So, in essence, Jay went and did the exact opposite of what he was
supposed to. Instead of being a Neo-Tanner, he is actually the ultimate
Tanner crusher! Don't you see? This was Jay's plan all along! Bored much? I can't believe how seriously some of you guys are taking the Link/Solano match... :-P Let's look at the first set: Ryu and Kratos look too strong...Ryu barely outdid Alucard on Kratos (yes, Kratos boosted, but that much?), yet Alucard was destroyed by Auron and was beaten by Sora the previous year...in fact, Kratos is expected to beat Alucard with 55.35% using raw x-stats. I could see Kratos winning there, but... not by that much. You can make a case for Freeman-linearity, but Gordon & Phoenix being lower doesn't hurt. I'll take up for Kratos again. Why exactly can't he be that strong? God of War is still doing well in sales (I just bought my copy this month!). The game had only been out 3-4 months before SC2k5. It's certainly possible that Kratos 2k5 simply hadn't reached the full potential of his popularity since his game was still selling. Again, I compare him to Dante 2k2. I think God of War was much more popular as a game than Devil May Cry was after a year. Devil May Cry was overshadowed that year by blockbuster hits in MGS2, FFX, and GTA3. God of War got to be in the spotlight in a relatively slow year while having the benefit of a bigger PS2 fanbase, as well as the added GameFAQs traffic as compared to 2k2. Again, if Dante can still bust out as a solid midcarder while being a brand new character, I see no reason why it couldn't be possible for Kratos to be slightly stronger than that after his first year... Okay. It's still pretty much a board thing and you know it though. Fool
yourself into taking it as totally legit if you want! :-P I'm just
stated that I myself don't care much either way. It could have been a
poll with Knuckles beating Sephiroth 99%-1% and I still wouldn't care

Instead of saying either of the matches were vastly off-target, why not
just surmise that Snake's boost was largely a Nintendo boost, so his
boost was at least partially (though not totally, given that he still performed better on Samus than 2K4 or 2K5 data would have surmised) eradicated against Nintendo characters? That explains why Snake overperformed on non-Nintendo characters (the boost against non-Nintendo characters was legitimate), while his numbers against Yoshi were only slightly more impressive than his numbers against Bowser, and his numbers against Samus weren't all that better than 2K5 data would imply; against the Nintendo characters the boost was minimalized. I still think a small amount of Snake's boost, BTW, is coming from MGS4 hype; I don't think all 100% of the boost is from the 2 minute trailer alone. But the 2 minute trailer may have provided a majority of the boost, and those Nintendo fans may just feel inclined to drop their votes for Snake when Snake actually faces Nintendo characters. Meaning our "new Snake" will now perform very well on Sonic, Crono and Mega Man, but still lose with "old Snake" percentages against the likes of Mario and Samus. He'll still beat powerful upper-rank supporting Nintendo characters, of course (the likes of Bowser and Yoshi) because he did that with his own independent fanbase even before the SSBB trailer. As for Snake/Squall, I don't think that match was entirely off-kilter. I actually think Squall might legitimately be that strong. he's grown in strength every year, largely paralleling Sora's growth, though Squall also has the benefit of an FF8 fanbase. But a lot of Squall's new popularity is stemming from KH and KH2 love; Squall has the biggest role of all the Square cameos in both games. |

| Meanwhile, we know Kirby's games-fanbase isn't big
either, and I think this Meta-Knight love has been blown out of
proportion big time. Add in what struck me as more hype for Pit in SSBB
than Meta-Knight and I think more people played KI after their
announcements than whatever Kirby game(s) Meta-Knight was in, and I'll
stick with that pick. It's be close though, but I never thought Meta-Knight would amount to much before we heard of this SSBB trailer. Kirby had name-sake of his series, and he was big in SSB/M...while Meta-Knight isn't much more than what a Robot Master is to the Mega Man series, as I remember it. I don't even think I knew his name until Board 8 made a big deal out of him awhile back. I would probably take King DeDeDe over Pit, but not Meta-Knight. --- Damn, most of my dates involve mocking and/or beating up people like you and your bride-to-be, so I really have no advice --Horatio |

Yeah, I'm really not understanding why people are putting MK ahead of
anyone but Pit. After seeing what Kirby managed in the Series contest,
I'm really not confident in any non-SSB Kirby characters doing well at

...But it's Pit. This is the equivalent of the Ice Climbers or Game
& Watch. This is going to be a one time old school appearance. Kid
Icarus wasn't ever that popular, not to mention just how old the game
is. I don't care how much Kirby's series bombed in the contest. It'd
