GotY-predictions? PSP: GTA:VCS DS: NSMB GC: LoZ:TP PS2: KH2 360: Oblivion Wii: LoZ:TP PS3: Resistance Multi: I have no idea, so I'll just say Madden does better than usual this year Overall: KH2 --- Rufus Shinra: like a true Guru should, he owned me. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=32191952 |
HaRRicH | Posted 12/31/2006 2:55:37 PM | message detail |
I should add that KH2 wins if FF12 isn't in the final poll with it. If
we follow the usual format where it's lots of games that did well then
is cut down to the top-performing three games, KH2 will get 2nd or even
3rd to LoZ:TP/Oblivion thanks to FF12, then slam it home in the final
GotY poll. However, if FF12 follows it every step of the way...give me
LoZ:TP. --- Rufus Shinra: like a true Guru should, he owned me. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=32191952 |
Mac Arrowny | Posted 12/31/2006 3:37:21 PM | message detail |
KH2 stands no chance at getting PS2 GotY, let alone overall. I could
see Okami or even Guitar Hero 2 giving it a run for its money in the
PS2 poll, and Oblivion will defeat it in the overall poll. PSP: MGS: PO. VCS flopped too hard to stand a chance. DS: NSMB GC: LoZ:TP PS2: FFXII 360: Oblivion PC: Oblivion Wii: LoZ:TP PS3: Resistance Multi: Uh...Lego Star Wars II? GRAW/TP/Oblivion, if they count? Overall: LoZ: TP, though FFXII has a great shot. --- "I am the Scourge of God, appointed to chastise you! You are wicked, but I am more wicked than you!" |

Why can't KHII win for PS2? http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2316 I'd be willing to bet KHII was more well received overall. --- Let the snow fall deep, the rain drive down, and the wind buffet my cloak. I care not for I've a road worth walking ~ Drizzt Do'Urden |
Mac Arrowny | Posted 12/31/2006 3:42:44 PM | message detail |
Uh, that poll's from right before KH2 came out. Of course the hype for it was at a greater level then than it was for FFXII. Anyway, FFXII's been a lot bigger on GameFAQs than KH2 has been. KH2 barely beat Oblivion in the GotY so far poll. --- "I am the Scourge of God, appointed to chastise you! You are wicked, but I am more wicked than you!" |
HaRRicH | Posted 12/31/2006 3:43:14 PM | message detail |
I can't see Okami or even GH2 approaching KH2, and it seemed to me that
not only was KH2 more anticipated this year but also better received
than FF12. I'm certain it's sold more, too. Furthermore, Oblivion
beating it isn't happening since KH2 beat it nicely earlier this year
in a GotY-so-far poll. --- Rufus Shinra: like a true Guru should, he owned me. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=32191952 |

I'm certain it's sold more, too With the December NPD coming out next week, I'd be willing to wager that Final Fantasy XII is already ahead of Kingdom Hearts II. --- "Bide your time, and hold out hope." |

Uhhhh, why is it automatically assumed that Oblivion is beating Gears of War out? --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess (GC), Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |
Mac Arrowny | Posted 12/31/2006 7:49:56 PM | message detail |
Uhhhh, why is it automatically assumed that Oblivion is beating Gears of War out? Because it was released on two systems, sold more (depending on how well GeoW did in December), was an RPG, did much better on the FAQs lists, and nearly beat KH2 on the GotY poll. Furthermore, Oblivion beating it isn't happening since KH2 beat it nicely earlier this year in a GotY-so-far poll. Ever heard of SFF? --- "I am the Scourge of God, appointed to chastise you! While we're on the topic of FFXII, is it supposed to be really crappy
after the initial tutorial? I'm only up to the part where I have to go
talk to the nomads but I'm already bored. --- "An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows." |

Ashe is fine in more ways than one, my friend, and you'll be pleased to know that she's voiced by Ms. Raine Sage herself! And it takes FFXII a while to get going, especially with the battle system. You actually have to get a variety of Gambits (and get into a tough battle) before the fights get interesting. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Ashe is fine in more ways than one, my friend, and you'll be pleased to know that she's voiced by Ms. Raine Sage herself! ...Aw, are you serious? Does she at least sound different from Raine? Because I don't want images of Raine popping into my head when I listen to Ashe speak !! --- "Bide your time, and hold out hope." |

That was pretty bad. And that voice acting doesn't sound too similar, although you can tell it's her. Perhaps it's because there is some emotion there! --- "Bide your time, and hold out hope." |
LeonhartForever | Posted 12/31/2006 11:02:52 PM | message detail |
Plus, Ashe's inherent cuteness overshadows such things! Still, Balthier is the best character in the game, easily. Ashe is second for me. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

Out of the main party, Basch is the only other worthwhile one. Vaan is
bleh, and Fran reminds me a lot of Freya: Somebody who could've been
better if Square had bothered to put more time into her. As far as Penelo is concerned, somebody summed her up as such and I learned it was no exaggeration: She's the most worthless FF character since Umaro. --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

I really didn't think anyone could be THAT worthless. I thought for sure it was an exaggeration! --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |

At least with Umaro you can leave him behind on the ship or not get him altogether --- Let the snow fall deep, the rain drive down, and the wind buffet my cloak. I care not for I've a road worth walking ~ Drizzt Do'Urden |
LeonhartForever | Posted 12/31/2006 11:21:22 PM | message detail |
That's very true, but at least Penelo is cute. However, I have learned
that she DOES serve a purpose in cutscenes: To be an annoying
distraction with Vaan away from the main conversation! I never imagined I would learn all there is to know about Penelo from reading the instruction booklet: "Vaan's friend." --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
ZFS | Posted 12/31/2006 11:21:40 PM | message detail |
Comparable to Umaro? Ouch. That's bad. --- "Bide your time, and hold out hope." |
LeonhartForever | Posted 12/31/2006 11:22:48 PM | message detail |
And if you consider Vaan to be the main lead, I would probably consider
him the worst of the bunch from FFIV and on (not counting FFTA, of
course). --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
ZFS | Posted 12/31/2006 11:25:17 PM | message detail |
Vaan? The lead? The hero? Not while Balthier is around! --- "Bide your time, and hold out hope." |
LeonhartForever | Posted 12/31/2006 11:27:22 PM | message detail |
Well, in towns and such, Vaan is the one you control, and certain
things in the game try to make it seem like he's the lead. However,
he's not a compelling character at all, has very little development,
and he suffers from the Tidus Syndrome (constantly asking questions
because he doesn't understand anything about the world around him). But
at least Tidus had an excuse: He actually wasn't from Spira! --- "I'm only here to see how the story plays out. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same." - Balthier |
Shivan Reincarnated | Posted 12/31/2006 11:33:05 PM | message detail |
If I had to pick a lead, I'd actually choose Ashe. But FFXII seems to be a bit ensemble like FFVI. --- Let the snow fall deep, the rain drive down, and the wind buffet my cloak. I care not for I've a road worth walking ~ Drizzt Do'Urden |

Balthier > Ashe >= Vann, but I really can't see any of them being stronger than Vivi. --- Let the snow fall deep, the rain drive down, and the wind buffet my cloak. I care not for I've a road worth walking ~ Drizzt Do'Urden |

Final Fantasy III for the upset! In addition to people automatically counting out Gears of War and thinking that Oblivion is automatically Xbox 360 GotY, I was going to point out that NSMB really wasn't that great and FFIII could give it a run for its money if enough people bought and liked it. Hell, Castlevania PoR SHOULD be the DS GotY hands down if more people actually played the handheld Castlevanias... But yeah, NSMB definitely was beatable as being GotY. FFIII doing this well isn't surprising at all. --- Currently playing: Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess (GC), Castlevania PoR, Yoshi's Island DS |

And GoW > Oblivion if only because of recency. Same reason why FF3 is doing so good. If FF3 and NSMB switched release dates, NSMB would be dominating right now. TuRtLe ~~~ lol Rufus Shinra His superior explosion surviving powers let him pwn me in the Guru |
